Methods: We recruited 88 patients aged 40-70 years with OA, 21 males and 67 females, who applied to Gebze Fatih State Hospital, Department of Physical Therapy and Orthopedic Clinic between February 2022 and January 2023. We evaluated the patients' pain status with the Visual Pain Scale (VAS), their functional status with the WOMAC Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC), their kinesiophobia with the TAMPA Scale for Kinesiophobia (TKS), and their physical activity levels with the International Physical Activity Questionnaire-Short Form (IPAQ-SF). We performed all statistical analyses using SPSS 25.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, IL, ABD) and p-value < 0.05 was accepted as statistically significant. Results: The majority of the participants were females (76.1%, n=67), and the mean body mass index (BMI) was found to be 30.33. The findings revealed low positive correlations between the patients' BMI and their VAS (p=0.029) and WOMAC scores (p=0.017). While we found a moderate positive relationship between the patients' VAS and WOMAC scores (p=0.001), it was low between their TAMPA and WOMAC scores (p=0.001). Conclusion: As a result of the study, the relationship between pain, kinesiophobia, functional status and physical activity levels of individuals with knee OA was revealed; The necessity of planning applications to increase the physical activity level of these individuals and to reduce their body mass index has been underlined.

Material and Method: Thirteen healthy basketball players were recruited for this study. A fatigue protocol was designed with a load of 70% of the maximum quadriceps muscle strength and applied to the dominant lower extremity, including repetitive knee flexion and extension in a sitting position between 0°-90°. Fatigue was assessed using the Borg scale. The protocol was administered to the same participants twice at a one-week interval. Proprioception in the knee joint was assessed using the angle reconstruction test. In the evaluation of proprioception, the target angle was set as 45° of knee flexion and was measured with a digital goniometer. In the second-week measurements, the same protocol was repeated immediately following Kinesio tape application to the quadriceps femoris muscle with the facilitation technique. Results: The findings revealed no significant within-group differences between the proprioception measurements before and after fatigue (p > 0.05). It was also the case in the evaluation with Kinesio taping (p > 0.005). However, the number of movement repetitions significantly differed between the groups in the fatigue protocol (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The proprioception values of pre-and post-fatigue did not significantly differ when Kinesio taping was applied. Overall, it was concluded that Kinesio taping was an effective factor in reducing fatigue and contributed to endurance by delaying the onset of fatigue.

Methods: We recruited a total of 96 athletes for this study on a voluntary basis, including 18 basketball players, 64 volleyball players, and 14 handball players. Initially, we noted down their demographic and physical characteristics. Then, we assessed their SD using the Scapular Assistance Test (SAT), the Scapular Retraction Test (SRT), and the Lateral Scapular Slide Test (LSST). Moreover, we assessed their injury risks using the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). Results: Our findings revealed SD in 29 (30.2%) overhead athletes. Moreover, 26 of these 29 athletes showed poor FMS performance with a score below 14 points, the critical threshold in the FMS. On the other hand, 63 athletes without SD demonstrated good FMS performance with a score of 14 points or more. Accordingly, we concluded a significant relationship between SD and FMS total score among our participants (p< 0.05). Conclusion: Overall, we concluded that overhead athletes with SD may have significantly higher injury risk than their counterparts without SD.

We aimed to determine how the deficiencies in body/core muscle strength and proprioception may affect PFP development. Material and Method: Fifty patients with diffuse anterior knee pain and/or diagnosed with chondromalacia patella in the study group and 50 healthy adults in the control group were included in this prospective cross-sectional study. The patients with knee disorders except for chondromalacia patella, those who had lower extremity and spinal surgery, and/or had physical therapy in the last 3-months were excluded from the study. Active proprioceptive repositioning test and the prone-bridge test and side-bridge tests were used for primarily assessment of core muscles capacity. The knee functionality was evaluated with Kujala's knee score, and physical activity levels were evaluated with the short form of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire. Results: The mean age, weight, and median of body mass index were higher in the study group while number of active working patients were significantly higher in the control group. (p=0.041) The mean of Kujala, Prone-bridge, Side-bridge (right and left) tests were significantly higher in the control group than the study group. (p=0.012) The mean Flex-30 test was significantly higher in the study group than control group. (p=0.037) In the study group, there were very strong correlations between hyperextension of body and Kujala tests and between hyperextension of body and prone-bridge tests (p<0.05) while there was a very strong correlation between hyperextension of body and flex-30 tests in the control group. (p<0.05) Conclusion: As our body has a closed kinetic chain system, it is obvious that core musculature has great importance on the knee joint. In the current study, we demonstrated the importance of core musculature both in the sense of motor and sensory, on the functionality of knee joint in PFP.

Although the factors that increase the risk of ankle injury are included in the literature, the definitive evidence is controversial. OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to examine whether Q-angle, lateral distal tibial angle (LDTA), and hip muscle torque are associated with ankle sprain. METHODS: Thirty-six individuals who underwent an axial X-ray examination of the lower extremity following ankle sprain were included. The Q-angle and LDTA were measured on the axial knee X-rays on both sides. The isometric muscle strength was measured with a digital handheld dynamometer for the quadriceps femoris muscle, the gluteus medius muscle and the gluteus maximus muscle. Muscle torques were calculated by multiplying isometric muscle strength values with the distance to the joint center. RESULTS: Discrimination analysis shows that the gluteus maximus (0.90), gluteus medius (0.49), quadriceps femoris muscle torques (0.34), and lateral distal tibial angle (0.43) were the factors that most contributed to ankle sprain. No significant relationship was found between the Q-angle and ankle sprain (p = 0.603). A strong relationship was found between LDTA, quadriceps femoris, gluteus medius and gluteus maximus muscle torques and ankle sprain (p = 0.014, p < 0.001, p = 0.011, p = 0.002, respectively). CONCLUSIONS: In conclusion, the torques of the proximal muscle may be more related than the Q-angle to lateral ankle sprain injury. Individuals with high LDTA should also be carefully examined for the risk of ankle sprain.

