The phase diagrams are determined as a function of the ratio of bulk and surface transverse fields, the temperature and the transverse field of the surface. They show that the systems exhibit a variety of phase transitions. A dead layer is also obtained in a special region of space parameters.

It show that the phase only of the Fourier transform of input pattern is more effective and efficient for evaluation and discrimination of rotated target. A correlation coefficient between different pattern orientations is presented and an application of these transforms in optical pattern recognition is described.

Herein, we present an approach based on anisotropic scaling of the shapes of photonic crystals (PhCs) to overcome the diffraction limit and achieve controlled diffraction limit along the ΓX direction. Thus, we demonstrate that scaling the direction perpendicular to the wave’s propagation (y-direction) by 1/2 and 1/4 significantly improves the diffraction limit by two and four orders of magnitude, respectively. This approach opens up possibilities for high-frequency wave guiding in a cermet configuration, which was previously unachievable. Furthermore, we illustrate the existence of a quasi-bound state in the continuum (QBICs) in asymmetric dimer network-type photonic crystals (PhCs).

Theses resonant structures with a frequency range where the permeability is negative when inserted into a metal rods network that has a frequency range where the permittivity is negative give rise to some particular physical phenomena such as the inversion of the Doppler and Cerenkov effects, and also a medium with negative refraction index, the problem that often occurs is the overlapping frequency ranges, which is not always obvious. In this work, we will present a new shape of SRR that have an artificial magnetism behavior. We will show numerically in a parametric study one of the techniques which provide us the possibility to control the frequency response and hence to tune the negative bandwidth to meet need of the overlapping ranges. The losses by absorption are investigated. The effective parameters are calculated using the transfer matrix and Fresnel coefficients method.

Optical correlation is used to calculate iris and pupil areas with a digital simulation of the Vander Lugt correlator. This area term computation assists the model to define an initial contour and at a later stage, to calculate terms in the energy expression. In the proposed model, several reference images called filters of iris and pupil have been introduced. Applied to three iris database and iris motion video, the proposed model enables us to reach better segmentation and tracking accuracy performance of irises.

The first purpose of this study was to present a novel and automatic method for segmenting the iris tumors and detecting the corresponding areas changing along time. The second aim of this work was to investigate several recently published methods after being applied for the iris tumors segmentation. Methods: Our approach consists firstly in segmenting the iris region by using the Vander Lugt correlator based active contour method. Secondly, by treating only the iris region, a K-means clustering model was used to assign the tumorous tissue to one pixel-cluster. This model is quite sensitive to the center initialization and to the choice of the distance measure. To solve these problems, a proportional probability based approach was introduced for the cluster center initialization, and the impact of several distance measure was investigated. The proposed method and the different comparative methods were evaluated on two databases: the Eye Cancer and the Miles Research. Results: Results reported using several performance metrics reveal that the first step assures the detection of all iris tumors with an accuracy of 100%. Additionally, the proposed method yields better performance compared to the recently published methods.

Among these, twisting metamaterials and acoustical chirality are sample-size dependent. The purpose of this work is, first, to examine the mechanical performance of a new twisting cubic metamaterial. Then, we perform a comparative investigation of its twisting behavior using the finite element method on microstructure elements computation, a phenomenological model, and we compare them to Eringen micropolar continuum. Notably, the results of the three models are in good qualitative and quantitative agreements. Finally, a systematic comparison of dispersion relations was made for the continuum and for the microstructures with different sizes in unit cells as final proof of perfect mapping.

The absorption of electromagnetic radiation by gold nanoparticles at the nanometer scale is of pr... more The absorption of electromagnetic radiation by gold nanoparticles at the nanometer scale is of prime importance in several applications owing to the strong plasmon field at the surface. Further, the electron-phonon and phonon-phonon interactions converting the absorbed radiation into heat is vital for cancer cell imaging and photothermal therapy. In the present study, we report on a numerical investigation of gold nanorods bathing in a tumorous tissue. Moreover, emphasis is put on a numerical simulation of the plasmonic response of the gold nanorods and the effect of geometric parameters variation. The computations are done using a theoretical model where the Maxwell’s equations are solved in the frequency domain using the finite element method. The evaluation of the change in the frequency at maximum absorption as a function of geometric parameters is discussed. These results should guide design of optimized optical contrast agents for molecular imaging.

In this paper, we propose a novel architecture adapting the Optical Scanning Holography (OSH) to the detection of tumors regions in MRI. The proposed method combines an off-axis optical scan, performed by a heterodyne fringe pattern, and a MR image display ensured by a spatial light modulator. The output quadrature component of the scanned current is collected digitally. Hence, a high-precision distribution of biological tissues is extracted. Its maximum position is exactly the one of the tumor. Meanwhile, this position is used in an Active Contour Model (ACM) to perform a fast segmentation of the extent corresponding to the tumors. Several images of brain tumors from BRATS database, with tumors having different contrast and form, are used to test the proposed system. Parameters reverted by the optical process are used to investigate the detection performance. Further, in terms of tumor segmentation, the proposed OSH-ACM process has high performance metrics compared to some of recently published method. The underlying physics of the precision superiority, presented by the OSH-ACM, is the high-precision extraction of the abnormal tissue regions by the quadrature component of the scanned current.
