Application of new drugs which could enhance the effectiveness of antidepressants drug and reduce side effects of their long-term use seems necessary. Citicoline is used as an effective chemical agent for improving the symptoms of some neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, in this survey, the application of citicoline as an adjuvant drug was evaluated in mice model of depression. A total of 180 adult NMRI male albino mice were used in this study. All groups were exposed to chronic unexpected mild stress (CUMS) followed by treatment with various doses of citalopram or/and citicoline or saline for 21 days. Sucrose preference (SP), open field (OF), and forced swimming test (FST) were applied to evaluate depression symptoms in the groups. The results indicated that only citicoline at the 5 mg/kg dose had shifted its status from being noneffective to become significantly effective in the co-administered group. The means of SP, OFT, and FST of the treatment groups were significantly different in favor of coadministered group compared with the other groups as well as the control group. Based on the results, it can be concluded that administration of citicoline, as an adjuvant drug, in combination with citalopram, enhanced the effectiveness of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) drugs for depression treatment.

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) intervention on emotion regulation and glycemic control of patients with type 2 diabetes. Materials and Methods. Sixty patients with type 2 diabetes were recruited for this randomized controlled trial from an outpatient clinic at Imam Hospital in Iran. The intervention group participated in 8 sessions of MBSR, and the control group continued the treatment as usual. Fasting blood sugar and HbA1c were measured as two indices of glycemic control. Overall mental health, depression, and anxiety were measured using the General Health Questionnaire (GHQ-28), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS), and Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS), respectively. All the assessments were performed at baseline and after 8 weeks and 3 months as follow-up. Results. In comparison with the control group, the MBSR intervention group showed a significant reduction on all outcome measures including FBS, ...

"If miracles do not happen the rest of your life, what would you do?" The group was videotaped and the manuscripts were encoded and analyzed by the researchers. Findings: The members in the second group were more conscientious about themselves and their families. Instead of saying "I will inject enough heroin to fly me to the heaven." They would talk more about bringing something to their family. They were also determined to contribute more to their communities. To live a happy life was not as important as it was in the first group. Conclusions: Building healthy ways to have fun, improving empathy for others, and re-deciding their life, were found to be the most meaningful outcomes for the second group.

In addition, in spite of the significant increase in life expectancy, the age of participants in these studies does not extend beyond a mean age of 70 years. This study was thus designed to examine the relationship between physical fitness and function in multiple neurocognitive domains in subjects older than those previously reported. Methods: Thirty-eight individuals, aged 65.3 to 85.3 years, performed a graded, progressive, maximal exercise test. Based on a median score of peak VO 2 , participants were divided into lowfitness and moderately-fit groups. Cognitive function was assessed by means of a computerized neuropsychological battery. Results: The moderately-fit group achieved significantly better scores on the global cognitive score (U = 97, p = 0.04), and a significant correlation was found between peak VO 2 and attention, executive function, and global cognitive score (r s = 0.37, 0.39, 0.38 respectively). The trend for superior cognitive scores in the moderate-fitness compared to the low-fitness groups was unequivocal, both in terms of accuracy and reaction time. Conclusion: Maintenance of higher levels of cardiovascular fitness may help protect against cognitive deterioration, even at an advanced age. An adequately powered randomized controlled trial should be performed to further evaluate this hypothesis.

Results: VAS-A scores at baseline were higher on PGB (70.2) compared to ALP (57.4) or PBO (64.1). On a mixed-model analysis, VAS-A improvement slopes were greater for PGB (t¼-2.47; P¼0.014) and ALP (t¼-2.39; P¼0.018) vs PBO. Significant improvement on TOAS was seen at hour 2 and hour 3 through endpoint for ALP and PGB subjects, respectively (P0.05 vs PBO, both groups). VAS-S scores were significantly higher vs PBO for PGB at hours 2.5-4.0, and at hours 2 until endpoint for ALP (P0.05 both groups). Spearman analysis showed similar levels of correlation between the TOAS and VAS-S (r¼ +0.58) and VAS-A (r¼-0.50), suggesting that the VAS-S may be measuring an efficacy outcome in this model. Both PGB and ALP were well-tolerated. Conclusion: Clinically meaningful anxiolytic effect occurred within 3-4 hours after single-dose PGB in this dental-anxiety model.

Mean HAM-D item 1 scores (overall baseline mean, 3.03) were significantly reduced versus placebo (À1.07) by quetiapine XR 150mg/day, 300mg/day (À1.49, À1.56, respectively, p 0.001) and duloxetine (À1.53, p<0.001). Incidence of serious AEs were low (2%) in all groups. Most common AEs (>10%) were dry mouth, sedation, somnolence, dizziness, headache and nausea with quetiapine; dizziness and headache with placebo; and dry mouth, sedation, somnolence, dizziness, headache, constipation, nausea, diarrhoea and insomnia with duloxetine. Most AEs were mild-to-moderate in intensity. Conclusion: Quetiapine XR monotherapy at 150 and 300mg/day was effective and well tolerated in the treatment of patients with MDD.
