Lot has been said and studied about it but yet society is not free from these stigmas. The division of society on the basis of class, caste, and gender has hindered the progress of society at the same time has treated the lowest castes also known as Dalits or former 'Untouchables' as underdogs and have tremendously ill-treated this section in the society. The mainstream has made them marginalized and unheard. Dalit women are triple victims and are the most sufferers in Indian community. Though the Indian Constitution talks about equality, freedom, and justice to all Indian Citizens, irrespective of caste, class, creed, religion, and sex there are many who are not privileged for the same. This research paper focuses on the understanding of class and caste system with addition to Dalit women as the triple victim of class, caste, and gender with the background of social structure in India and Dalit and Non-Dalit writers unveiling their plight and sufferings. Select works of major writers such as Mulk Raj Anand, Munshi Premchand, Mahasweta Devi, Urmila Pawar, will be considered for this research. The research makes the unheard voice of Dalit women reach the masses and ignite the spark of justice and respect for them in society.

Unpublished, 2008

A Nobel laureate for literature in 1993, she has established her reputation as an important commentator on the plight of black women in America. She is an artist first and foremost and her artistic pursuits are always combined with the issues concerned with her community, women in particular. She is well aware of Bell Hook’s question to white women – “Ain’t I a woman ?” and goes on delineating a picture of herself, through the characters in her novels, as marginalized and neglected species. All her protagonists live in search of identity. From The Bluest Eye to Love the last novel she wrote – struggling against the prevalent ideology, and through hostile circumstances and are often defeated as victims, Morrison, however, does not take extreme stand. Though her characters are mutilated by the discriminatory norms in American Society, they are not angry or aggressive. On the other hand, they reveal broader understanding towards the white race and towards their own male folk, Morrison, as a novelist draws a very miserable picture of black women in America in novels like The Bluest Eye, Tar Baby, Beloved etc. and effectively show that they are the victims of racism and sexism at the same time.
The present thesis is an attempt to interpret the novels of Toni Morrison in the light of black feminism. Black Feminism, however, works differently at the hands of different artists, Toni Morrison adopts a liberal stand. After treatment of the characters in the novels make her more ‘womanist’ then ‘feminist’ in a sense that they suffer in silence and reconcile to the fate. Nevertheless Morrison’s portrayal of these characters clearly shows that they are in search of dual identity, being black and women at the same time.

Indian Traditions are preserved in the "Natyasastra", the oldest text of the theory of drama as the western world is Aristotle's "Poetics". History of Indian drama elaborates majestically about Bharata setting out a detailed theory of drama. According to Bharata poetry, dance and mime in life's play produce emotion but it is only drama which produced flavor (Rasa). The drama uses the eight basic emotions-love, pity, anger, disgust, heroism, awe, terror and comedy that generally inspire the audience. While in the western canon only two principle forms of drama-tragedy and comedy are recognized. Sanskrit theorists describe ten kinds of dramatic forms-Nataka, Prakarana Bhane, Vyayoga, Samavakara, Dima, Ihamriga, Anka, Vrithi and Prahasana. The paper will trace the development of Indian Drama in English from pre-independence to contemporary time. Along with the playwrights the paper in short will focus on the various themes and aspects covered by different playwrights.

He was a moral and spiritual leader, whose books were noted as much for their ethical dimension as for their aesthetic qualities. Solzhenitsyn's moral authority was not easily earned. It was the fruit, in part, of bitter personal experience in Stalin's labor camps. But the lessons he drew from his experience, and the manner in which he voiced the sufferings of three generations of Soviet victims in powerful novels such as One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich, Cancer Ward, and The First Circle secured for him the role of conscience of the nation Later, his The Gulag Archipelago showed unmatched physical and moral courage in depicting a torrential narrative mixing history, politics, autobiography, documentary, corrosive personal comment and philosophical speculation into one of the most extraordinary epics of 20th-century literature. Gulag was a system of places of confinement where there were many violations of human rights. It is the Russian acronym for The Chief Administration of Corrective Labor Camps and Colonies of the Soviet Secret Police and is nowadays a vivid symbol of the lawlessness, slave labor and tyranny of the Stalin era. Gulag had a great impact on the minds of those who have undergone imprisonment and also on the thinkers who wanted to eradicate it from its root and make aware the entire humanity its disastrous consequences in the life of Russians. This paper is an attempt to focus on the writings of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn and other writers such as Fyodor Dostoevsky, Alexander Dolgun and also women writers who have dared to write on such issues. Among them are Anna Larina, Evgeniia Ginzburg and others.

As writers are incomplete without readers thus it becomes very important for them to ponder on whether they are working towards creating a more inclusive democratic ethos and environment for their society or making them more open-minded and open-hearted, more tolerant and progressive in thinking and action. Eminent Naga Poetess and Novelist, Easterine Kire (Iralu), in one of the conference keynote address said that colonization of Naga people by the British and then by the Indian forces have affected the mentality of the Nagas, causing them to compare themselves to others and perceive a victimized identity. Easterine Kire's A Terrible Matriarchy, is a story of Naga women revolving around three generations: Grandmother, Mother and Dielieno the protagonist. Grandmother Vibano influenced by patriarchy has gained a respectable status of a matriarch by serving the men folk of her clan. She takes charge of her five-year old granddaughter Dielieno to prune her confident and inquisitive nature into a hardworking and docile one so that she too can be a dutiful wife in future and carry on matriarch tradition with honor. On the other hand Grandmother showers her extra love, care and fondness towards her grandsons. As the novel progresses it gets revealed that the society is male's inheritance and this is the only reason behind Grandmother's biased behavior. However, economic insecurity is another important factor behind the suppression of the Naga women. Further there are also other subtle socio-political related to the male dominancy. The paper will focus on the above issues and try to fathom the mechanism of patriarchy which gets an impetus during the colonial and postcolonial era, highlight the socio-political conditions that strengthen the matrix of patriarchy and increase the sufferings of Naga women who, as the patriarchal matriarchs of the society, unwittingly contribute to their own exploitation.

Shakespearean tragic hero is the only and the one in the play belonging to royal or noble class; however, there is at least one character near him which is also highlighted. In his tragedies, male characters have a dominant role and female characters, although unforgettable, usually play little action. On the other hand Miller's tragedy is the tragedy of common man. He argues that tragedy is a genre that is just applicable to normal characters or common man. In Hamlet tragedy is the result of the main character's unrealistic ideals and his inability to overcome his weakness of indecisiveness. In Death of a Salesman tragedy is the result of man struggling to hold dignity he has left in a changing society that no longer values in which he believes. The paper will focus on the concept of the tragic heroes by Shakespeare and Miller and their similar and different views. Further the paper will elaborate the ideas and perception of the tragic heroes, struggle in isolation which leads to their downfall, and the changes brought out in the character meeting their ultimate destiny.
