OFDM applications rely mainly on its ease of implementation, high data rates, and reduction of fading effects. The paper is concerned with the comparison of FFT and wavelet based OFDM techniques when used to transmit scalable video coded (SVC) signal over wireless channel. The wavelet based system uses Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), called here DWT-OFDM. A method is devised to order SVC layers so that the transmission bit rate (bandwidth) of the multiplexed systems can gain further scalability which assist in providing flexible bit rate selection in addition to the scalability in quality of the received video signal. Different bandwidths are considered in transmission of the video signal when transmitted over models of three standard wireless channels. The results have shown that the proposed arrangement of layered scalability for both DWT-OFDM and FFT-OFDM systems can withstand channel fading conditions and bandwidth limitations. FFT-OFDM system performed better than DWT-OFDM over the most transmission scenarios considered here.

The work here deals with a reconfigurable FPGA design using VHDL hardware description language to provide realization of frame synchronization and code group identification to be complied with the 3GPP

Research paper thumbnail of Improving Throughput Using Simple Network Coding

2011 Developments in E-systems Engineering, Dec 1, 2011

With network coding, intermediate nodes usually linearly encode packet's content and then send out packets that are linear combinations of previously received information. The present research gives an overview of network coding structure, benefits and challenges. A simple arrangement is proposed to implement and evaluate the performance of some network models using network coding. In the present work a packet based network coding rather than symbol based coding, is used. The throughput of the network coded system as compared to the case where coding is not used have shown an increase in throughput on the expense of slight increase in packets overhead. The coding gains in throughput obtained by network coding for the networks considered in the work are closed to the theoretical ones, limited by max-flow min-cut theorem, by about 3% over the same network without coding.

Polar coding is one of FEC schemes that has a very remarkable behavior and low decoding complexity as compared to other FEC schemes. Polar coding refers to polarizing a set of identical channels, from capacity perspective, to a new set of the same number of channels each one having a different capacity level. Efficient channels are the ones used for data transmission. This paper covers the code encoder\ decoder models, simulation tests were used to measure BER performance, code complexity and BW efficiency for polar codes, the latter results has been compared to the corresponding BER, complexity and BW efficiency of TCM, LDPC and Turbo codes. The paper also discussed the changing behavior of Polar codes that depends on the data transmission rate, as smaller the rate as better gets the performance. Finally system behavior has been tested over AWGN, fading and multipath fading channels.

The generations of wireless and mobile systems are introduced first together with the related standardization bodies. The 5G and NGN main requirements and features are then covered. This is followed by the main challenges driven by current networks such as Enhanced Mobile Broadband, Massive Internet of Things (IoT), and Critical Communications and Control. The 5G enabler technologies also introduced covering High Band Millimeter Wave, Advanced Antenna Technology, Efficient Modulation and Coding schemes, and Software-Based Networking. The edge computing and its effect on network performance in relation to Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) and Fog Computing issues are presented. The role of Software Defined Network (SDN) / Network Function Virtualization (NFV) in 5G and NGN is introduced with great value shift towards operations management and orchestration. ...

But this significant performance is not the same for all the spoken languages. The Arabic language is one of them. Arabic speech recognition is bounded to the lack of suitable datasets. Artificial intelligence algorithms have shown promising capabilities for Arabic speech recognition. Arabic is the official language of 22 countries, and it has been estimated that 400 million people speak the Arabic language worldwide. Speech disabilities have been one of the expanding problems in the last decades, even in kids. Some devices can be used to generate speech for those people. One of these devices is the Servox Digital Electro-Larynx (EL). In this research, we developed an autoencoder with a combination of long short-term memory (LSTM) and gated recurrent units (GRU) models to recognize recorded signals from Servox Digital EL Electro-Larynx. The proposed framework con...
