Magnetic mineralogy among the primary bed rocks or within the sedimentary sequence considerably affect the responses of gravity and magnetic methods. En Nuhud Basin is structural depression as a half-graben produced by displacement along a system of faults. Gravity measurements give a sense of that the area was dissected by different fault trends of NNW-SSE and E-W trends, with down throws towards the center of the basin, and variable magnitudes of displacement. The thickness of the sediments occupying the basin vary from few meters at the periphery of the basin to about 1000 meters at the southern parts. The water saturated zones in the Nubian Formation show good characteristics and a thickness range from 12- 140 m. The weathered Basement Complex is sometimes serve as aguiferous zone.

Regional and small scalesexploration was carried out in the sand dunes of Abu Dalam El Ama,Bara Locality to find quartz sands occurrences to cover most of thegeologically favorable areas. During the field visits, quartz sand samples were collected from 12 points of the area. Ten representative samples were collected from the Abu Dalam area and were tested for their suitability to be used as raw materials for different industrial uses. The suitability of quartz sand deposits from the Abu Dalam area, Bara Locality for commercial glass production were assessed based on the chemical and physical properties. Tests were carried out at the University of Kordofan, Sudan, and the Geological Research Authority of Sudan (GRAS). The chemical analysis was carried using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The particle size was carried out using a mechanical shaker (sieving method). The quar...
Physico-chemical characteristics of groundwater are measured in situ in water samples ... more Physico-chemical characteristics of groundwater are measured in situ in water samples from existing wells and water samples were collected for subsequent chemical analysis. Generally the water in En Nuhud Basin is characterized by low mineralization with respect to the WHO and Sudanese regulation limits for drinking water; anomalous values were observed at Abu Dagal in the western part which interpreted as related to high clay content within the saturated zones. The concentrations of the different chemical constituents usually decrease inwards in a manner indicates recharge potentials from the boundaries and from surface drainage within the basin area. The dominant types of water quality in the study area are: [Ca (Mg) Hco3], [Ca (Mg) Cl(No3, So4)] and [Na HCO3] type. In view of the quality tolerances for industrial process, some water samples not suit many of these processes; due to relatively high alkalinity, ...

The Supracrustal metasediments mica schist and lenticular lenses of amphibolites overlies uncomfortable these gneisses and migmatites. The acidic intrusive felsite and quartzite intruded due to the regional dynamic metamorphism. Theamphibolite rocks indicated different petrogenesis displaying three mineral generations confirmed the polymetamorphism. The first cycle of metamorphism represented by the oldest units, is of medium- to high-grade. This cycle associated by NW-SW, NE-SW trending fractures. The second cycle affects the pile and the Supracrustal metasediments; is of low-grade metamorphism grade. The third cycle which of dynamic nature affected all sequence units in the study area, is of greenschist facies conditions, generated the deformational shearing episode with NE-SW, NNE-SSW and rarely NW-SE and N-S trend. The relationships between the metamorphism and structures in the area app...

The study aims to evaluate the hydrogeological environment and to highlight the critical factors that affect groundwater occurrence in En Nuhud basin. Integration of borehole data with geophysical investigations, in addition to pumping tests was used to achieve the mentioned objectives. The main and hydrogeologically important unit in the study area is the Nubian Sandstone Formation; conglomerates and sandstones represent the main distinguishable aquifers. Basement Complex when it is weathered enough to form secondary porosity and when it is close to the upper saturated sediments, serves the purpose of circulating and accumulating groundwater. Generally the depth of productive wells in the area ranges from 90 to 410 m and mostly the drilled wells within the sedimentary sequence less than 100 m are failed. No Perched water is recorded due to the high permeability of the up...
