ÖZ Çalışmanın amacı, kendine uyuşur 'Saurani', yarı uyuşur 'Sarı ulak' ve kendine uyuşmaz 'Kilis ... more ÖZ Çalışmanın amacı, kendine uyuşur 'Saurani', yarı uyuşur 'Sarı ulak' ve kendine uyuşmaz 'Kilis yağlık' zeytin çeşitlerinde eşeysel uyuşmazlık belirtilerinin ve zamanının belirlenmesi ayrıca iki farklı tozlama çalışmaları olan 'emaskülasyon sonrasında kendileme' ve 'kese sallama yöntemi ile kendileme' uygulayarak kullanılabilecek tozlama yöntemlerinin karşılaştırılması planlanmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda, kendine uyuşmaz 'Kilis yağlık' ve yarı uyuşur 'Sarı ulak' çeşitlerinde uyuşmazlık belirtilerinin özellikle tozlamadan sonraki 36. saatte görülmeye başladığı, kendine uyuşur 'Saurani'de ise 36. saatte çiçek tozu çim borularının tohum taslağına ulaştığı tespit edilmiştir. Yapılan farklı tozlama uygulamaları açısından ise uyuşmazlığın başlangıç zamanının belirlenmesi amacı ile yapılacak hassas çalışmalarda emaskülasyon sonrasında tozlama işleminin kullanılması şart iken, sadece durum belirlemesi üzerine yapılacak çalışmalarda kese sallama yönteminin yeterli olacağı kanısına varılmıştır.

Effects of the calcium nitrate doses were investigated in five strawberry cultivars on fruit qual... more Effects of the calcium nitrate doses were investigated in five strawberry cultivars on fruit quality parameter such as yield, firmness, average fruit weight, individual marketable fruit weight and individual unmarketable fruit weight. Cultivar 'Osmanlı' has soft fruit firmness, 'Camarosa' has hard strong fruit firmness and 'Sevgi', 'Ebru', 'Kaşka' cultivars have medium fruit firmness. Different Calcium Nitrate (Ca(NO 3) 2) doses(0 ml 100 L-1 (control), 150 ml 100 L-1 , 300 ml 100 L-1 and 450 ml 100 L-1) were sprayed on the leaves with one week intervals. Examined quality parameter weren't affected calcium nitrate doses except fruit firmness at April and beginning of May. The highest fruit firmness was detected at third dose (450 ml 100 L-1) in 10 May. All these parameters were affected from different strawberry cultivar which has different fruit firmness. Calcium nitrate was inadequate for improving fruit quality such as firmness, yield and marketable fruit size.

Matsum. and Nakai) is an economically important vegetable in the Cucurbitaceae family (Zhang et al., 2019). Although watermelons are generally diploid (2n=2x=22), they can also be found in triploid (3n=3x=33) and tetraploid (4n=4x=44) structures as autopolyploids (Blakeslee and Avery, 1937). Autopolyploids differ from diploids in that they have different DNA content, contain high levels of secondary metabolite organisms, have large tissues and organs, have a high yield, and provide tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress factors (Soltis et al., 2016; Godfree et al., 2017). Selection of suitable pollinizers is very important for persimmon that have a widespread problem ... more Selection of suitable pollinizers is very important for persimmon that have a widespread problem in fruit setting. This study aims to contribute for solving this problem. Study was carried out in 2010 vegetation period with 17 years old persimmon trees in Adana conditions. For this purpose, the suitability of Bruniquel and Ghora Gali pollinizer cultivars were searched for 9 local persimmon types (07TH05, 07TH06, 07TH13, 07TH14, 07TH17, 31TH01, 31TH02, 31TH03 and 33TH01). In laboratory tests of pollen viability, germination and quantity, it was determined that the potential of Ghora Gali and Bruniquel is satisfactory for a pollinizer. With controlled-pollination treatments, fruit drop was reduced compared with open pollination and non-pollination treatments. In terms of this, the best pollinator for 07TH14 and 33TH01 was Bruniquel and for 07TH06 and 07TH17 it was Ghora Gali. Both Bruniquel and Ghora Gali became suitable pollinators for 07TH05. In 07TH13, 31TH02 and 31TH03 genotypes, the best results were obtained from open pollination treatments. At the same time, 07TH14 and 33TH01 genotypes have high affinity to parthenocarpy because of their fruit set ability while there is not any pollinizer.

