Specifically, this item together with the 29 children is the famous Arabic medieval dictionary al-qāmūs l-muḥīṭ. It was compiled by the Persian lexicographer Al-fīrūz’ābādī. It belongs to lexicographical tradition and it is divided in sections (in Arabic bāb). Each section is devoted to an alphabetical consonant constituting the last radical consonant and is divided into chapters (in Arabic faṣl) ordered according to the first radical consonant. Each chapter (faṣl) is also divided into various parts gathering root family i.e. all lexical entries that have same root. In each chapter, roots are listed alphabetically according to the second radical consonant. Finally, lexical entries are grouped together under the root from which are derived. In the version uploaded, we adopted the original division based upon sections. Each section contains a text file and various XML files. The text file is the original plain text along with the macro (and micro) structure of the medieval dictionary: sections, chapters, roots, lexical entries and so on. There are two main types of XML files. One type contains the conversion of the plain text into a well formed XML document arranged according to the part of speech (verbs, noun, adjectives, proper nouns) of the lexical entry, while the other adds English translation of the lexical entries. In this respect, we propose an automatic stereotypical motor movement detection system in real time. Firstly, we use the Kinect sensor to monitor the child's with autism movements. Secondly, we propose a data integration process to make the provided data from Kinect sensor more comprehensive and specific. Thirdly, we perform the gesture detection by using the well know machine learning algorithms such as decision tree, artificial neural network and nearest neighbour. The obtained result is very promising and shows that the data integration step enhances the gesture recognition. The experimental results show that our system can achieve above 99.8% recognition rate. Also, we evaluate the efficiency of different machine learning algorithms in recognition tasks.

It is only in the last two decades that this field was being exploited, due to the complexity of Arabic writing and the fact that it demands a critical step which is segmentation; first from text to lines, then from lines to words and finally from words to characters. In case of historical documents, the segmentation is more complicated because of the absence of writing rules and the poor quality of documents. In this paper we present a projection-based technique for the segmentation of text into lines of ancient Arabic documents. To override the problem of overlapping and touching lines which is the most challenging problem facing the segmentation systems, firstly, pre-processing operations are applied for binarization and noise reduction. Secondly a skew correction technique is proposed beside a space following algorithm which is performed to separate lines from each other. The segmentation method is applied on four representations of the text image, including an original binary image and other three representations obtained by transforming the input image into: (1) smeared image with RLSA algorithm, (2) up-to-down transitions, (3) smoothed image by gaussian filter. The obtained results are promising and they are compared in term of accuracy and time cost. These methods are evaluated on a private set of 129 historical documents images provided by Al-Qaraouiyine Library.

This method requires that the images in the database must have the whole principal geometric information, named 'spine' of the decor. In practice, it is difficult to respect this request. When the distance between the camera and the real scene (fresco in Zellij) is big, the whole spine is captured but the resolution of the image is bad. On the other hand, when this distance is small, the resolution is high but the spine is not completely captured. This motivates the use of the 'mosaicing' technique. The contribution of this work is the combination of the mosaicing and indexing techniques for the development of an Arabo-Moresque decor image retrieval system.

In this paper, we propose a method for face recognition using 3D depth information. The goal is to get minimum features and produce a good recognition rates. We extract 3D clouds points from 3d vrml face Database, then the nose tip for each sample is detected and considered as new origin of the coordinate system, Gaussian Hermite Moments are applied to characterize each individual and Back propagation neural network is applied for the recognition task. Experimental results shows that Gaussian Hermite moments with global depth information perform significantly better than another method based on local depth information, in this study we consider the case of using ratios of distances and angles between manually selected facial fiducial points.

Theory and experiment indicates the robustness of our solution.

Research paper thumbnail of Fuzzy similarity-based classification method for gender recognition using 3D facial images

International Journal of Biometrics

In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy similarity-based classification (FSBC) method for the task ... more In this paper, we propose a new fuzzy similarity-based classification (FSBC) method for the task of gender recognition. The proposed method characterises each individual by extracting geometrical features from a 3D facial image using pertinent radial curves. Our approach includes representing the extracted features using fuzzy sets to handle imprecision in its values. Also, the proposed FSBC method recognises the gender of a new person by evaluating his similarity to the male and female samples pre-set as gender representatives set, then we aggregate the obtained similarities to compute the scores of belonging to each gender. In the end, we ascribe to each new person the gender with the higher score. With the proposed method, two main advantages are obtained: First, we used the OWA operator and RIM quantifier to define the percentage of significant features for the similarity assessment. Second, the aggregation process was performed using compensatory operators to ensure the selected gender has high similarities. Experiments were conducted using FRAV3D database, by considering only one frontal pose in the gender representatives set. The obtained gender recognition rate of the proposed method was very promising compared to other classification method.

Hence, our aim is to put out a smart video surveillance system that facilitates the diagnosis of autism for doctors.

In this paper, we present a neural network system for face recognition. Feature vector based on Fourier Gabor filters is used as input of our classifier, which is a Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN). The input vector of the network will have large dimension, to reduce its feature subspace we investigate the use of the Random Projection as method of dimensionality reduction.