Postoperative functional recovery of patients depends on the current postoperative rehabilitation program to an important extent. The purpose of our study is to compare midterm functional level of gonarthrosis patients who were included in physiotherapy rehabilitation program following TKA with people in similar ages without any surgical indication nor intervention. We have aimed also to compare functionality of people who had additional kinesiotaping (KT) treatment with people who had conservative treatment only after knee arthroplasty. Methods: Functional level and knee functionality of people in study were evaluated at the end of postoperative first month by 6-min walk test and Lysholm knee score respectively. Results: There was no statistical difference between groups with and without TKA in terms of height, weight, body mass index, Lysholm score, and 6-min walk test score (p > 0.05). In patient group with TKA, people with postoperative KT treatment had greater 6-min walk test score for postoperative first month (p = 0.005). Conclusion: TKA is considered a gold standard procedure in order to increase the quality of life and improve functionality of terminal term gonarthrosis patients. It is necessary to immediately control pain and edema of knee and apply intensive rehabilitation program aimed at muscle strengthening around hip and knee in order to increase the success of operation.

Material and Method: The study included 56 patients who had flexor tendon injuries. The patients were randomized into two groups by the computerized randomization method. Both groups were applied the "Modified Duran Protocol" (MDP) early passive mobilization exercises and "Retrograde Edema Massage". In addition, was applied 3M Coban self-adherent wrap to Group II. Finger circumferences was measured using a tape measure, and the pain intensity was evaluated with a visual analog scale (VAS). A goniometer was used to measure the joint range of motion (ROM), the Duruoz hand index (DHI) to evaluate functionality level, and the quality of life was investigated using the short form-36 (SF-36). Results: The results showed that was statistically significant differences in both groups compared to pre-treatment (p<0.05). Edema, ROM, and all parameters of the DHI were found in both groups improved significantly (p<0.05). VAS pain scores at rest and activity were found significantly decreased in both groups compared to pre-treatment (p<0.001). In addition, pain at activity was found more significantly decreased in Group II (using bandage group). When it comes to the quality of life, there was a significant improvement in the SF-36 scores in both groups (p<0.05). In addition, increases in the scores on the "Physical Functioning" and "Physical Role" subscales were more significant in Group II (p<0.05). Conclusion: In flexor tendon injuries, early rehabilitation and close follow-ups are likely to improve edema, upper extremity functions, and quality of life among patients. "Early Passive Mobilization Exercises (the Modified Duran Protocol)" and "Retrograde Edema Massage" are rather effective in edema treatment. Overall, we suggest that 3M Coban self-adherent wrap application also contributes to reducing pain at activity and improving physical functions following flexor tendon repairs.

To compare the effectiveness of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and interferential current in primary dysmenorrhea. Design. A prospective, randomized, and controlled study. Setting. Hacettepe University School of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation. Patients. Thirty-four volunteer subjects with primary dysmenorrhea (mean age: 21.35 ± 1.70 years) were included. Statistical analyses were performed in 32 subjects who completed all measures. Interventions. Fifteen subjects received interferential current application for 20 minutes and 17 subjects received transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation for 20 minutes when they were experiencing dysmenorrhea. Outcome Measures. Physical characteristics, years since menarche, length of menstrual cycle (days), and duration of menstruation (days) were recorded. Visual analog scale (VAS) intensities of menstrual pain, referred lower limb pain, and low back pain were recorded before treatment, and immediately, 8 hours, and 24 hours after treatment. Results. Intensities of the evaluated parameters decreased beginning from just after the applications in both groups (P < 0.05). Intensity of referring low back pain in first three measurement times was different between the groups (P < 0.05), but this difference is thought to be due to the baseline values of the groups. So, it can be said that no superiority existed between the methods (P > 0.05). Conclusion. Both transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation and interferential current appear to be effective in primary dysmenorrhea. As they are free from the potentially adverse effects of analgesics, and no adverse effects are reported in the literature nor observed in this study, a clinical trial of their effectiveness in comparison with untreated and placebo-treated control groups is warranted.

Cyberchondria may lead to increased use of health services and increased healthcare costs. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of Turkish form of the Cyberchondria Severity Scale (CSS). This study was conducted on 335 employees who work in Pamukkale University. Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS) was used for concurrent validity. After language adaptation and content validity of the CSS, confirmatory factor analyses (CFA) was performed. The mean age of participants was 38.2 ± 8.5 years and 64.5% of them were male. Cronbach alpha coefficient of CSS calculated for the reliability was 0.89, while the subscales ranged from 0.65 to 0.85. The correlation coefficients for test-retest reliability were ranged from 0.53-0.71. Correlation of CSS with DASS was r = 0.33. Fit indices based on CFA results were all excellent or within acceptable ranges. The Turkish version of CSS has adequate psychometric properties of validity and reliability, and can be used to assess cyberchondria.
