According to the HADS scale, anxiety disorders of a high degree were established in 60% of the clients of a nursing home and 19.7% who live in their own homes. Clinical severity of depression was noted in 58.2% of cases in the nursing home and in 11.5% in their own homes. High and moderate levels of state and trait anxiety also prevailed among the clients of the nursing home. This was accompanied by an increased risk of signs of cognitive deficit and manifestations of dementia, which is confirmed by the correlation between the degree of severity of anxiety–depressive disorders and the indicators of psychological status on the MMSE scale.

Investigating nursing students’ perceptions of their future profession could help in the design of education and the retention of nurses.AimTo compare nursing students’ perceptions of the professional nurse's role between Belarus, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden.MethodA cross‐sectional design was implemented. The study used two scales of the Professional Nursing Image Survey, which has questions about 10 skills and abilities and 14 functions and duties of a nurse.ResultsA total of 392 final‐year nursing students in four countries participated in the study. Statistically significant differences were found between countries in terms of all 10 skills and abilities and in the distribution of responses concerning functions and duties of a nurse.ConclusionsNursing students in Belarus, Lit...

When considering long-term survival, there is substantial evidence that the neoadjuvant therapy is superior to the primary surgical approach with postoperative radiation. Both treatment concepts, however, have a strong impact on the quality of life.

Allergic diseases and respiratory symptoms in urban and rural children in Grodno Region (Belarus). Pediatr Allergy Immunol 2012: 23: 339–346.Background: Because of the unknown frequency of asthma and other common allergic diseases in children living in Belarus, we conducted a population‐based respiratory health survey. The objective of the study was to estimate the prevalence of allergic diseases and major allergic symptoms in children of the Grodno Region (Western Belarus) and to examine their familial and environmental correlates. Methods: The cross‐sectional study was conducted in 2010 and included 2606 urban and 2422 rural children aged 6–16 years. Physician‐diagnosed respiratory diseases and symptoms were ascertained using the ISAAC questionnaire completed by the parents. Both family and environmental factors were examined for their association with respiratory health outcomes including asthma and ...

These changes cause pain and joint deformities. Pharmacists can assess patients’ quality of life, which can be a good criterion for assessing analgesics treatment effectiveness and prevent the growing phenomenon of polypharmacy and self-treatment. Purpose: To answer these questions: 1) Is there a relationship between the quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis taking analgesics and those with osteoarthritis taking analgesics and implemented rehabilitation? 2) Do patients using analgesics practice polypharmacy? 3) Are patients with osteoarthritis the main consumers of painkillers? and 4) Does the use of analgesics affect the health-related quality of life of patients with osteoarthritis? Materials and methods: The study was conducted on 240 people who were divided into three groups: osteoarthritis, reference (generally healthy, occasionally taking analgesics), and control (generally healthy, no int...

Material and methods: The study was conducted among women over 40 years of age, from Poland (241), Belorussia (119), Greece (100), and Belgium (79). For the purpose of this research, the Polish, Russian, Belgian and Greek versions of the MRS were used. The MRS Scoring scheme is simple, i.e. the score increases point by point with the increasing severity of subjectively perceived symptoms for each of the 11 items (severity 0--no complaints, 4 scoring points--severe). The respondent provides her perception by checking one of 5 possible boxes of "severity" for each of the items. Results: Mild or no complaints were reported to a similar extent by all women from these four countries. The intensity of the psychological symptoms was similar for the studied countries and did not differ significantly (P = 0.1531). Similar results we found in the somatic symptoms among the studied groups (P = 0.1421). A significant difference in the urogenital and sexual symptoms between Belgian and Belorussian women (P<0.001) was found. The frequency of menopausal symptoms was found to be significantly (P = 0.0381) higher among Belgian women in comparison to Belorussian ones. Conclusions: We found some differences between the menopausal complaints reported by women from Belgium, Belarus, Greece and Poland. Belgian women exhibited a more impaired quality of life due to a higher rate and severity of urogenital and sexual symptoms.
