This study compared the efficacy of two anesthetic solutions: 2% lidocaine with 1:80,000 epinephrine and 4% articaine with 1:100,000 epinephrine in patients with different pulp diagnoses requiring endodontic treatment. Method: an interventional, randomized clinical trial. The sample included 36 patients who were treated at the postgraduate endodontics service at the Universidad de Cartagena in the year 2016. Descriptive statistics and the Chi test were used for data analysis, using a limit of 0.05. Results: articaine showed a greater anesthetic effect in vestibular mucosa (88.9%) and tip of tongue (55.6%), compared with lidocaine. The rates of anesthetic success in the lidocaine and articaine groups were 5.6% and 22.2% respectively, but this difference was not statistically significant (p = 0.633). In teeth with normal pulp, the effic...

Methodology: an observational, descriptive, prospective study was conducted in 73 patients with verrucous lesions of the oral cavity, in which socio-demographic characteristics, clinical and histopathological diagnosis were determined, and high-risk DNA HPV genotypes 16 and 18 were identified, as well as 12 other high-risk genotypes (31, 33, 35, 39, 45, 51, 52, 56, 58, 59, 66 and 68), by means of the real-time multiplex PCR test. The study complied with legal and ethical standards. The results were analyzed using descriptive statistics with the Stata program v13.2. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty voluntary subjects received 1.8 milliliters of 2% lidocaine with 1:80,000 epinephrine. The researchers assessed the degree of pulpal anesthesia with an electronic pulp tester, puncture pain, soft-tissue anesthesia and patient comfort at this anesthesia, and start time and duration of anesthetic effect. The data was analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk, Mann-Whitney, and McNemar tests. RESULTS Deep pulpal anesthesia in the MSA technique was significantly higher when compared to the infraorbital technique in first and second premolars, the results being 95.2% and 100% respectively for the former technique and 66.7% and 42.9% respectively for the latter technique. The authors noted statistical significance in the perception of pain associate...

Given the causal factor the mucocele can be classified as mucous extravasation cyst or mucous retention cyst. Primarily affect the lower lip and appear as a nodule, translucent, circumscribed containing mucous or shows an elevation, the color of the overlying mucosa. The treatment consists of surgical resection of the lesion, including minor salivary glands affected. We report a case of a patient 18, who has deep mucocele, which was treated with surgical resection using a filling of silicone fluid in cystic cavity, which keeps the anatomic landmarks so you can make complete removal of the lesion and the affected glands.

The authors presented two clinical cases of patients with indication of dental extraction of the upper central incisor which was planned to use a two-armed lever as atraumatic alveolar preservation technique and managed in two different ways. Case one referred to a traditional approach that included dental extraction, guided bone regeneration, and provisionalization, with a period of healing of 6 months to enable the bone regeneration. Subsequently, it was placed a dental implant TSV 3.7*13 mm (Zimmer Dental). Five months after of clinical and radiographic controls, the second phase was started with the rehabilitation. The second case was about a patient who required dental extractions of maxillary left central incisor due to a fracture of the crown with a poor prognosis, in which the dental extraction was planned to use a two-armed ...

It is an outpatient technique, minimally invasive, with low risk of morbidity and low incidence of complications. The goal of the technique is to reduce the excessive gingival display during smile. Objective: to describe the LipStaT® technique including its indications, preoperative evaluation, surgical approach and patient post procedure care instructions. Clinical Cases: the authors present two female patients, aged 20 and 31 years, with excessive gingival display (over 3mm) and with experiences of failures with other procedures. The LipStaT® technique allowed to achieve aesthetic, harmonic and functional results. Conclusion: The LipStaT® technique is a safe outpatient procedure that allows to obtain predictable results, which are well accepted by patients.
