This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different growth media on the yield of tom... more This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different growth media on the yield of tomato, cucumber and pepper, which are widely grown in the area; and on the germination and seedling quality of tomato seeds. The study was establishedwith 4 plant types x 5 growth media x 6 repetitions and 120 pots in total for 2 vegetation periods. Fantastic and Truss tomatoes, Demre long green pepper and local cucumber seedlings were used in the study. Mixture1 and Mixture2 consisted of peat and perlite and Mixture3 consisted of soil+ animal manure + perlite. The seedlings were distracted in pots containing the Mixture1, Mixture2, Mixture3, mere perlite and mere peat. As the germination media for the seeds, the mixture consisting of peat and perlite; and the mixture consisting of soil, animal manure, perlite, angular stream sand. The seeds were planted in seedling trays with 45 cells. The highest germination rate was obtained in the media with upper part perlite and lower part peat and mere peat medium with 96%. The 50% peat 50% perlite mixture was the second best with 94%. The highest fruit yield and plant height were obtained in Truss tomatoes by Mixture1, in Fantastic tomatoes by Mixture2, and in Pepper and Cucumber by Mixture 1.

Öz: Kurak iklime sahip Orta Anadolu'da rüzgâr erozyonu önemli bir sorundur. Rüzgâr erozyonuna gen... more Öz: Kurak iklime sahip Orta Anadolu'da rüzgâr erozyonu önemli bir sorundur. Rüzgâr erozyonuna genellikle yüzeyi örtüsüz topraklarda, düşük toprak nemi ve şiddetli rüzgârın eş zamanlı gerçekleştiği dönemlerde rastlanır. Uygulama alanının özellikleri ve ekolojik gereksinimleri dikkate alınmadan yapılan toplulaştırmaların erozyonu hızlandırmak gibi bazı olumsuzluklara yol açtığı da bilinmektedir. Bu çalışma, Konya'da erozyona yatkın dönemleri tahmin etmek, toplulaştırma uygulamalarında çevre ihtiyaçlarının öncelikle dikkate alınmasının önemini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada; (i) Konya-Çumra MYO deneme tarlasında toprak nemi Mart-Ekim döneminde aralıklarla gravimetrik yöntemle ölçülmüş, (ii) Konya ve Karaman'da eşik hızı aşan rüzgârlar aylara ve yönlerine göre incelenmiş, (iii) Karaman Yollarbaşı kasabası toplulaştırma ve ağaçlandırma projesi ile Konya ve Karaman'da 11 köyde uygulanan arazi toplulaştırma projesinin verileri incelenerek; tesis edilen blokların etkin bir bariyer (windbreaks) tesisine uygunluğu değerlendirilmiş, (iiii) Karaman Gödet sulamasının yüzey tahliye sistemi incelenmiştir. Konya'da etkili rüzgârlar Mart ve Nisanda Güneybatıdan (SW, SSW), Eylül ve Ekimde Kuzeybatıdan (NW, WNW) esmektedir. Rüzgâr erozyonuna karşı ağaçlandırmayı da içeren Karaman Yollarbaşı toplulaştırma projesinde blokların %88.2 si erozyondan sorumlu SW, SSW, NE ve NNE yönlü hâkim rüzgâra dik konumluyken diğer 11 projede sadece % 37.7sinin (60˗90 º) dike yakın konumda olduğu değerlendirilmiştir. Toplulaştırmalarda çevre sorunlarının öncelikli bir konu olarak dikkate alınmasının büyük önem taşıdığı, genellikle nisan ve ekimde erozyona uygun bütün koşulların eş zamanlı gerçekleştiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of conventional deficit irrigation strategy o... more The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of conventional deficit irrigation strategy on yield components and water use efficiency in the red pepper. The field study was performed in Çumra, a town in the province of Konya in the years of 2012 and 2013. The irrigation treatments were applied as follows: (i) full irrigation regime (100% of water requirement for plant, I 100) and (ii) two conventional deficit irrigations regime at the rate of 80% (I 80) and 60% (I 60) of I 100 at 5-day intervals. The irrigation water was used based on soil water content measurement through the gravimetric method where evaporation was measured by a class A pan cup simultaneously. The maximum marketable yields were obtained in the treatment of I 100 with 22.0 and 24.0 t ha −1 for the years of 2012 and 2013, respectively. The seasonal crop water requirement was calculated as 454, 591, and 726 mm for 2012 and as 498, 652, and 806 mm for 2013, respectively. The values of crop yield response factors (ky) at I 80 and I 60 were found as 1.03 and 1.37 in 2012 and 0.66 and 1.54 in 2013, respectively. The highest levels of water use efficiency (WUE) and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) were determined for the treatment of 20% deficit during the period of study. The complete irrigation levels (FC) were calculated through 0.87 times the pan A evaporation. The results reveal that full irrigation strategy is the best choice to obtain maximum yield or net return while 20% deficit irrigation is a viable solution for water poor environments.

