SRO films with different Si content were synthesized via LPCVD (low pressure chemical vapor deposition) on sapphire substrates. Photoluminescence (PL), UV/Vis and Raman spectroscopy were used to characterize the samples. An intense emission in blue region was found. An interesting fact is that the optical band gap correlates linearly with the reactants ratio, which allows the tuning of the band gap. The influence of parameters such as substrate, Si content, annealing temperature and annealing time on the optical properties are discussed and the possible mechanisms of the photoluminescence are compared with our experimental data.

Research paper thumbnail of Determination of heavy metals contamination using a silicon sensor with extended responsive to the UV

Currently, new developments of light emitters and detectors open a window of opportunities to use optical properties to analyze contaminated water. In this paper, a silicon sensor developed to extend its sensitivity up to the UV range is used to determine heavy metals in water. Cadmium, Zinc, Lead, Copper and Manganese mixed in pure water at different concentrations were used as test samples. The photocurrent obtained by the light that passes through the samples was used to determine the optical transmittance of pure and contaminated water. Preliminary results show a good separability between samples, which can be used for qualitative and quantitative detection of such heavy metals in water.

The sensor's output current is converted to a digital code for subsequent processing. Post-layout results shows a suitable response in order to obtain a digital code corresponding to sensor photocurrent in the range of 200 to 1100nm. The circuit has been designed in

Research paper thumbnail of Comparison of electrical and electro-optical characteristics of light-emitting capacitors based on silicon-rich Si-oxide fabricated by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition and ion implantation

The influence of the fabrication technique and silicon content on electrical, electro-optical, and emission spectra characteristics has been studied. Results on the electrical behavior show a significant dependence on both the fabrication technique and Si content that translates in variations on electroluminescence with fabrication technique and silicon excess.
