Tourism also works as medium of social cultural exchange. Not much travel and tourism literature exists in this area of destination branding in tourism. The availability of literature regarding destination branding is very low and all the literature related to this topic has surfaced recently. The first conference in such topic took place in 1996 and the first journal related to such article got published in late 1990s and the first book got published in 2002. This destination branding technique is important as it attract new visitors toward the country. The destination branding strategy also works effectively when the destination is facing a down trend in tourist arrival either because of natural constraints or because of political constraints. Here for the purpose of the study we have analysed the data of foreign tourist arrival in Malaysia, Japan and India. And then try to formulate a conceptual model for destination branding which can be applied on any type of destination whether the destination belongs to rural or urban, hilly or sea, desert or plain area. The model that we developed is Destination Brand Positioning and can fit in any type of destination.

It can be defined as the organization and operation of holidays especially, commercially. Tourism is now-a-days considered as an important industry which has vast scope for the generation of income and employment. It is one of the world's fastest growing industries, a major source of foreign exchange earner of a nation and a measure for resolving inter state and inter community conflict. Although the whole north eastern region has tremendous tourism potential, the tourism industry in the area is still miles to go to exploit the proper potentialities. This is mainly due to curse of nature and lack of proper attention of the central government. The state as well as the entire north east region of India has been subjected to century long neglect. Even after 64 years of the country's independence, same kind of central apathy is being continued to the region. The state of Assam is best known for her unique natural beauty with flora and fauna, historical monuments, pilgrim centre, tea gardens and its colorful cultural festivals. All these can make Assam as one of the best destination of the tourists. The tourism in Assam is mainly based on Wildlife, Tea tourism, Historical Monuments Ethnic cultural heritages etc. Therefore, natural parks and sanctuaries, rivers, lakes, warm water springs, forests, wild life, are the principal components of tourist attraction in the state. The whole tourism potentialities of the state can be grouped together under the categories-Wildlife, Nature Tourism, Tea tourism, Eco Tourism, Cultural Tourism, and Adventure Tourism etc. The present paper has been an attempt to highlight the main prospects and problems of tourism in Assam. The development of tourism in the state during the globalization period has also been analysised on the basis of some secondary data.

During 2012 the foreign tourist data was just 2.38 million but it augmented three fold in a decade to 6.97 million in 2013 with an average annual growth of 28.78%. At present India’s global ranking in terms of total tourist arrival is 42 and in terms of FEE it got 16th position which means that India is one of the most favoured nations of the world in top 50 tourist countries. India can increase its standing in the list of most favoured nation if it will take care of negative incidents. The Uttarakhand tourism industry also shows the almost same trend as in case of Indian tourism but instead of continuous increase in the total number of tourist arrival it shows decrease in number (2008-2013) because in this hilly state there were so many negative incidents happened like continuous landslides and cloud outburst in rainy season and as it is a tourist dominant state of all the seasons. The total tourist arrival in Uttarakhand is doubled in a decade but if we exclude 2013 then we can observe that it tripled in 2012 but due to Himalayan tsunami the tourism trend in Uttarakhand is badly affected by a negative growth rate of - 28.07%.

A comprehensive review of the relevant literature highlighted 15 key variables. The contextual interactions between these barrier variables were identified based on the opinions of experts with COVID-19 pandemic experience and analyzed to determine their driving and dependence powers using interpretive structural modeling. The findings indicate that the lack of guidelines and procedures for coordinated actions, differences in organizational culture (working habits) and funding constraints are the most critical barriers to effective multi-stakeholder collaboration. Managers of collaborative programmes, policymakers and researchers should carefully focus on these hindrances because any improvement in them can significantly affect the overall system.