The wetlands of Konya Closed Basin (KCB) with the diversity of its fauna and flora, is irreplaceable for nature conservation in Turkey and globally. Although KCB has the least amount of rainfall in Turkey, it has very important wetlands. In KCB, there are 16 important bird areas and 6 major plant sites. Moreover, KCB has breeding grounds for eight of out of thirteen bird species which are in danger of extinction all over the world. In recent years, ongoing drought conditions, increasing agricultural demands, and urban and industry water needs have led a significant reduction in the level of groundwater. It has the economical value as well as social and cultural characteristics. The land and water potentials have reduced due to rapid growing in urbanization and industrialization in Turkey. Water quality has begun to deteriorate as a result of environmental factors. Irrigated land also has been increasing every year. Turkey has arid and semi-arid climate characteristics and annual average precipitation is almost 643 mm. The total annual available surface and groundwater potential is 110 km3. Annual water potential per capita is 2565 m3, and available water potential is 1517 m3 in Turkey. According to the water per capita, Turkey is a waterstress country. Koşullar nedeniyle araziye doğrudan ulaşım genellikle yoktur, parçalılık nedeniyle yolda çok zaman harcanır, şekil bozukluğu makine faaliyetlerini sınırlar. Success and sustainability of agricultural activities depends on the education and social structures of farmers. Irrigation and irrigation technologies are possibly the most important inputs in agricultural activities. This study was conducted in Konya where it has the greatest agricultural land of Turkey with 25% of the total sugar beet production of Turkey. The preferences of irrigation methods by sugar beet producers, age distributions, education status, and number of person in family were researched by face to face technique. The percentages of farmers in 20-30, 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60 years old were 18.2% , 22.7%, 35.2% and 23.9%, respectively. The education levels of those farmers graduated from university, high, and primary schools were determined as 12.5%, 23.3%, and 64.2%, respectively. The number of person in most family varied from 5 to 8. The 95% of the farmers have preferred sprinkler irrigation method. The preference of drip irrigation method was 4.7% for high school graduated farmers. The 89.3% of the farmers defined that irrigation charges were expensive. The overall result of the study showed that increasing the education level in farmers contributed sensitivity of farmers for the water saving irrigation technologies

Yetişme ortamı olarak %50 torf,%50 perlitten oluşan karışım ,yalnız perlit ,yalnız torf,yarı ya-rıya üstü perlit altı torf tabakalı ortam ile 1:1:1 oranında dişli dere kumu+yanmış hayvan güb-resi + perlitten oluşan harç kullanılmıştır.Bu ortamlar kullanılarak hazırlanan 45 gözlü fide viyollerine 14 Nisanda tohumlar yerleştirilmiştir. İlk devlet yatırımının başladığı 1907’den bu güne kadar Konya Ovaları Projesi(KOP) ile 374.260 hektar alan sulamaya açılabilmiştir. Proje tamamlandığında 617.923 ha alan sulanabilecektir. Bütçeden KOP için ayrılan ödenek önemli boyutta artırılmazsa projenin tamamlanması çok uzun zaman alacaktır. Bölgede üretimden pazarlamaya kadar çözülmesi gereken önemli sorunlar mevcuttur. Bu yüzden projenin gerçekleşme hızını ve işletme karlılığını artıracak yeni yöntemler geliştirilmesi yararlı olacaktır. The effect of water stress on tomato under different emitter discharges and semi-arid climate condition. Bulg. J. Agric. Sci., 20: 1151-1157 The aim of this study was to determine the effect of water stress on tomato. The experiment was conducted in a loamy soil under semi-arid climate conditions of Konya in 2010 and 2011. Irrigation water was applied using Class A pan evaporation (Kpc = 0.60, 0.80, 1.00, and 1.20) with six days irrigation intervals and with two different emitter discharges ratios. Drip irrigation laterals were arranged for every row. Significant differences in fruit yields were found among all treatments (p<0.01). Maximum marketable fruit yield (83.8 - 73.9 t ha-1) was obtained under conditions of AS1 and BS1 applications, respectively. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different growth media on the yield of tom... more This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different growth media on the yield of tomato, cucumber and pepper, which are widely grown in the area; and on the germination and seedling quality of tomato seeds. The study was establishedwith 4 plant types x 5 growth media x 6 repetitions and 120 pots in total for 2 vegetation periods. Fantastic and Truss tomatoes, Demre long green pepper and local cucumber seedlings were used in the study. Mixture1 and Mixture2 consisted of peat and perlite and Mixture3 consisted of soil+ animal manure + perlite. The seedlings were distracted in pots containing the Mixture1, Mixture2, Mixture3, mere perlite and mere peat. As the germination media for the seeds, the mixture consisting of peat and perlite; and the mixture consisting of soil, animal manure, perlite, angular stream sand. The seeds were planted in seedling trays with 45 cells. The highest germination rate was obtained in the media with upper part perlite and lower part peat and mere peat medium with 96%. The 50% peat 50% perlite mixture was the second best with 94%. The highest fruit yield and plant height were obtained in Truss tomatoes by Mixture1, in Fantastic tomatoes by Mixture2, and in Pepper and Cucumber by Mixture 1.

