Because the audio will eventually be compressed, a high-end, high-quality microphone is not necessary. We have also had good results using a much cheaper Griffin Lapel Mic with a Griffin iMic, which has a built in preamp. ...

The Effect of Two-dimensional and Stereoscopic Presentation on Middle School Students' Performance of Spatial Cognition Tasks

We recruited nineteen middle school students visiting a planetarium in a large Midwestern American city and analyzed their performance on a series of spatial cognition tasks in terms of response accuracy and task completion time. Results show that

Their sheer numbers are an important solution to problems such as weather and longitudinal gaps in coverage of the sky. However, they are also sophisti- cated professionals with experience and expertise in many high technology areas. They are just as willing to use their computer as their telescope to help professional astronomers. We present some ideas about how to leverage this untapped resource along with some examples and best practices.

We have developed a six-minute video presentation describing eclipsing binary stars, light curves, and the Citizen Sky project. Designed like a short movie trailer, the video can be shown at planetariums before their regular, feature shows or integrated into a longer presentation. The trailer

Our participants form teams of different, yet complementary skills that work together towards a common goal. Each team has a leader and a professional astronomer assigned to act as an advisor. In this work we explore the formation of teams, by what means they find research topics, and how they manage their collaborations. We acknowledge support from the NSF Informal Science Education Division under grant DRL-0840188, to the AAVSO and the University of Denver.
