Using a variety of analytical tools including the trade-cost augmented gravity model, indices of trade complementarity and revealed comparative advantage, the paper demonstrates that FTA between Pakistan and the proposed RCEP will increase bilateral trade, on average, by a factor of 1.84. Trade complementarity indices reveal that Pakistan’s import pattern tends to match over time with the export pattern of RCEP countries indicating that Pakistan can benefit from sourcing its imports from the RCEP countries. Moreover, there exists significant potential for Pakistan’s trade expansion with ASEAN members as well as other potential trading partners in RCEP. Whereas Pakistan can export cotton, made-up textiles and clothing, fish, cereals, leather products, pharmaceutical products, sugar and sugar confectionary, and light engineering ma...

The recent work involves sample collection, growth culture, purification, and confirmation of bioleaching activity present in isolated strain with suitable evidence. The isolated Thiobacillus ferrooxidans bacteria showed the ability to decrease the pH of the medium during its growth along with the conversion of Fe (II) to Fe (III) state. The optimization of various parameters that affect the growth culture has been investigated suggesting the use of isolated bacterial strain for the production of sulphuric acid as well as for minerals leaching from respective ores and coal desulphurization.

This paper analyzes country-specific and industry-specific determinants of intra-industry trade (... more This paper analyzes country-specific and industry-specific determinants of intra-industry trade (IIT) between Pakistan and other SAARC countries using panel data techniques. This paper also disentangles total IIT into horizontal and vertical IIT. Vertical IIT is further divided into high-quality and low quality IIT. This paper finds that country-specific variables are more important in explaining IIT relative to industry-specific variables. Decomposition of IIT shows that in the SAARC region Pakistan’s IIT is mostly comprised of the vertical IIT and to a lesser extent is horizontal IIT. The paper offers specific policy recommendations for the promotion of IIT in the SAARC region.