This study investigates whether, and how, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) is concerne... more This study investigates whether, and how, 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) is concerned in flower bud abscission of pistachio (Pistacia vera L.). Abscission was studied about the activation of the abscission zone, located between shoot and flower bud, from Uzun pistachio cultivar where the abscission profiles and the scanning electron micrographs pictorial differences in the abscission program, under natural conditions of flower bud. ACC content was investigated in the flower bud abscission zone during growth and abscission using liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC/ESI-MS/MS). Results showed that abscission layers were started at first 45 days after full blooming (DAFB) and accomplished on 55 and 65 DAFB from 'On' year sampling. The activities of ACC in the flower bud abscission zone were significantly increased and decreased by flower bud abscission. A strong rise of ACC synthase in leaf and panicle was observed at the beginning of abscission, corresponding to stage 45 DAFB. High levels of ACC activity were found in whole abscission period indicating a possible role of ACC in pistachio flower bud abscission. At the end of the period (65 DAFB), the ACC levels gradually decreased and reached to minimum. Consequently, abscission-promoting effect of ACC depends on the phenological periods. These results provide strong evidence of flower abscission zone and the role of ACC in flower bud abscission possibly for the first time.

Türkiye limon üretiminde dünyada söz sahibi ülkeler arasında yer almaktadır. Ülkemizde üretilen l... more Türkiye limon üretiminde dünyada söz sahibi ülkeler arasında yer almaktadır. Ülkemizde üretilen limon çeşitleri arasında Kütdiken, üretim ve dış satım bakımından en önemli çeşit durumundadır. Ancak limonlarda meyve tutumunu doğrudan etkileyen meyve dökümlerinin oldukça fazla olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu meyve dökümlerinin budama ve gübreleme gibi bakım işlemleri yanında, bir önceki yetiştirme periyodunda meyvelerin geç hasat edilmesi gibi faktörlerden de etkilendiği düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada Kütdiken limonunda yapılan değişik uygulamaların, meyve dökümleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, hafif budama ve topraktan rutin gübrelemeye ek olarak yapraktan P, Zn ve B gübrelemesi ile Geç Hasat uygulamaları yapılmıştır. Uygulamalardan sonra, belirlenen dallardaki aylık zaman aralıklarıyla yapılan meyve sayımları ile meyve döküm oranlarının farklı uygulamalarda hangi dönemlerde ve hangi düzeylerde gerçekleştiği belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, yapılan tüm uygulamalarda özellikle mayıs ve haziran aylarındaki meyve dökümlerinin çok şiddetli olduğu, bundan sonraki aylarda ise dökümlerin giderek azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Yapraktan gübreleme uygulamalarının özellikle Zn ve B içeren yaprak gübrelerinin erken dönemde meyve dökümlerini azaltarak meyve tutumunu arttırdıkları saptanmıştır. Geç hasat uygulamalarında ise meyve döküm oranı artarak kontrolden daha düşük meyve tutumuna neden olmuştur. Ayrıca, 2015 yılında aylık meyve dökümlerinin 2014 yılına oranla azaldığı ve zaman itibarı ile daha kısa sürdüğü belirlenmiştir. Bu durum, her yıl iyi bakım sağlanmasının meyve tutumuna etkisini açıkça göstermiştir.

Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of different high temperature tolerant tomato genotyp... more Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of different high temperature tolerant tomato genotypes were evaluated under Adana, Turkey conditions in two different periods. The control treatment (normal sown, where day/night temperatures during the vegetative and generative stage are below 32/20 °C) of the first period started on February 20, 2015. The seedlings in the second period were planted on May 15, 2015. The performances of twenty-four tomato genotypes (resistant and sensitive commercial genotypes) were compared to determine high temperature resistant and sensitive tomato genotypes. Significant relationship was obtained between the yield and the number of pollens. The results of the experiment revealed that 'Tom173', 'Tom119' and 'F15656' genotypes were more resistant, while 'Tom108' and 'Tom10' genotypes were more sensitive compared to the other tomato genotypes tested in the experiment.

