Food systems
The Sustainable Development Goal of Zero Hunger is of fundamental importance to IIRR’s work. Our Food Systems pillar aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. The programs included in this theme are Food Security and Nutrition and Agriculture, which address malnutrition and sustainable production of food chains.
Environment
The effects of climate change are harming rural areas around the world, proving that the future of rural agriculture depends on finding innovative, climate-smart, and sustainable practices for farming and development. Our Environment programs aim to build resilience and adaptive capacity to climate related hazards and natural disasters in all countries. The programs designated within this theme are Climate Change Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction.
Education
In the face of global crises such as economic hardship and the coronavirus pandemic, the education of children, particularly girls, is often deprioritized. Our Education programs aim to provide access to and improve the quality of education. The programs designated in this thematic area are Access to enable inclusive and equitable learning and Skill for Success to employ quality skilling, reskilling, and upskilling opportunities for the vulnerable, using proven learning methods.
Economic empowerment
Ensuring that rural people have access to financial services and are included in a growing economy is a vital component for improving rural life around the world. The Economic Empowerment thematic area aims to create opportunities that improve inclusive and sustainable economic growth. The specific programs in this theme are Financial Inclusion, Social Protection, Enterprise Development, and Securing Assets.
Health
The Covid-19 pandemic has highlighted the continued importance of health, nutrition, and healthcare resources in our rural communities. Our Health theme aims to provide access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene and to advocate for health rights. The program adoptions of good hygiene practices WASH and Community Health aim to instill standard practices and awareness and encourage education on sexual reproductive health and rights.
