Large transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) were measured for pions produced in p↑p-collisions... more Large transverse single spin asymmetries (SSA) were measured for pions produced in p↑p-collisions up to RHIC energies. Sizeable SSA were also found in semiinclusive deep inelastic scattering (SIDIS). Theory can explain such spin effects by going beyond collinear leading-twist perturbative QCD (pQCD) to include transverse momentum dependent (TMD) distribution and fragmentation functions. One of the most interesting TMDs is the Sivers function, which provides information on the correlation between the transverse spin of the nucleon and the transverse momentum distributions of the partons in the nucleon. It is particularly intriguing that theory predicts the Sivers function will change sign from SIDIS to Drell-Yan (DY) production. A N DY is aiming to test that prediction and to establish requirements for future upgrades at RHIC to study DY production. The experiment configuration, achievements to date, status and plans are discussed.

The single diffraction dissociation process pp ~ (l~+Ir-) p has been studied at the CERN ISR at x... more The single diffraction dissociation process pp ~ (l~+Ir-) p has been studied at the CERN ISR at x/~ = 45 GeV and 0.1 <-t < 0.6 GeV 2. The reaction is dominated by nucleon resonance production: pp ~ pN(1520) and pp ~ pN(1688) with cross-sections (0.25 ± 0.08) mb and (0.56 ± 0.19) mb respectively.

The angular distribution of the polarization in r~-p exhibits the well known non sense double zer... more The angular distribution of the polarization in r~-p exhibits the well known non sense double zero at t =-0.6 (GeV/c) 2. The K-p and ~p results are compatible with exchange degeneracy for Itlr < 0'5 (GeV/c) 2. The energy dependence of the polarization P(t) in n-p and in K+p above 10 GeV/c incident momentum is compatible with interference between Pomeron and Regge poles. On the contrary, the polarization in pp elastic scattering decreases faster than ordinary Regge model predictions. This result can be explained by interference between non flip and flip amplitudes of the Pomeron, leading to negative values for the polarization.

The spin rotation parameter R in pp and n + p elastic scattering at 45 GeV/c has been measured at... more The spin rotation parameter R in pp and n + p elastic scattering at 45 GeV/c has been measured at the Serpukhov accelerator, for It l ranging from 0.2 to 0.5 (GeV/c) 2. The results are presented, together with previous R measurements at lower energies, and are compared with the predictions of Regge pole models. The equality of the values for R in proton-proton and pion-proton scattering, within the experimental errors, is a test of factorization of the residues. An s-channel helicity amplitude analysis for pion-nucleon scattering at 40 GeV/c is made using all available data, Significant results are obtained for the isoscalar exchange amplitudes. The helicity flip in isoscMar exchange is non negligible. The energy dependence of this amplitude, at 6, 16 and 40 GeV/c, is compared with predictions of Regge pole models.
