Based on the analysis, generalization and systematization of documents, some well-known to resear... more Based on the analysis, generalization and systematization of documents, some well-known to researchers and others not so much investigated, this article studies the influence of Western European Baroque art on the iconography of the region of Slobozhanska (Ukraine) during the 17th and 18th centuries. It is argued that the use of Western European religious themes by Slobozhanshchyna icon painters, in combination with previous iconographic traditions and their transformation to the spiritual and religious features of the region, contributed to the development of a regional iconographic art, a process that could be regarded as a unique phenomenon in the history of Ukrainian culture. As the text will highlight, the stylistic program of Slobozhanshchyna iconography of the Baroque period was influenced by symbolic and emblematic Western European collections that inspired icon painters to create new iconographic subjects. To that aim, the article analyses the artistic and figurative system of iconography, considers its characteristic stylistic features, and draws attention to the borrowing of elements of Western European painting and graphics in Orthodox iconography.

Comparative analysis of art education in Kharkiv during the wartime period: 1941 and 2022 (view through the prism of today). The article provides an overview of the educational process of H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University during the period of martial law. The potential of Skovoroda University as an educational center of Kharkiv Oblast, functioning during the war and continuing to provide professional training of specialists, is described. Since the situation in wartime Kharkiv and the region is similar to the historical processes of 1941-1943 (the years of the occupation of Kharkiv by the Third Reich), the purpose of the article is to conduct a comparative analysis of the art education during the period of military confrontation in 2022 and during the period of German occupation. The result of the study is a presentation of the image policy of Kharkiv universities, primarily H.S. Skovoroda Kharkiv National Pedagogical University, which reveals the peculiarities of the organization of the educational process in wartime conditions. The practical significance of the study lies in using the acquired experience of the educational process organization, effective pedagogical and information technologies that allow to provide a high-quality functioning of the art education system in the conditions of martial law. It can be concluded that today the educational community should organize not only effective resistance to the Russian aggressor, but also be able to quickly adapt in the changing conditions of the war, using information and communication technologies for providing the quality of the educational process.

This article presents the findings of the research into improving design professional training by... more This article presents the findings of the research into improving design professional training by means of project activities alongside art and multimedia technologies (MTs). It discusses the role of artistic skills in the success of project activities, in particular, the skills of visual representation of the environment via MTs. It was confirmed that the development of media significantly changed the technological potential of design, as well as its artistic value. Therefore, professional training content became the primary focus of attention, since it appeared vital to involve new forms of creating artistic design projects with such modern methods as media fusion and motion graphics. The development of digital technologies promoted changes in teaching methods, adjustments in curricula according to the demands of modern design and those of introducing creative approaches in project activity teaching. The experimental part of the study demonstrates the dynamics of forming professional project skills on the authors’ special course ‘Multimedia Technologies’.

A retrospective study of theoretical principles and practice of artistic processes formation in t... more A retrospective study of theoretical principles and practice of artistic processes formation in the 30’s shows their important theoretical and practical significance for the formation of art-pedagogical education. It is proved that the reform of 1934 radically changed the system of art education. The curricula of all art schools returned to academism, popularizing classical art view, work with model, displaying the socialistic reality by realistic methods. Approved new functions of art-pedagogical education such as: ideological, scientifical and methodical. The analysis of historical and literary sources shows that the problem of a future Soviet teacher (who could not only actively absorb professional knowledge, but also to be an artist, ideologist, helmsman, and guide, in the class struggle of the proletariat) formation was brewing in the society.

The research is associated with a comprehensive study of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine. It is an attempt of historical justification and objective interpretation of icon painting artefacts of the Baroque period in the seventeenth and eighteenth century from the point of view of the style formation, icon painting features and identification of regional specificity as an integral part of the historically determined artistic system and artistic phenomenon of Ukrainian culture. The research methodology consists in the use of art-historical, comparative, and historical and logical methods. Its methodological framework is the principles of systematicity and historicism. Icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine is studied as a phenomenon of national culture and a phenomenon of a certain cultural and historical situation interacting with social, historical and cultural factors. The scientific novelty of the research is that it is for the first time in Ukrainian art history that the evolution of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine is studied and the concept of the cultural and historical context of the origin and development of this artistic phenomenon is extended based on primary sources. The place that the Sloboda Ukraine icons occupy in the general development of Ukrainian icon painting has been determined for the first time. Conclusions. The analysis of the artistic and imagery system of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine has shown that the Baroque style was dominant in the period studied, as well as in the whole Ukrainian art; it was best suited for the national character and embodied the Ukrainian mentality. The spread of the Baroque style in the region was determined by the peculiarities of the spiritual life of the period, its secularization. Referring to the innovations of Western art fell on the original local «soil», intertwining with the Ukrainian sacral painting traditions in the works of various local schools, as well as with the post-Byzantine tradition, which led to original interweaving of archaisms and innovations.

