We demonstrate the presence of hydroxyapatite crystals existing in normal skeletal bone in all 6 heterotopic ossification samples analyzed by means of X-ray powder diffraction technique. The phenomenon of heterotopic ossification mineralization seems to be similar to that of normal skeletal bone mineralization.

This project was implemented by CUTS in four countries: Ghana, India, Philippines and Zambia, and across two common sectors: Staple Food and Bus Transport with the support from DFID (UK) and BMZ (Germany) facilitated by GIZ (Germany). The aim of the project was to highlight the relevance of competition reforms for social and economic welfare in developing countries, and motivate other countries, governments and development partners to accord greater attention to the subject of competition reforms. In view of this overall aim of the project, with inputs from the project advisers CUTS designed the final conference of the CREW project on a broader theme to talk about ‘Relevance of Competition & Regulatory Reforms in Pursuing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Developing Countries’. The theme w...

Research paper thumbnail of CP-140 Analysis of effectiveness, safety and adherence in patients switching to emtricitabine/rilpivirine/tenofovir: Abstract CP-140 Table 1

European Journal of Hospital Pharmacy, 2016

Purpose To analyse immunovirological effectiveness, viral load (VL) and CD4 cells, safety (lipid profile) and adherence to 24 weeks of therapy change to emtricitabine/rilpivirine/tenofovir (FTC/RPV/TDF) from a previous HAART option. Material and methods Observational and retrospective multicentre study. Included were all patients who switched to FTC/RPV/TDF during 2014 and continued with the new treatment for 24 weeks. HAART schemes previous to the change were identified, and the results analysed for VL, CD4 cells and lipid profile (total cholesterol (TC), high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL) and triglyceride levels (TG)). Previous HAART was grouped by therapeutic scheme: 2NRTI+1NNRTI, 2NRTI+1PI and 2NRTI+1 integrase inhibitor. The results were analysed globally and by subgroups (according to previous HAART) at baseline and at 24 weeks. We evaluated adherence pre and post-change, using records of dispensing (%adherence=total units dispensed/total units planned). Results We included 73 patients (54 men and 19 women) with an average age of 45 years. HAART schemes identified before the change: 44 patients 2NRTI+1NNRTI, 26 patients 2NRTI+1PI and 3 patients 2NRTI+1Integrase Inhibitor. 58 adherent patients and 15 non-adherent patients were detected, moreover 59 patients had negative VL and 14 positive VL. Following the change, adherence increased 18% (71 adherent and only 2 non-adherent) and VL became negative in all patients (except in the 2 non-adherent). Effectiveness and lipid profile results analysed globally and subgroups at baseline and at 24 weeks are shown in table 1.Abstract CP-140 Table 1 Baseline Week 24 CD4CD4 (2NRTI+1NNRTI)CD4 (2NRTI+1PI)CD4 (2NRTI+1II) 685/µl694/µl680/µl581/µl 737/µl729/µl745/µl781/µl TCTC (2NRTI+1NNRTI)TC (2NRTI+1PI)TC (2NRTI+1II) 180 mg/dL179 mg/dL182 mg/dL180 mg/dL 164 mg/dL164 mg/dL167 mg/dL205 mg/dL HDLHDL (2NRTI+1NNRTI)HDL (2NRTI+1PI)HDL (2NRTI+1II) 47 mg/dL45 mg/dL51 mg/dL44 mg/dL 41 mg/dL38 mg/dL43 mg/dL45 mg/dL LDLLDL (2NRTI+1NNRTI)LDL (2NRTI+1PI)LDL (2NRTI+1II) 107 mg/dL101 mg/dL118 mg/dL106 mg/dL 96 mg/dL97 mg/dL96 mg/dL74 mg/dL TGTG ((2NRTI+1NNRTI)TG (2NRTI+1PI)TG (2NRTI+1II) 182 mg/dL196 mg/dL163 mg/dL153 mg/dL 128 mg/dL139 mg/dL110 mg/dL121 mg/dL Conclusion The change to FTC/RPV/TDF improved adherence to treatment. At 24 weeks of switching to FTC/RPV/TDF the patients showed an excellent lipid profile and had good inmunovirological control. References and/or Acknowledgements Cohen C, et al. Beginning with a critical reflection on the export of „developmental states model‟ from Asia to Africa, this paper—which considers the emergence of developmental states—explores questions of increasing significance across Sub-Saharan Africa: What might “developmental states model” actually mean in post-colonial Africa? How much component does the concept of developmental states have? How can we relate this discussion about each developmental state within the wider debate about developmental states in Sub-Saharan Africa? How does it engage with local cultures and civil society? This article addresses these questions by providing the conceptual explanations of developmental states as well as their features, before considering the potency of culture and civil society. It further explains the conditions that favour the emergence of developmental state in Botswana. The article will argue that the c...
