This review discusses the present state of CCS research and development, the advantages of the various approaches, and the barriers to commercialization that exist today. It also provides an evaluation of certain practical small- and large-scale CCS applications. The high initial investment, as well as ongoing maintenance costs, plague today’s commercially accessible CO2 capture technologies, including absorption, adsorption, membranes, and cryogenic separation. Gas hydrate-based capture has the potential to become the dominant method for CO2 separation because of the high recovery rates and purity it provides. Hydrate-based technologies, including CO2 capture, CO2 separation, and transportation, can also be used to reduce greenhouse...

Objective: To define the severity and frequency of peripheral artery disease using ABI among patients undergoing coronary angioplasty. Methods: The cross-sectional study was conducted at department of adult cardiology Tabba Heart Institute Karachi, Pakistan. This research was conducted for the duration of 6 months from 10th Dec 2019 to 10th June 2020. 120 patients met the inclusion criteria. They were admitted to the department of adult Cardiology. In all cases, patient’s detailed history was taken after taking informed and written consent. The ankle brachial index (ABI) was calculated as per the operational definition to reach the outcome PAD and its severity. Results: A total of 120 patients undergoing coronary angioplasty were included. 89 (74.2%) were males & 31 (25.8%) were females with the mean age of 58.89+10.190 years. The PAD was seen in 9 p...

Research paper thumbnail of Synthesis, Applications and Swelling Properties of Poly (Sodium Acrylate-Coacrylamide) Based Superabsorbent Hydrogels

Journal of the chemical society of pakistan

Superabsorbent hydrogels constitute a group of polymeric materials with three-dimensional network... more Superabsorbent hydrogels constitute a group of polymeric materials with three-dimensional network structure, which can swell to absorb an enormous amount of water or aqueous solutions. This property enables various commercial applications of hydrogels such as water holding capability in agriculture and superabsorbent material for baby diapers. Several novel superabsorbent hydrogels based on acrylic acid-co-acrylamide copolymers were synthesized under variation of copolymer compositions through free radical polymerization. N,N’methylenebisacrylamide (MBA) was used as a water soluble crosslinker and potassium persulphate (KPS) as an initiator. Effect of varying the copolymer composition, change in crosslinker concentration, and effect of environmental parameters (pH, temperature, and ion concentration) on both swelling capacity and swelling rate were examined. These gel shows maximum swelling at neutral pH-7, whereas increasing salt concentration in water decrease the swelling capacit...

Research paper thumbnail of Predictive ecotoxicological modeling of ionic liquids using QSAR techniques: A mini review

Process Safety Progress, 2022

All living beings must be protected from the incessantly increasing environmental pollution cause... more All living beings must be protected from the incessantly increasing environmental pollution caused by hazardous chemicals. This imposes a serious obligation on the biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries to develop less harmful chemicals. Regarding the hazardous and harmful prospects of such chemicals, various initiatives have been taken globally. The concept of “green chemistry” is the most remarkable, which concentrates on the application of eco‐friendly chemicals. Although ionic liquids (ILs) are new chemicals, thay have recently gained much prominence because of their great importance. Recent research shows that they have many different applications, ranging from the specific performance tasks to chemistry with minimal environmental impact, and have earned the designation of “green chemicals.” However, studies have shown that ILs are toxic chemicals and can display extreme levels of toxicity. Likewise, they pose a high danger of bioaccumulation because of their struc...

Research paper thumbnail of Message Passing Framework for Globally Interconnected Clusters

Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 2011

Therefore the need of High Performance Computing (HPC) based implementation for interconnecting clusters is comprehensible for scalability of clusters. Grid computing provides global infrastructure of interconnecting clusters consisting of dispersed computing resources over the internet. On the other hand the leading model for HPC programming is Message Passing Interface (MPI). As compared to Grid computing, MPI is better suited for solving most of the complex computational problems. MPI itself is restricted to the single cluster. It does not support message passing over the internet to utilize the computing resources of different clusters in an optimal way. We propose a model that provides message passing capabilities between parallel applications over the internet. The proposed model is based on Architecture for Java Universal Message Passing (A-JUMP) framework and Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) named as High Performance Computing Bus. The HPC Bus is built using ActiveMQ. HPC Bus is responsible for communication and message passing in an asynchronous manner. Asynchronous mode of communication offers an assurance for message delivery as well as a fault tolerance mechanism for message passing. The idea presented in this paper effectively utilizes wide-area inter-cluster networks. It also provides scheduling, dynamic resource discovery and allocation, and sub-clustering of resources for different jobs. Performance analysis and the comparison study of the proposed framework with P2P-MPI are also presented in this paper.

Case Report: Early-generation stents were made from stainless steel and had a bulky design as compared to cobalt-chromium or platinum chromium alloys, which have superior trackability at the cost of a thin core and low-strength struts, resulting in increased incidence of longitudinal stent deformation. We present a case of a 62-year-old active smoker with effort angina of Canadian Cardiovascular Society (CCS) class III. His coronary angiogram revealed a totally occluded right coronary artery (RCA). After placing 2 coronary guidewires (Run-through and Balanced middle-weight), Xience Xpedition (3.25×48 mm) and Promus Element (2.75×32 mm) were deployed through the whole length of the RCA. While placing the distal stent, the guidewire securing the posterior left ventricular (PLV) was trapped between 2 stents and all attempted maneuvers were unsuccessful in retrieving the wire. The stents sustained longitudinal deformation by the guide catheter, and subsequent arteriotomy for stent and wire retrieval and coronary artery bypass graft surgery were (CABG) performed. Conclusions: Despite the remarkable safety profiles of the percutaneous equipment, complications still occur even with experienced operators. Calcified and tortuous vessels are primarily at risk for wire strangulation between stents or side-branches, and better deliverability of newer drug-eluting stents (DES) comes at the cost of reduced longitudinal strength.

Research paper thumbnail of Myocardial blush grade: a determinant of left ventricular ejection fraction and adverse outcomes in STEMI

Scottish Medical Journal, 2020

This obstruction can be graded using myocardial blush grade. We aimed to investigate the role of myocardial blush grade in ejection fraction and adverse outcomes, after percutaneous intervention.MethodsA prospective, observational study was conducted at our institute with a calculated sample size. Variables such as age, gender, and ejection fraction were noted before the intervention. The patients were followed for 3 months to determine the outcomes. The data was analyzed using IBM SPSS software version 26.0. P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant for the statistical tests.ResultsThere were 74 male and 36 female participants in the study. The mean age was 52.20 ± 10.02 years. The most common adverse outcome was heart failure (18%). There was a significant Pearson’s correlation between myocardial blush grade and improvement in ejection fraction (p < 0.05). Improvement in...