Today, one of the sources of building a national system of high school is a historical analysis o... more Today, one of the sources of building a national system of high school is a historical analysis of the development and teaching of art education in Ukraine. Therefore, the provided article analyzes the historical circumstances that influenced on the formation of higher art education in Ukraine at early twentieth century. Reveals the factors that somehow transformed the system of cultural and educational values. We investigated that factors which contributed to the formation of national Art school. At the appointed time there was made a big step at the development of formal Art education with benchmark on the achievements of European Art schools.
This was the first time in the history of pedagogy, when educational issues discussed with the political parties. At the state level, it was announced the formation of a new strategy for higher education which was to reorganize the system of management, Ukrainianization, deepening of national consciousness, development in the direction of professional education. With coming to the Ukraine, Bolsheviks regime - the general management of education assumes the People's Commissariat. The newly formed Provisional ‘Workers and Peasants' Government in its educational program, firstly puts an organization of the people’s universities where everybody could learn all what he wants. So, through a single labor school there were opened accesses to the university and professional education for proletariat.

Abstract: а retrospective study of theoretical principles and the experience of the artistic proc... more Abstract: а retrospective study of theoretical principles and the experience of the artistic process becoming at the 30s show their important scientific and practical significance for the formation of art-pedagogical education in Ukraine of the twentieth century.
Thus, reforms have been carried out in the defined years, dramatically changed the system of national higher art-pedagogical education of proletarian culture on academic perspective. Unification of teaching methods gradually led to the final departure of innovation at the beginning of the XX century. The politicization of the higher art school denied, in fact, previous historical experience of art-pedagogical researches in formal-technical frameworks and follow to only one permitted direction - the method of socialistic realism.
Since the latest 30's society has realized the urgent necessity to graduate art-pedagogical professional teaching staff, but unfortunately there was no one university in Ukraine that graduate qualified professionals in this sphere.
As a positive factor there can be noticed the commencing of new features in the system of art-pedagogical education – research-development and methodological direction.
Artistic elite, personified by outstanding cultural and educational figures, over a long historical period created a national heritage in their own creative workshops and shared their teaching experience to future generations, acting as carriers of artistic culture. They formed that art-pedagogical background, which made possible a new stage of the national education development. All these events are actively developing against the background of spiritual culture rising and productive development of science, education, literature and art.
Artistic and pedagogical process of the twentieth century broadcast to cultural wealth of Ukrainians, reported national, social and ideological issues of that time, launched a patriotic and educational potential of the individual, contributed to the preservation of Ukrainian ethnic identity.

In this paper we analyze the problem of educational process in higher art institutions of Ukraine... more In this paper we analyze the problem of educational process in higher art institutions of Ukraine over a span of 20 years using professional literature and archival documents. A new concept of practicality and professionalism is introduced after the high school reform (1920). Academic education is eliminated completely; schools of various orientations are created instead having subject-specific departments. Numerous vocational art schools appear in the system of higher art education and face new challenges, such as to have excellent knowledge of the production processes and to be able to combine engineering knowledge with artistic skills. Despite the reformist, vigorous character of these developments, aestheticization of the teachers’ professional training becomes prominent in the educational practice. However, grand prospects of the art and industry cooperation face some difficulties, such as the lack of properly trained teaching staff. Around mid-20s, Ukraine leading art institutions (Kyiv Institute of Plastic Arts (1925), Odessa Polytechnic College of Fine Arts (1925)) open education departments. Based on archival documents, a hypothesis is suggested regarding opening of the Education Department at Kharkiv Art College. For the first time there are unknown documents introduced on A. Komashko’s role in turning the Kharkiv Art College into an Institute.

However, the problems of the development of higher art teaching education in the majority of normative documents and in the scientific community as well are given insufficient attention.
A serious look at the cultural heritage of each nation and achievements of the world culture in general is staying one of the most important conditions for the progress of arts teaching in higher school. The world culture as a system of spiritual and cultural standards is capable to accumulate, transform and convey knowledge to the following generations. In many European countries the prospects of cultural development are linked with the artistic education and the art teaching in particular.
Today when the global integration of European countries is impetuously going on the problem of organization and development of higher artistic pedagogic education is becoming particularly important. This education should not be limited to teaching only the professional skills, it is an important component of the integral spiritual personal development contributing to the general cultural potential of the Ukrainian society.

