The youth of today, will be the leaders of tomorrow, it is important to instill in them the ideal... more The youth of today, will be the leaders of tomorrow, it is important to instill in them the ideals of democracy and participation, in this regard, new media has the potential to play a significant role. Thus, the aim of this research was to find out the contribution of new media in enhancing political efficacy amongst the youth as well as looking at the role played by socio-economic background as a predictor of political efficacy. Political efficacy was measured in term of political knowledge as well as discussion and participation in the political processes. The study was quantitative in nature, involving a survey from the urban university level students of the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The methodology that was employed was non-probability convenient sampling technique while the sample size was 308. Results indicated that new media was being used extensively, further, although educated youth who used new media more had greater political knowledge yet they participated less often in the political processes. However, the influence of socio-economic factors was undermined as results indicated that it was not playing a very significant role.

The primary objective of this study is to find out whether excessive use of SNS creates isolation amongst the youth from their strong relationships (family, friends, and colleagues) by enhancing their interaction with strangers. A survey was conducted with a sample of 306 Pakistani youth. The findings revealthat there is a strong correlation between the time spent on SNS and isolation. The heavier users of SNS tend to be more isolated. SNS was used more for interaction with strong ties rather than weak ties.