Rüzgâr erozyonuna genellikle yüzeyi örtüsüz topraklarda, düşük toprak nemi ve şiddetli rüzgârın eş zamanlı gerçekleştiği dönemlerde rastlanır. Uygulama alanının özellikleri ve ekolojik gereksinimleri dikkate alınmadan yapılan toplulaştırmaların erozyonu hızlandırmak gibi bazı olumsuzluklara yol açtığı da bilinmektedir. Bu çalışma, Konya'da erozyona yatkın dönemleri tahmin etmek, toplulaştırma uygulamalarında çevre ihtiyaçlarının öncelikle dikkate alınmasının önemini ortaya koymak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada; (i) Konya-Çumra MYO deneme tarlasında toprak nemi Mart-Ekim döneminde aralıklarla gravimetrik yöntemle ölçülmüş, (ii) Konya ve Karaman'da eşik hızı aşan rüzgârlar aylara ve yönlerine göre incelenmiş, (iii) Karaman Yollarbaşı kasabası toplulaştırma ve ağaçlandırma projesi ile Konya ve Karaman'da 11 köyde uygulanan arazi toplulaştırma projesinin verileri incelenerek; tesis edilen blokların etkin bir bariyer (windbreaks) tesisine uygunluğu değerlendirilmiş, (iiii) Karaman Gödet sulamasının yüzey tahliye sistemi incelenmiştir. Konya'da etkili rüzgârlar Mart ve Nisanda Güneybatıdan (SW, SSW), Eylül ve Ekimde Kuzeybatıdan (NW, WNW) esmektedir. Rüzgâr erozyonuna karşı ağaçlandırmayı da içeren Karaman Yollarbaşı toplulaştırma projesinde blokların %88.2 si erozyondan sorumlu SW, SSW, NE ve NNE yönlü hâkim rüzgâra dik konumluyken diğer 11 projede sadece % 37.7sinin (60˗90 º) dike yakın konumda olduğu değerlendirilmiştir. Toplulaştırmalarda çevre sorunlarının öncelikli bir konu olarak dikkate alınmasının büyük önem taşıdığı, genellikle nisan ve ekimde erozyona uygun bütün koşulların eş zamanlı gerçekleştiği sonucuna varılmıştır.

The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of conventional deficit irrigation strategy o... more The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of conventional deficit irrigation strategy on yield components and water use efficiency in the red pepper. The field study was performed in Çumra, a town in the province of Konya in the years of 2012 and 2013. The irrigation treatments were applied as follows: (i) full irrigation regime (100% of water requirement for plant, I 100) and (ii) two conventional deficit irrigations regime at the rate of 80% (I 80) and 60% (I 60) of I 100 at 5-day intervals. The irrigation water was used based on soil water content measurement through the gravimetric method where evaporation was measured by a class A pan cup simultaneously. The maximum marketable yields were obtained in the treatment of I 100 with 22.0 and 24.0 t ha −1 for the years of 2012 and 2013, respectively. The seasonal crop water requirement was calculated as 454, 591, and 726 mm for 2012 and as 498, 652, and 806 mm for 2013, respectively. The values of crop yield response factors (ky) at I 80 and I 60 were found as 1.03 and 1.37 in 2012 and 0.66 and 1.54 in 2013, respectively. The highest levels of water use efficiency (WUE) and irrigation water use efficiency (IWUE) were determined for the treatment of 20% deficit during the period of study. The complete irrigation levels (FC) were calculated through 0.87 times the pan A evaporation. The results reveal that full irrigation strategy is the best choice to obtain maximum yield or net return while 20% deficit irrigation is a viable solution for water poor environments.

This study was conducted in Konya where it has the greatest agricultural land of Turkey with 25% of the total sugar beet production of Turkey. The preferences of irrigation methods by sugar beet producers, age distributions, education status, and number of person in family were researched by face to face technique. The percentages of farmers in 20-30, 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60 years old were 18.2% , 22.7%, 35.2% and 23.9%, respectively. The education levels of those farmers graduated from university, high, and primary schools were determined as 12.5%, 23.3%, and 64.2%, respectively. The number of person in most family varied from 5 to 8. The 95% of the farmers have preferred sprinkler irrigation method. The preference of drip irrigation method was 4.7% for high school graduated farmers. The 89.3% of the farmers defined that irrigation charges were expensive. The overall result of the study showed that increasing the education level in farmers contributed sensitivity of farmers for the water saving irrigation technologies

Sci., 20: 1151-1157 The aim of this study was to determine the effect of water stress on tomato. The experiment was conducted in a loamy soil under semi-arid climate conditions of Konya in 2010 and 2011. Irrigation water was applied using Class A pan evaporation (Kpc = 0.60, 0.80, 1.00, and 1.20) with six days irrigation intervals and with two different emitter discharges ratios. Drip irrigation laterals were arranged for every row. Significant differences in fruit yields were found among all treatments (p<0.01). Maximum marketable fruit yield (83.8 - 73.9 t ha-1) was obtained under conditions of AS1 and BS1 applications, respectively.
