As such, it answers the call for investigating the moderators of firms’ FP in their environmental supply chain management. The paper presents the results of a study conducted among 500 firms located in Poland with the use of the CATI technique. The research results show that increasing the intensity of ICT utilization in ECPs, in most cases, does not affect the firms’ FP. Statistically significant relations were observed only in green design ECPs, which shows that increasing the intensity of ICT utilization in green design ECPs reduces the likelihood of revenue growth thanks to ECPs implementation. The paper fills a research gap in the moderating role of the intensity of ICT utilization in increasing financial benefits thanks to the implementation of ECPs in the suppl...

Authors have identified and compared the performance of three groups of companies: cooperating with external entities only formally, cooperating only informally and cooperating both formally and informally. The first main contribution of the paper is the inclusion of informal cooperation into companies’ cooperation analysis. The second is relating cooperation, to a company’s performance. The conclusions may be of practical importance. By presenting the positive relations between cooperation and performance, companies may determine the sources which may increase their advantage over competitors. The vast majority of research in this area concentrates on cooperation within supply chains which could have the most significant impact on company performance. The necessity of including informal contacts as well as formal contacts in the analysis is underlined. Due to the varying nature of both cooperation forms, they can have different effects on the way in which a firm functions. The aim of the article is to analyse the performance of companies characterized by varying approaches to formal and informal cooperation within the supply chain. Authors have identified and compared the market performance of three groups of companies: cooperation with external entities only formally, cooperating only informally and cooperating both formally and informally. Design/methodology/approach: The article presents the results of a survey conducted in September 2020 on a sample of 500 enterprises located in Poland. Respondents were asked to declare if they will maintain or abandon sustainable development initiatives in a crisis situation. The examples presented a pandemic similar to the one caused by Covid-19, an economic crisis, or a significant decrease in company revenues. Findings: The research showed that the largest group of companies in acrisis situation will completely abandon their initiatives in the field of sustainable development. Another group will give up those initiatives that generate the highest cost. There are some small differences in responses of local and international companies.

It assumes that the competitive advantage of a firm depends on its business relationships with various entities. The quality and number of business relationships a firm maintains shape its network position, which influences the firm’s performance. The aim of this paper is to propose a framework for analysing the development of the firm’s position in the business network in the context of the firm’s performance. A literature review method was used in the paper. Based on a literature analysis and the authors’ earlier research, the proposed framework suggests that a firm’s network position changes constantly due to continuous changes in the determinants of its network position and continuous changes in the firm’s behaviour as it develops its network position. In turn, changes in the network position impact the firm’s performance.

Currently, it is often analysed within the so-called network models, which take into account the importance of business relationships. The process of entry is not understood as a process of entering a foreign market, but a process of entering a network of business relationships on a foreign market. Insidership in such networks is necessary for successful internationalisation. Being an insider in the network means having a certain network position. The aim of the paper is to identify based on a pilot study the possible way of building network position on foreign markets by Polish food companies. The paper will present a picture of one company, focusing on its operations on German market since the entry in 2006. The researched company started building network position on foreign markets by developing a strong relationship with one actor, who acted as key int...

We label this transaction "adventurous FDI", and explain how this new concept is related to, yet distinct from, other widely studied theories: born global companies, the LLL model, and the Uppsala model. We propose a theoretical typology of adventurous FDI based on two critical factors for risktaking: distance and embeddedness. Methodology: We present a theoretical proposal of a typology of AFDIs. To support our proposal, we illustrate the typology with examples from a longitudinal study of foreign direct investments undertaken in the years 2007-2009 by Polish firms. Selection of the time period for this study is justified by the fact that the number of FDI transactions and AFDIs has almost doubled in the observed time period. We apply methods of social network analysis to identify embeddedness of FDIs and use geographic distance measures to classify transactions on a distance scale. Originality: Current theories of foreign direct investment (FDI) focus broadly on either gradual learning or instant globalization. We identify a new category which we term "adventurous FDI". The distinctive features of adventurous FDI includes the exploration of many unknowns related to distant locations and the use of advanced internationalization forms. We propose that embed dedness in country networks is instrumental to adventurous FDI, as the rapid learning inherent in such network arrangements enables firms to overcome the ambiguity associated with vast geographic, psychic, and cultural distance.
