It is the most common disease of salivary gland, the symptoms of which develop as a consequence of obstruction of the duct secreting the saliva. It involves the submandibular gland predominantly though other major gland involvement has been reported. Management of the sialolithiasis usually entails exfoliation via milking, invasion of the duct of the associated gland or complete excision of the involved gland.

Dental implants eliminate the need of deriving support for a stable denture base from an otherwise dynamic mucosa also, in a partially edentulous cases where one or more teeth may require replacement it tends to avoid the adjacent teeth and focuses on deriving the support from the underlying bone mimicking as a close replica of natural tooth. As they gather momentum in rehabilitation, various authors have come across obstacles significant enough to discourage the use of an otherwise efficient modality and resort to conventional means. So to overcome these problems hybrid implants were used.

Moderate to severe occlusal discrepancies most often require combined orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery to attain the most stable results with optimal function and aesthetic outcomes. Orthognathic surgery is said to be the art and science of diagnosis, treatment planning and execution of treatment by combining orthodontic and oral and maxillofacial surgery to correct dentoosseous, musculoskeletal and soft tissue defects of maxilla and mandible, and the structures associated to them. Among the various orthognathic surgical procedures, genioplasty is one of the most widely performed surgical procedures used for correcting chin deformities. The term genioplasty is used to describe miscellaneous facial profile concerns starting from orthognathic surgery in conjunction to a facial symmetrical balancing procedure assisting wit...

Patients are diagnosed in the advanced stage when there is orbital invasion with abnormal ocular signs and symptoms. The standard treatment of maxillary sinus carcinoma is en bloc radical maxillectomy along with orbital exenteration, followed by postoperative adjuvant therapy. Orbital exenteration is used when the malignancy extends to the orbit in case of squamous/basal cell carcinoma. The aim of the current review is to provide an insight into the management of advanced maxillary carcinoma with orbital involvement in a 42-year-old male.

These tumors may have varied presentations ranging from a simple enchondroma to a high-grade osteo or chondrosarcoma. Owing to their membranous development they are reported to occur usually in the cartilage bearing areas of the jaws like condylar process of the mandible. This article is intended to present a rarest of rare case of enchondroma of the mandibular body which to the best knowledge of authors', is not reported in the literature so far.

Research paper thumbnail of Efficacy of hybrid implants in oral and maxillofacial surgery: A clinical prospective study

Materials and Methods: Twenty hybrid implants were placed in maxilla and mandible and the implants were assessed for pain, implant exposure, mobility, infection and wound dehiscence at first, third and sixth month postoperatively. Results: According to our study the statistical data showed that all the parameters which were seen clinically were nonsignificant. Conclusion: Hybrid implants being a new option in this field, our study provides a platform for further research with larger sample size with longer follow ups to be judgemental on their efficacy.

This prospective study was conducted on 20 patients diagnosed with cases of displaced mandibular anterior fractures treated with open reduction and internal fixation. The patients were then randomly allocated to either of two groups - Group A: two 2.5 mm stainless steel lag screws were placed in 10 patients. Group B: two 2.5 mm miniplates were placed in 10 patients for the fixation of fractures. Subsequent follow-up was done on the 1day, 1, 4, and 36week postoperatively. During every follow-up, patient was assessed clinically for infection, malocclusion, loosening of plate/screw, malunion/nonunion, and masticatory efficiency. Radiographs (orthopantogram) were taken preoperative, 1, 4, and 36postoperative week to compare the osteosynthesis between the two groups. Pain was objectively measured using a visual analog scale. The data collected was...

A working knowledge of the sort of problems these patients encounter is therefore vital to ensure that life-threatening injuries are recognized and treated in a timely pattern and that more minor associated injuries are not omitted. This article outlines the management of polytraumatized patients using the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) principles and highlights the areas of specific involvement of the engaged medical team.Advanced Trauma Life Support is generally regarded as the gold standard and is founded on a number of wellknown principles, but strict adherence to protocols may have its drawbacks when facial trauma co-exists. These can arise in the presence of either major or minor facial injuries, and oral and maxillofacial surgeons need to be aware of the potential problems.

A 3-month-old boy presenting with non-traumatic acute onset quadriparesis was found to have SEH on MRI scan. On further investigations, diagnosis of severe haemophilia A was confirmed. He responded well to conservative treatment with replacement of factor VIII without any need for surgical decompression. Neurological recovery was complete. We believe this is the youngest reported case of haemophilia presenting with spontaneous SEH. Another peculiarity of this case is absence of excessive bleeding due to forceps and vacuum application, circumcision and intramuscular injection, even in the presence of severe haemophilia. This case calls attention to the clinical features, radiological appearances and management options of this rare complication of SEH in people with haemophilia.

A case of neonate manifesting with recurrent Escherichia coli sepsis is presented here which turned out to be a classic galactosemia. No other common presenting features were observed in this infant except cataract on slit lamp examination. To the best of our knowledge, there is no case of galactosemia reported in literature which presented with recurrent neonatal sepsis without hepatomegaly, hyperbilirubinemia, bleeding disorder, vomiting, diarrhea, failure to thrive, hypoglycemia, coagulopathy, hemolysis or renal tubular acidosis.