We study a new concept of professional orientation in the development of national art education. We consider the organization of educational process in the Kharkiv Art College. It is shown that exactly in this 20-s years there was marked the emergence of higher art-pedagogical education in Ukraine with focus on the revival of ethnic and cultural traditions. Firstly introduced the fact that in the Kharkiv Art College was established art-pedagogical department. All reorganization of art-pedagogical education of 20-s was in pedagogisation the theoretical block of disciplines. Professors, teachers, art-critics, concerned in training quality of art-educational staff and were convinced that the training of specialists in artistic profiles need to differentiate in targets.
Artistic and pedagogical process of the twentieth century broadcast to cultural wealth of Ukrainians, reported national, social and ideological issues of that time, launched a patriotic and educational potential of the individual, contributed to the preservation of Ukrainian ethnic identity.

Approved new functions of art-pedagogical education such as: ideological, scientifical and methodical.
Analysis of historical and literary sources shows that the problem of future Soviet teacher (who could not only actively absorb professional knowledge, but also to be an artist, ideologist, helmsman, and guide, in the class struggle of the proletariat) formation was brewing in the society.
Based on archival materials it is proved that exactly in postgraduate studies and in the scientific-research departments it was formed practical abilities and skills of future teachers. The necessity for training of artists-teachers was urgent but complex political events of the 30's, continuous repressions, destruction of the Ukrainian intelligentsia interrupted introduced in the 20's initiatives about scientific training of art-pedagogical specialists.

A retrospective study of theoretical principles and practice of artistic processes formation in t... more A retrospective study of theoretical principles and practice of artistic processes formation in the 30’s shows their important theoretical and practical significance for the formation of art-pedagogical education. It is proved that the reform of 1934 radically changed the system of art education. The curricula of all art schools returned to academism, popularizing classical art view, work with model, displaying the socialistic reality by realistic methods. Approved new functions of art-pedagogical education such as: ideological, scientifical and methodical. The analysis of historical and literary sources shows that the problem of a future Soviet teacher (who could not only actively absorb professional knowledge, but also to be an artist, ideologist, helmsman, and guide, in the class struggle of the proletariat) formation was brewing in the society.

The research is associated with a comprehensive study of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine. It is an attempt of historical justification and objective interpretation of icon painting artefacts of the Baroque period in the seventeenth and eighteenth century from the point of view of the style formation, icon painting features and identification of regional specificity as an integral part of the historically determined artistic system and artistic phenomenon of Ukrainian culture. The research methodology consists in the use of art-historical, comparative, and historical and logical methods. Its methodological framework is the principles of systematicity and historicism. Icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine is studied as a phenomenon of national culture and a phenomenon of a certain cultural and historical situation interacting with social, historical and cultural factors. The scientific novelty of the research is that it is for the first time in Ukrainian art history that the evolution of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine is studied and the concept of the cultural and historical context of the origin and development of this artistic phenomenon is extended based on primary sources. The place that the Sloboda Ukraine icons occupy in the general development of Ukrainian icon painting has been determined for the first time. Conclusions. The analysis of the artistic and imagery system of icon painting in Sloboda Ukraine has shown that the Baroque style was dominant in the period studied, as well as in the whole Ukrainian art; it was best suited for the national character and embodied the Ukrainian mentality. The spread of the Baroque style in the region was determined by the peculiarities of the spiritual life of the period, its secularization. Referring to the innovations of Western art fell on the original local «soil», intertwining with the Ukrainian sacral painting traditions in the works of various local schools, as well as with the post-Byzantine tradition, which led to original interweaving of archaisms and innovations.

Today, one of the sources of building a national system of high school is a historical analysis o... more Today, one of the sources of building a national system of high school is a historical analysis of the development and teaching of art education in Ukraine. Therefore, the provided article analyzes the historical circumstances that influenced on the formation of higher art education in Ukraine at early twentieth century. Reveals the factors that somehow transformed the system of cultural and educational values. We investigated that factors which contributed to the formation of national Art school. At the appointed time there was made a big step at the development of formal Art education with benchmark on the achievements of European Art schools.
This was the first time in the history of pedagogy, when educational issues discussed with the political parties. At the state level, it was announced the formation of a new strategy for higher education which was to reorganize the system of management, Ukrainianization, deepening of national consciousness, development in the direction of professional education. With coming to the Ukraine, Bolsheviks regime - the general management of education assumes the People's Commissariat. The newly formed Provisional ‘Workers and Peasants' Government in its educational program, firstly puts an organization of the people’s universities where everybody could learn all what he wants. So, through a single labor school there were opened accesses to the university and professional education for proletariat.

