The method used to analyze the data is a descriptive quantitative. The sample of this research is taken from five chapters of the novel Hunger Games: Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. The result shows that the translation of passive sentences comes into several types of meanings: lexical meaning 37%, grammatical meaning 2%, textual meaning 5%, and contextual meaning 46%. The translation of passive sentences also falls into two types of equivalences: formal equivalence 35% and dynamic equivalence 60%. However, 5% belongs to no equivalent translation. In conclusion, the English passive sentences are mostly translated contextually so that the type of equivalence mostly appeared is dynamic equivalence. Hence, inventive ability, creativity, and experience are required to grasp the exact meaning of source text.

Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dari 3 kabupaten yang berbeda. Sampel sekolah ditetapkan berdasarkan purposive.

These two elements have implications for effective reading speed, which is needed in implementing the school literacy program. Identifying the vocabulary and sentence patterns of mentally retarded children is important to show the causes and overcome the low effective reading speed problems. Based on the data and discussion, the vocabulary is dominated by concrete nounsmonomorphemics, and the dominant sentence pattern is a monoclauseactive. Meanwhile, the limitations of abstract thinking trigger the dominance of vocabulary characteristics and sentence patterns. Hence they fail to apply grammatical aspects in forming polymorphemic words and sentences with multiclauses. Text interventions are needed following their Indonesian language performance and repertoire to support their involvement in the school literacy program.

The relationship between humor style and linguistic features is expected to explain the specificity of the humor discourse structure of Covid-19 in Balinese language. The data of this qualitative study were obtained through note-taking and sorting out some short films which were displayed on YouTube from April to May 2020. Furthermore, there were 13 discourses used as data source, and some of the humor styles include affiliative, self-enhancing, aggressive and self-defeating. The humor functions as a foundation for information on topics arranged deductively and inductively. The variations in Balinese language used are variety of kepara (general) and kasar (low). Also, the dominating linguistic phenomenon includes code mixing and switching, as well as semantic inaccuracy regarding word similarity. This study can establish public-communication model in a friendly atmosphere to eliminate the impact of socio-psychological gap.

Language is the medium that has the function to make understanding communication probable. Langua... more Language is the medium that has the function to make understanding communication probable. Language makes it possible to go beyond the domain of what can be perceived and, with the help of symbolic generalizations in the form of signs, to communicate on something that is not present or is only possible. A →communication-i.e., the understanding of the difference between information and utterance-does not necessarily have to take the form of language. It can also occur on the basis of perceptions: ego perceives alter's behavior (moving quickly and busily) and interprets it as an utterance intended to communicate a certain piece of information (alter does not want to stay and talk). Perception as such is not communication: we perceive sounds, images and stimuli without linking them to communication, processing them instead as information. To stay with the example above: through perception, we can conclude that alter is simply walking quickly. This perception becomes communication only if the distinction between a further piece of information and its utterance comes into play-only in the case that a communication is attributed to someone who utters it: alter communicates that she is currently not available. At the level of perception, we can never be sure if it is really a question of communication, or whether it is simply behavior with a different purpose (alter was only moving quickly because she was running late): the distinction between information and utterance is never sharp and unequivocal. The situation changes when the utterance uses language: in this case, specific sounds are produced that are articulated in such an improbable and recognizable way that it is very difficult to deny the communicative intention of the utterance. Linguistic sounds are not produced by accident. Spoken language has a specific form [→Identity/Difference]: the distinction between sound and meaning. The sound is not the meaning, but determines

A qualitative approach was used on the subjects determined through purposive sampling. Data were collected by recording student performance portfolios, interviewing teachers, and observing video recordings. The data were analyzed descriptively and explanatively. The results showed that the Indonesian language for deaf children is limited, as seen through four ways. First, the vocabulary of deaf children is dominated by general words (hypernyms) and concrete references. Second, they do not use figures of speech or idioms, compound words, and terms. Third, their ability to form derivative words is still low. Fourth, they generally produce core and single sentences, and only a small part uses compound sentences. The main and single sentences have an inversion pattern, where the verb precedes the subject. Moreover, they fail to use linking between...

Over the last two decades, investigation on metaphor has relied on some perspectives, such as lexical-constructional, critical, conceptual, axiological, cognitive theory or underlined aspects, as well as semantic and cultural pragmatic as the least of all. This qualitative study focused on how semantic components and cultural pragmatic were used to study the meaning and function of Balinese women metaphor. The purposive sampling method was to collect data from various sources and triangulated it into key informants. The results showed two classifications of Balinese women's metaphors, namely physical perspective as a concrete metaphor that depicts their body parts and personality perspective as an abstract, which emphasizes their ideal role. The pragmatic cultural interpretation involved the cognitive process of declarative analogy that referred to the similarity of values. Meanwhile, the personality perspective metaphor produced...
