It analyses the texts of canine epitaphs and compares them not only to similar Latin inscriptions and literary evidence, but also to Greek funerary inscriptions set up for humans, as the structure of the canine epitaphs is often similar to the structure of human ones. Topics such as dog names and 'professions' are also touched upon in the paper, and it is concluded that dog owners seem to have named their dogs in a similar manner to how they have named their slaves and have adopted a pattern of expressing their grief over the loss of a pet from the epitaphs commemorating the deaths of dependent members of their households.

The article suggests that some kind of markers might have been used to show the sequence of events in extensive motivation clauses of biographical honorific decrees, especially from the Hellenistic period. In order to find such markers, the author analysed the better preserved honorary decrees from Olbia, Istros, Odessos and Apollonia Pontica. An attempt is made to determine how such markers were used by the authors of state resolutions.

In honorary decrees various expressions (formulae) were scrupulously chosen so that reasons for honours, i.e. commitments, solemnly assumed and/or met by a benefactor, were presented to the public. Honorary decrees from Olbia, Istros, Odessos, and Apollonia were classified into several basic groups in order to analyse types of promises made by citizens and foreigners.