Abstract: а retrospective study of theoretical principles and the experience of the artistic proc... more Abstract: а retrospective study of theoretical principles and the experience of the artistic process becoming at the 30s show their important scientific and practical significance for the formation of art-pedagogical education in Ukraine of the twentieth century.
Thus, reforms have been carried out in the defined years, dramatically changed the system of national higher art-pedagogical education of proletarian culture on academic perspective. Unification of teaching methods gradually led to the final departure of innovation at the beginning of the XX century. The politicization of the higher art school denied, in fact, previous historical experience of art-pedagogical researches in formal-technical frameworks and follow to only one permitted direction - the method of socialistic realism.
Since the latest 30's society has realized the urgent necessity to graduate art-pedagogical professional teaching staff, but unfortunately there was no one university in Ukraine that graduate qualified professionals in this sphere.
As a positive factor there can be noticed the commencing of new features in the system of art-pedagogical education – research-development and methodological direction.
Artistic elite, personified by outstanding cultural and educational figures, over a long historical period created a national heritage in their own creative workshops and shared their teaching experience to future generations, acting as carriers of artistic culture. They formed that art-pedagogical background, which made possible a new stage of the national education development. All these events are actively developing against the background of spiritual culture rising and productive development of science, education, literature and art.
Artistic and pedagogical process of the twentieth century broadcast to cultural wealth of Ukrainians, reported national, social and ideological issues of that time, launched a patriotic and educational potential of the individual, contributed to the preservation of Ukrainian ethnic identity.

In this paper we analyze the problem of educational process in higher art institutions of Ukraine... more In this paper we analyze the problem of educational process in higher art institutions of Ukraine over a span of 20 years using professional literature and archival documents. A new concept of practicality and professionalism is introduced after the high school reform (1920). Academic education is eliminated completely; schools of various orientations are created instead having subject-specific departments. Numerous vocational art schools appear in the system of higher art education and face new challenges, such as to have excellent knowledge of the production processes and to be able to combine engineering knowledge with artistic skills. Despite the reformist, vigorous character of these developments, aestheticization of the teachers’ professional training becomes prominent in the educational practice. However, grand prospects of the art and industry cooperation face some difficulties, such as the lack of properly trained teaching staff. Around mid-20s, Ukraine leading art institutions (Kyiv Institute of Plastic Arts (1925), Odessa Polytechnic College of Fine Arts (1925)) open education departments. Based on archival documents, a hypothesis is suggested regarding opening of the Education Department at Kharkiv Art College. For the first time there are unknown documents introduced on A. Komashko’s role in turning the Kharkiv Art College into an Institute.

However, the problems of the development of higher art teaching education in the majority of normative documents and in the scientific community as well are given insufficient attention.
A serious look at the cultural heritage of each nation and achievements of the world culture in general is staying one of the most important conditions for the progress of arts teaching in higher school. The world culture as a system of spiritual and cultural standards is capable to accumulate, transform and convey knowledge to the following generations. In many European countries the prospects of cultural development are linked with the artistic education and the art teaching in particular.
Today when the global integration of European countries is impetuously going on the problem of organization and development of higher artistic pedagogic education is becoming particularly important. This education should not be limited to teaching only the professional skills, it is an important component of the integral spiritual personal development contributing to the general cultural potential of the Ukrainian society.

We study a new concept of professional orientation in the development of national art education. We consider the organization of educational process in the Kharkiv Art College. It is shown that exactly in this 20-s years there was marked the emergence of higher art-pedagogical education in Ukraine with focus on the revival of ethnic and cultural traditions. Firstly introduced the fact that in the Kharkiv Art College was established art-pedagogical department. All reorganization of art-pedagogical education of 20-s was in pedagogisation the theoretical block of disciplines. Professors, teachers, art-critics, concerned in training quality of art-educational staff and were convinced that the training of specialists in artistic profiles need to differentiate in targets.
Artistic and pedagogical process of the twentieth century broadcast to cultural wealth of Ukrainians, reported national, social and ideological issues of that time, launched a patriotic and educational potential of the individual, contributed to the preservation of Ukrainian ethnic identity.

Analysis of historical and literary sources shows that the problem of future Soviet teacher (who could not only actively absorb professional knowledge, but also to be an artist, ideologist, helmsman, and guide, in the class struggle of the proletariat) formation was brewing in the society.
Based on archival materials it is proved that exactly in postgraduate studies and in the scientific-research departments it was formed practical abilities and skills of future teachers. The necessity for training of artists-teachers was urgent but complex political events of the 30's, continuous repressions, destruction of the Ukrainian intelligentsia interrupted introduced in the 20's initiatives about scientific training of art-pedagogical specialists.
