The virus was discovered in 1975 in a group of healthy blood donors in the UK. 1 B19V, formally named primate Erythroparvovirus by the International Commission on Taxonomy of Viruses, 2 is an etiological agent of erythema infectiosum, a familiar childhood illness. Known as the tropism of B19V for erythroid progenitor cells, it is also associated with a wide range of moderate to severe clinical manifestations related to anemia, depending on the immunological and hematolog
