The voltage regulation and the angular stability of the power system are improved with the help of STATCOM. A new standard controller for the STATCOM with a Supplemental Bandwidth Multiple Band Controller is used to improve the power supply voltage profile and to cushion the low frequency oscillation between zones. The selection of the wide area control signals is performed using the sensitivity of the eigenvalues expressed in terms of participation factor. The efficiency of the proposed scheme is tested in the IEEE 12 bus reference system to cover a wider range of operating conditions. The results of the simulation show that the proposed scheme stabilizes the system at multiple points of operation.

Operational Economics involving power generation and delivery can be subdivided as – Economic Load Dispatch and Unit Commitment. The main objective of Economic Load Dispatch is the process of allocating the required load demand between the available generation units such that the cost of generation is minimum. Furthermore, Unit Commitment is an optimization technique that determines the units that are feasible and should be committed over a period of time to serve the load demand at minimum operating cost, satisfying all plant and system constraints. The test system is also analyzed under 3phase symmetrical fault with its effect on generation. There exist various UC scheduling algorithms among which my research work is based on Dynamic Programming method which is robust in nature, takes less computation time and includes plant constraints like start-up cost, fuel cost etc...

The aim is to develop new and cost-effective solutions for injection of electrical power, generated by PV modules, into the grid. The proposed module must result in an inverter for use with a single PV module, approximately from 120 W to 160 W. The inverter should be made with economical specifications, high reliability and mass-production in mind. The project will end up with an inverter, which can be bulk-produced within short time. The proposed work lies in extracting maximum harvestable power from a Photovoltaic module and use the energy for a DC application as well as the grid connection of the generated power so that the surplus power unutilised in the load can be transferred to the grid. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), use of Boost converter and the importance of bridge inverter have been the main investigation in this project. Also the grid connection along with supply to a three ph...

Therefore, each supplier and large consumer will bid strategically for choosing the bidding coefficients to counter the competitors bidding strategy. In this paper, bidding strategy problem is modeled as an optimization problem and solved using a novel algorithm based on social behavior PSO. PSO is an optimization algorithm inspired on fish schooling. Therefore the proposed method overcomes the short comings of selection of operators and premature convergence of other optimization techniques like Genetic Algorithm (GA). The proposed method tested with numerical examples, and its results compared with other existing methods. The result shows that PSO gives better results and takes less computational time and producing higher profits.

With the rapid development of solar cell fabrication technology, the reliability and cost has come down so as to be competitive with the other renewable energy source counterparts. India is blessed with rich solar energy and if exploited efficiently, the country has the potential of producing trillion-kilowatts of electricity. Sunlight is converted to electricity directly when made to fall on solar photovoltaic (SPV) modules.Systems /devices are made for various applications based on SPV modules connected with suitably designed power conditioning units for meeting electricity requirements. Almost the power from the conventional energy sources are becoming so less some of the examples of the conventional energy sources are (coal, lignite, oil, and gases). So most of them looking in forward for the power from green or renewable based energies like solar, wind, tidal, biomass etc. which does not cause any pollution to the environment. There is an increasing demand for the utilization of renewable energy sources such as PV modules. Integrating the power from the photovoltaic (PV) module into the existing power distribution infrastructure is achieved using power conditioning systems (PCS). The dc–dc conversion stage of the PCS requires a high efficient and high boost ratio dc–dc converter to increase the low dc input voltage from the PV panel to a higher dc vol...
Transmission wheeling pricing is one of the decisive aspects of present open access electricity m... more Transmission wheeling pricing is one of the decisive aspects of present open access electricity market. Various methods are available for transmission; however, no method is proved to diverse operating conditions of power system. These methods are not able to quantify the full recovery of embedded cost. All the variables i.e. remaining charges, used circuit capacity are not counted in the existing methods. This Paper explicates two methods, Modified Amp – Mile method and MVA Utility Factor method, to recover embedded cost. Modified Amp-Mile method is customized form of existing Amp-Mile method. In the MVA Utility Factor method, cost allocation is based on marginal participation (MP). It evaluates the cost, using sensitivity analysis of network power. The proposed methods are tested on an IEEE 6 bus system and further verified on Hadoti region real 37 bus system. All the results are presented in Full Recovery Model (FRM) and Partial Recovery Model (PRM).

By carrying the advantages of Amp-Mile method and eradicating limitations this work promotes non-linear sensitivity (utility factors) in conjunction with dispersed slack bus concept to allocate embedded cost of EHV (Extra High Voltage) networks by introducing a correction in algorithm of base method. Several methodologies and algorithms were proposed for addressing these issues. In this paper, a power flow tracing based method is proposed, which involves Matrices methodology for the transmission usage and loss allocation for generators and demands. After usage and loss allocation, its cost is allocated to generators and loads. This method provides loss allocation in a direct way because all the computation was previously done for usage allocation. Further transmission reliability margin allocation is done under normal and contingency condition. An N-1 reliability criterion is considered for contingency analysis. After usage and loss allocation, cooperative game theory is applied for finding efficient economic signals. Nucleolus and Shapely value approach is used for optimal allocation of results. This paper proposes a Discrete Fast Walsh-Hadamard Transform (DFWHT)-based fault detection/categorization technique together with near-end relay faults, far-end relay faults, evolving faults, high-resistance faults, and two-location faults. The DFWHT-technique has been developed for symmetrical and unsymmetrical shunt fault identification/categorization utilizing the Bus-X recorded fault data of WTCSCTL. The three-phase currents only have been used here. The DFWHT-technique is examined among modifications in fault type, fault switching time, fault position, ground and fault resistances, NERFs, FERFs, EFs, HRFs, and TLFs. The simulation outcomes illustrated that all types of symmetrical and unsymmetrical shunt faults are detected/categorized successfully.

In the existing Low Voltage Distribution System (LVDS) where the consumer loads are supplied from a single large capacity transformer and the loads are not uniformly distributed from the Starting bus to the Tail End bus. The existing 415 V distribution system with single 315KVA transformer is considered for analysis and comparison of distribution loss reduction techniques. In this, the existing Low Voltage Distribution system of Ashoka Garden Bhopal M.P. Sub-Station Layout has been simulated with the help of ELECTRICAL TRANSIENT ANALYSIS PROGRAM (ETAP) software and the distribution losses and voltage profile of the system have been identified in order to improve efficiency of the distribution system. Further capacitor banks are used at load buses to supply reactive power demand of load to minimise distribution losses and to improve voltage profile of the system. Hence, to minimize the losses HVDS with some modifications is introduced to get the desired results. HVDS is implemented for the same number of consumers as in LVDS and distribution losses and voltage profile of the system is determined.
