Fuel as known is used by virtually every human for one purpose or another. Fuel subsidy removal therefore has direct effects on every individual in various ways. However, the interest of this study is to examine the extent to which fuel subsidy removal affects the lives of rural dwellers in Nigeria. Secondary sources of data such as newspapers, journals, online materials among others were adopted to gather information for the research and Karl Marx’s social conflict theory was employed as basis to justify this concern. The study then concluded that fuel subsidy removal has negative effects on the lives of rural dwellers. It was recommended that the government should not remove subsidy on petroleum products. However, if fuel subsidy removal would be totally sustained, efforts should be made to provide adequate infrastructural facilities to improve the standa...

There are traditional institutions that have long been considered customary systems and valuable instruments for addressing different forms of conflict in Africa. But in the modern conflict world, different forms of institutions are designed to serve as a central mechanism in conflict resolutions, peacebuilding, peace-making, and peacekeeping. Sierra Leone, for instance, which experienced intense violent conflicts from 1991 to 2001, has evolved diverse conflict resolution mechanisms. These include reconciliation, negotiation, and to some extent reintegration. Amongst these integrated frameworks, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) stood out. The TRC was conceived as a key instrument that facilitated the reconciliation process. As a framework, the TRC targeted the victims, who were afforded the opportunity to express their concerns, particularly the atrocities committed against them and their loved ones in the course of the war. The paper thus examined the role of TRC and the challenges thereof in the sustenance of peace and stability in Sierra Leone. The data obtained through in-depth interviews and documents are analyzed qualitatively. The paper argues that sustainable peace and stability can only be achieved in divided societies through negotiations and reconciliation.

This is particularly more pronounced in both developed and emerging democracies. These institutions influence state's decisions and policies. They also shape public opinion on a wide range of political, economic, and socio-cultural issues. The objectives of NGOs, often serve as the driving force for their engagement with the state and society, which in some ways influence the political development of their societies. In Nigeria, there are numerous and religious, which are very active in the country's political process. Religious NGOs are, however, seen as the platform that contributes to tensions rather than dialogue and stability in Nigeria's political development. This paper interrogates this assumption with a particular reference to the Jamátul Izalatul Bida'a Waikamatus Sunnah (JIBWIS). Methodologically, qualitative method was used in data collection and analysis.

Many of these conflicts are related to crises of identities, struggles for resources and power contestations. A few of these conflicts escalate to self-determination, separatist movements, and secession. These conflicts mostly transcend national borders and trigger the alteration and redesigning of national borders, which itself becomes a source of continued violent conflicts across borders. For instance, the attainment of independence by South-Sudan in 2013 has raised hope in achieving peace and stability after one of the prolonged civil wars in Africa. Nevertheless, the new state of South Sudan has turned to a devil's domain. The internal conflicts in South Sudan have further aggravated the tensions in the region; in addition to the border disputes with Sudan. After the three years of political independence from Sudan, there is still no agreement over the 2,010-km border that divides the two nations. This paper thus examines the nature of border disputes between Sudan and South Sudan and the extent to which the border conflict influences the dynamics of internal conflicts in South Sudan and the implications for peace and stability in the region.
