The staircase/stair-stepping effect causes wrapping, shrinkage, and surface roughness in additive... more The staircase/stair-stepping effect causes wrapping, shrinkage, and surface roughness in additively manufactured (AM) parts. Consequently, abrasive flow finishing (AFF) or abrasive flow machining (AFM) may be employed to improve the AM part surface finish. This study developed an environmentally friendly AFM media using rice husk ash as base material, waste vegetable oil as a liquid synthesizer, and natural additives, i.e. glycerin. The new newly developed rice husk ash-based AFM media (HSAFM) characterization was done using Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectroscopic method and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). AFM medium viscosity was optimized using a Taguchi design ([Formula: see text]). These FDM-printed extrusions die inserts were finished using optimized AFM media in a one-way AFM system. A new AFM fixture with a mandrel guide was developed to direct media flow inside the die cavity to ensure uniform finishing. Experimental research has been done on finishing the FDM-prin...

The production of nano-scaled materials can be done using several techniques; this paper discusses ball milling and chemical precipitation methods. As we talk about the properties of Ferro Fluids, the viscosity of these fluids can't be measured accurately under the subjection of an external magnetic field. In this connection, the designers modified the existing viscometer of Redwood to measure the Ferro Fluids' viscosity under static conditions. In that modified viscometer, some special arrangements can vary the magnetic field; by using that modified device, one can obtain the viscosity of Ferro Fluids.

Two series were created by combining silane treated nano-hydroxyapatite filler particles (wt.% of 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8) with foreign ceramic particles (alumina and titanium oxide). Each series consists of five compositions. For each dental composition, the amount of foreign ceramics (20 wt.%) remained constant. The dental composite samples were polymerized for 30 s on each side using a blue LED light. Thermo-mechanical and thermogravimetric analysis was performed at various temperatures range. At preliminary temperatures (30–40°C), the hybrid nano-hydroxyapatite-TiO2 dental composite filled with 8 wt.% nano-hydroxyapatite exhibited storage modulus (about 90 MPa) whereas nano-hydroxyapatite-Al2O3 dental composite filled with 8 ...

Computer vision provides image-based solutions to inspect and investigate the quality of the surf... more Computer vision provides image-based solutions to inspect and investigate the quality of the surface to be measured. For any components to execute their intended functions and operations, surface quality is considered equally significant to dimensional quality. Surface Roughness (Ra) is a widely recognized measure to evaluate and investigate the surface quality of machined parts. Various conventional methods and approaches to measure the surface roughness are not feasible and appropriate in industries claiming 100% inspection and examination because of the time and efforts involved in performing the measurement. However, Machine vision has emerged as the innovative approach to executing the surface roughness measurement. It can provide economic, automated, quick, and reliable solutions. This paper discusses the characterization of the surface texture of surfaces of traditional or non-traditional manufactured parts through a computer/machine vision approach and assessment of the surface characteristics, i.e., surface roughness, waviness, flatness, surface texture, etc., machine vision parameters. This paper will also discuss multiple machine vision techniques for different manufacturing processes to perform the surface characterization measurement.

This technology overcomes the various drawbacks of existing techniques and it becomes the most efficient approach. In the industrial sector, this technology is most important for individual designing products and extended with different functions. The performance of additively manufactured parts, on the other hand, is largely influenced by their surface integrity and dimensional accuracy. The surface integrity is an important issue because the additively manufactured products are affected by staircase effects resulting from layer-by-layer manufacturing. The rapid prototyping contains multiple methods such as VAT Photopolymerization and Poor surface quality is caused by the staircase effect in all additive manufacturing processes so therefore, the various post-processing efforts and controlling different process param...

The physical, mechanical and tribological properties of the composites, studied experimentally. Both nickel and titanium carbide reinforced composite assists in enhancing the mechanical and physical properties such as impact strength, flexural strength and hardness of ZA-27 alloy matrix. The most significant advantage of the nickel and titanium carbide reinforcement is found in sliding wear properties resulting in better properties of the composite. Various factors such as normal load, reinforcement, sliding distance and sliding velocity considered to optimize wear rate. From Taguchi analysis it has been observed that reinforcement content being the most significant factor in influencing the wear rate followed by the normal load, sliding distance while the least...