In this study, pin and thrum flowered wild primrose (Primula vulgaris= Syn: Primula acaulis) popu... more In this study, pin and thrum flowered wild primrose (Primula vulgaris= Syn: Primula acaulis) populations, which are naturally distributed in Black Sea Region in Türkiye, were cultivated and their pollen viability, pollen tube growth and embryo development stages were investigated. As a result of the study, pollen viability in pollen of the pin flower type was 83.10%, while the in vitro germination rate was 69.43%. The viability and in vitro germination rates of pollen of thrum flower type were 84.91% and 67.92%, respectively. As a result of the squash preparation examinations, it was observed that the pollen tubes of both types started to germinate on the stigma on the 1 DAP (Day after pollination). On 4 DAP, it was determined that pollen tubes penetrated to the ovule. Embryo developmental stages examinations showed that, zygote formation occurred on 6 DAP in the pin flower type; while on the 20 DAP, the embryo was in the heart stage and finally on the 40 DAP, it was seen that it formed a mature cotyledonary stage embryo. Endosperm in the thrum type started to develop faster than the pin type and formed on the 6 and 7 DAP. In the thrum flower type, the proembryo formed on 10 DAP, but embryo formation could only be seen on 30 DAP. In the ovary examinations performed on the 40 DAP, some embryos were in the cotyledon stage while some were still in the globular or heart stage. It was also determined that no embryos were found in some ovules.

Yerli. In the study, 'Isolation', 'Open-pollination', 'Selfpollination' and 'Cross-pollination' treatments were evaluated. The results showed that, nucellar embryo initial cell (NEIC)s firstly formed from chalazal part of nucellus depending on fertilization. They use the nucellus for their first development and after reaching to embryo sac, start to use up endosperm in order to develop. When the Sour orange var. Yerli was cross pollinated with Poncirus trifoliata, pollen tube growth rate becomes slower and lower in number. At the same time, the limited number of cross pollinated ovules did not develop sufficient endosperm inside the embryo sac. These cases were not seen in Openpollination and Self-pollination treatments. Non-astringent persimmon production is increasing due to its ease of consumption. However, fruit ... more Non-astringent persimmon production is increasing due to its ease of consumption. However, fruit set of persimmon contends excessive fruit drops and often cannot show its real performance. This study aimed to determine the effects of pollination on fruit set and fruit quality such as; fruit weight, seed number and seedless-fruit ratio in some non-astringent persimmon cultivars. In this study 'Fuyu', 'Giant Fuyu' and 'O'Gosho' were used as main cultivars. Non-pollination (bagging), open-and controlled-pollinations with 'Bruniquel', 'Ghora Gali', 'Mandarino' and 'Mercatelli' were investigated for determining the effects of pollination. As a result, using pollinizer, especially 'Ghora Gali', increased fruit set up to 79.9% in 'Fuyu', 49.0% in 'Giant Fuyu' and 55.3% in 'O'Gosho'. Seedless fruit ratio showed that, 'Fuyu' and 'O'Gosho' has tendency to form parthenocarpic fruits while 'Giant Fuyu' needs pollination in order to set fruit. But, for a better fruit set there must be pollinizer in the orchard.

The activities of ACC in the flower bud abscission zone were significantly increased and decreased by flower bud abscission. A strong rise of ACC synthase in leaf and panicle was observed at the beginning of abscission, corresponding to stage 45 DAFB. High levels of ACC activity were found in whole abscission period indicating a possible role of ACC in pistachio flower bud abscission. At the end of the period (65 DAFB), the ACC levels gradually decreased and reached to minimum. Consequently, abscission-promoting effect of ACC depends on the phenological periods. These results provide strong evidence of flower abscission zone and the role of ACC in flower bud abscission possibly for the first time.

Ülkemizde üretilen limon çeşitleri arasında Kütdiken, üretim ve dış satım bakımından en önemli çeşit durumundadır. Ancak limonlarda meyve tutumunu doğrudan etkileyen meyve dökümlerinin oldukça fazla olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu meyve dökümlerinin budama ve gübreleme gibi bakım işlemleri yanında, bir önceki yetiştirme periyodunda meyvelerin geç hasat edilmesi gibi faktörlerden de etkilendiği düşünülmektedir. Bu çalışmada Kütdiken limonunda yapılan değişik uygulamaların, meyve dökümleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, hafif budama ve topraktan rutin gübrelemeye ek olarak yapraktan P, Zn ve B gübrelemesi ile Geç Hasat uygulamaları yapılmıştır. Uygulamalardan sonra, belirlenen dallardaki aylık zaman aralıklarıyla yapılan meyve sayımları ile meyve döküm oranlarının farklı uygulamalarda hangi dönemlerde ve hangi düzeylerde gerçekleştiği belirlenmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda, yapılan tüm uygulamalarda özellikle mayıs ve haziran aylarındaki meyve dökümlerinin çok şiddetli olduğu, bundan sonraki aylarda ise dökümlerin giderek azaldığı belirlenmiştir. Yapraktan gübreleme uygulamalarının özellikle Zn ve B içeren yaprak gübrelerinin erken dönemde meyve dökümlerini azaltarak meyve tutumunu arttırdıkları saptanmıştır. Geç hasat uygulamalarında ise meyve döküm oranı artarak kontrolden daha düşük meyve tutumuna neden olmuştur. Ayrıca, 2015 yılında aylık meyve dökümlerinin 2014 yılına oranla azaldığı ve zaman itibarı ile daha kısa sürdüğü belirlenmiştir. Bu durum, her yıl iyi bakım sağlanmasının meyve tutumuna etkisini açıkça göstermiştir.

Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of different high temperature tolerant tomato genotyp... more Pollen quality, pollen production and yield of different high temperature tolerant tomato genotypes were evaluated under Adana, Turkey conditions in two different periods. The control treatment (normal sown, where day/night temperatures during the vegetative and generative stage are below 32/20 °C) of the first period started on February 20, 2015. The seedlings in the second period were planted on May 15, 2015. The performances of twenty-four tomato genotypes (resistant and sensitive commercial genotypes) were compared to determine high temperature resistant and sensitive tomato genotypes. Significant relationship was obtained between the yield and the number of pollens. The results of the experiment revealed that 'Tom173', 'Tom119' and 'F15656' genotypes were more resistant, while 'Tom108' and 'Tom10' genotypes were more sensitive compared to the other tomato genotypes tested in the experiment.

In this study, pin and thrum flowered wild primrose (Primula vulgaris= Syn: Primula acaulis) popu... more In this study, pin and thrum flowered wild primrose (Primula vulgaris= Syn: Primula acaulis) populations, which are naturally distributed in Black Sea Region in Türkiye, were cultivated and their pollen viability, pollen tube growth and embryo development stages were investigated. As a result of the study, pollen viability in pollen of the pin flower type was 83.10%, while the in vitro germination rate was 69.43%. The viability and in vitro germination rates of pollen of thrum flower type were 84.91% and 67.92%, respectively. As a result of the squash preparation examinations, it was observed that the pollen tubes of both types started to germinate on the stigma on the 1 DAP (Day after pollination). On 4 DAP, it was determined that pollen tubes penetrated to the ovule. Embryo developmental stages examinations showed that, zygote formation occurred on 6 DAP in the pin flower type; while on the 20 DAP, the embryo was in the heart stage and finally on the 40 DAP, it was seen that it formed a mature cotyledonary stage embryo. Endosperm in the thrum type started to develop faster than the pin type and formed on the 6 and 7 DAP. In the thrum flower type, the proembryo formed on 10 DAP, but embryo formation could only be seen on 30 DAP. In the ovary examinations performed on the 40 DAP, some embryos were in the cotyledon stage while some were still in the globular or heart stage. It was also determined that no embryos were found in some ovules.

Yerli. In the study, 'Isolation', 'Open-pollination', 'Selfpollination' and 'Cross-pollination' treatments were evaluated. The results showed that, nucellar embryo initial cell (NEIC)s firstly formed from chalazal part of nucellus depending on fertilization. They use the nucellus for their first development and after reaching to embryo sac, start to use up endosperm in order to develop. When the Sour orange var. Yerli was cross pollinated with Poncirus trifoliata, pollen tube growth rate becomes slower and lower in number. At the same time, the limited number of cross pollinated ovules did not develop sufficient endosperm inside the embryo sac. These cases were not seen in Openpollination and Self-pollination treatments. However, fruit set of persimmon contends excessive fruit drops and often cannot show its real performance. This study aimed to determine the effects of pollination on fruit set and fruit quality such as; fruit weight, seed number and seedless-fruit ratio in some non-astringent persimmon cultivars. In this study 'Fuyu', 'Giant Fuyu' and 'O'Gosho' were used as main cultivars. Non-pollination (bagging), open-and controlled-pollinations with 'Bruniquel', 'Ghora Gali', 'Mandarino' and 'Mercatelli' were investigated for determining the effects of pollination. As a result, using pollinizer, especially 'Ghora Gali', increased fruit set up to 79.9% in 'Fuyu', 49.0% in 'Giant Fuyu' and 55.3% in 'O'Gosho'. Seedless fruit ratio showed that, 'Fuyu' and 'O'Gosho' has tendency to form parthenocarpic fruits while 'Giant Fuyu' needs pollination in order to set fruit. But, for a better fruit set there must be pollinizer in the orchard.
