The article is devoted to the study of Ukraine's step-by-step path to European integration and th... more The article is devoted to the study of Ukraine's step-by-step path to European integration and the approximation of the level of compliance with the legislation of the European Union. For many years, our state proved its desire to become a part of the "European family", developing active cooperation in various areas, carrying out legislative reforms and increasing the level of welfare of the population. Ukraine's European integration aspirations are an integral part of the policy of the top management of our country, which is why outlining the most significant events on the way to EU membership is more relevant than ever. In the course of the study, the prerequisites for Ukraine's choice of a European integration course were analyzed, taking into account the Soviet past. The main events that created the ground for the signing of the Association Agreement between Ukraine and the EU are highlighted, taking into account the democratic sentiments of the Ukrainian people and the work of the government. This Agreement is a qualitatively new format of Ukraine-EU relations, and it means in-depth cooperation based on the principle of conditionality. In addition, the authors consider radical changes in the process of European integration, taking into account the events of the "EuroMaidan" and military operations in the east of Ukraine in 2013-2014, as well as the beginning of a fullscale invasion of Russia into the territory of Ukraine in 2022. These events greatly influenced the further course of history, but did not destroy the firm confidence in the landmarks. Special attention should be paid to Ukraine's acquisition of the status of a candidate for membership in the European Union and the unique accelerated "fasttrack" procedure, which has no precedents in the history of waves of EU expansion. The analysis outlined what conditions have already been met on the way to EU membership (as of October 2022) and what is still needed in the future for Ukraine to acquire this status. Considering the great support from the European Union and active actions from Ukraine, we believe that our state has great prospects for quickly acquiring the status of a member state, which is confirmed by the daily work of the Parliament and the Government of Ukraine.
