In Shota Rustaveli's poem "The Knight in the Panter's Skin" (12th century) these are the countries on whose territory the main plot takes place: Indoeti, Arabeti, Khataeti. The article examines the Russian translations of Arabeti and Khataeti in the context of the cultural and political situation of the region during the Rustaveli era. The comparative analysis showed that, in contrast to translations of the 20th century, translations created at the turn of the 20th-21st centuries provide a greater opportunity to understand the geographical space of the text. Domestication is fixed from two main positions: hermeneutical translation and correction with the modern geopolitical map.

We think that their works, which are dedicated to the history of Georgian literature of the 19th century, are very important. This time, we will focus your attention on the creations of Ilia Chavchavadze and Akaki Tsereteli researched by Al. Tsagareli and Al. Khakhanashvili. Both critics, Al. Tsagareli and Al. Khakhanashvili considered the works of Ilia and Akaki in a broad cultural context. Scientists tried to objectively evaluate the merits of Ilia and Akaki in the development of Georgian literature of the 19th century. The difference in their critical opinions is explained by the difference in priorities of evaluation criteria (artistic aesthetic ideological-societal). Although from today’s point of view, some evaluations and interpretations of Georgian scientists are perceived as subjective, if we take into account the diachrony of Georgian critical thinking of the 19th century, it becomes clear that the discussions of critics are completely consistent with the main trends of the general European context of theoretical thinking at that time.

His five years in Tbilisi became crucial in his creative fate: published in Tbilisi collections of poems created in the Caucasus ("Sazandari" 1849, "Several Poems", 1851) were appreciated and made him famous. The aim of our study was to reveal the connection between the Georgian reality and specifics of its comprehension and refraction in the romantic discourse of the poet. The study material was the discourse of the text of the poem "After the Feast" (1849), Polonsky's realistic essay and excerpts from the poet's letters to friends. Such a study was carried out for the first time. The results of the analysis allow us to analyze the poet's personal relations with representatives of Georgian intelligentsia and the accepted at the time socio-cultural behavior of Georgian aristocracy at the time.

The Tree of life (immortality) is a prototype of all magic plants i.e. plants which have
the power to resurrect the dead, heal the sick, grant the humans the immortality, rejuvenate
the old, etc. Trees are a symbol of the universe and its constant renewal. However, the
Tree of Immortality, Eternal Life or Perception has always been in the center of the
universe.
The symbolism of Oak is the particular interest to us. The German god Thor (Odin) had
been hung on the Oak-tree for forty days in order to perceive the essence of immortality, life and the marvelous mystery of human life. Megrelians (the ethnic group in the west of
Georgia) used to hang the dead on the Oak-tree. The Oak is a symbol of power, eternal
renewal (immortality) in the mind of the Georgians. The Ancient Georgian tribes used to
pray under the Oak – “Chqoni’ in Megrelian language. The Martvili monastery was
constructed in the place of the felled oak (there is a theory that a term “Chqondideli’ is
derived from the Megrelian name of the Oak).
The vine is frequent as a symbol of immortality and life in Mesopotamian myths and
legends. Gilgamesh sees a magic tree and the Goddess Sidur (i.e. virgin) in an orchard.
The Vine was also identified with the Tree of life in the Near East. Originally a vine leaf
used to be a symbol of life for the Sumerians. The vines, which survived devastation in
vineyards ruined by invaders, were also perceived as the symbol of eternal life in the
historical past of the Georgians. The Vine denoted immortality.
As regards Lebanon Tree or the Tree of Life, there are numerous variations but we
consider the history of only two trees: Tree of Lebanon – symbol of Svetitskhoveli (Life
Pillar in Georgian) and Tree planted by Loth in the place is here the Georgian ancestors
built the Athon Monastery.
There are numerous examples of the presence of a soul retained in a tree in Georgian
folklore and not only in folklore. A variation of this theme is plentiful in writings of Giorgi
Leonidze, Otar Chiladze and other.

A prerequisite for this is the creation of a special oriental atmosphere of the artistic space of the work. The East of Shota Rustaveli's poem (XII century) covers a huge cultural area and is created with the help of various artistic techniques. To what extent between the artistic reality of the poem and the cultural and historical situation of its epoch preserved when it is transfer in the Russian culture? We have analyzed the markers of Rustaveli's East (intertextual references, cultural concepts, realities) in the main Russian-language translations of the poem. A comparative analysis showed that the Russian-language translations adequately conveyed the "oriental flavor" of the poem, but in the process of domestication the connection with the real East of the Rustaveli era is lost. In our opinion this fact, along with the loss of the philosophical and theological depth and rhythmics of the original, this factor also played a role in the fact that up to the present day the poem is perceived by the Russian-speaking reader more as an "oriental tale", "epic" than the Christian literature work.
