We show by magnetization that the material becomes antiferromagnetic at [ital T][sub [ital N]][similar to]190 K, but that a strong ferromagnetic moment develops below [ital T][sub [ital

It is found to be ferromagnetic with a Curie temperature of 129 K. The saturation moment is 0.35/% and the effective paramagnetic moment deduced from the Curie-Weiss law is 0.97/~b.

For small magnetic fields (3 kOe), NpAs2 is ferromagnetic up to TIC=18 K, antiferromagnetic from 28 K to TN=52 K, then paramagnetic. Both transitions are first order. When the applied field increases TIC is shifted towards TN. The antiferromagnetic phase disappears for H#62;30 kOe. The ferromagnetic range is characterized by a very large anisotropy. In the paramagnetic state, NpAs2 has an effective moment 1.88 muB.
