However, interruptions which sometimes may be unavoidable, tends to negate this trend. Identifying the problems will indeed enable the power utility companies to take the necessary steps in improving the reliability of the system. This paper used load point and customer-oriented reliability indices to evaluate the performance of the four distribution feeders within Ado-Ekiti metropolis, Nigeria, in order to identify the major causes of the frequent power supply outages and also suggested ways of improving its performance. Relevant outage data were collected from the supply utility-Benin Electricity Distribution Company of Nigeria (BEDC) daily operational logbooks from January 2021 to December 2021. Some of the data gathered were outage frequencies, fault durations, causes of outages, age of distribution transformers and number of customers on each of the feeders. Quantitative method of reliability indices was used to estimate and compare the performance of the feeders. The average availability (%) for the investigated period is 86.23%, 92.68%, 90.18% and 91.25% for Ajilosun, Basiri, Okesa and Adebayo feeders respectively. The results showed that almost all the feeders are not reliable. The study will enable the utility company in making informed decisions that will improve the reliability of the feeders and thereby facilitating effective monitoring to enhance optimum performance.

This work identified some obstacles inhibiting rapid renewable energy growth in Nigeria and recommended some policy measures in overcoming them. Moreover, a comparative study of off-grid (OG) and grid-connected (GC) small hydro-solar photovoltaic-diesel hybrid system was carried out using Oyan river, Abeokuta, Nigeria as a case study. The hybrid components were modeled with and without the grid. The hydro solar resources data of the area were collected and analyzed using hybrid optimization model for electric renewable (HOMER) software. The simulation results proved that the GC hybrid power system is better than the OG hybrid power system in technical and economic terms depending on the location. This paper, therefore, proposed the use of OG hybrid power system for electrification of distant villages especially where extending the grid seems infeasible and the use of GC hybrid power system in the urban areas. The work will assist power sector stakeholders in making informed decisions towards the growth of hybrid power system technology in Nigeria.

According to Cisco and others, it is estimated that in 2020, internet video traffic will account for 82 % of all consumer internet traffic. This research evalu- ated the feasibility of the 60 GHz to provide minimum data rate of about 970 Mbps from the Ethernet link limited or clamped to 1 Gbps. This translated to 97 % effi- ciency with respect to the IEEE 802.11ad system performance. For the first time, the author proposed the enhancement of millimetre wave propagation through the use of specular reflection in non-line-of-sight environment, providing at least 94 % bandwidth utilization. The increasing number of DG connected to the distribution system could have a significant impact on the power system operation. This paper presents a case study investigating the impact of grid-connected DG on the Nigerian power network in terms of bus voltages and network losses. The results showed that without DG, some of the bus voltage magnitudes of the test system were outside the permissible voltage limit of 0.95pu≤Vi≤1.05p.u. However, with DG connected, the voltage magnitudes were improved to allowable values. The network active power loss was reduced by 12.03% from 85.60MW to 75.30MW. In this way, the power system becomes more efficient and secured.

This offers opportunities for uncompressed video transmission and gigabit file transfer. However, compressed version of video data stream has advantages. This paper evaluates the performance of H.264 video transmission over IEEE 802.11ad wireless local area networks (WLANs). The work evaluates the delay, packet loss, overheads and video quality assessment using structural similarity index (SSIM). We demonstrated zero packet loss for multi-hop 802.11ad compressed video streaming by using 60 GHz bespoke chipset. This paper shows the feasibility and reliability of millimetre-wave multi-hop 802.11ad wireless video streaming for caching multimedia data.

When this occurs, the network becomes unreliable and its performance is severely affected by unexpected and frequent disconnections, loss of data, retransmissions, waste resources and increased latency. In this work, using commercial 802.11ad chipsets, we show that specular reflection has the potential to circumvent and prevent non-line-of-sight link failures during 60GHz millimetre wave propagation up to distance of 8m. The data rates presented shows the effectiveness of using specular reflection since utilization is at least 94% of the total bandwidth while less than 4% was either reflected back or absorbed.

Results shows that RSSI = -33.5 log d - 39 can be used to predict the relationship between distance and receive signal strength within the test bed Area.
