Heterogeneous catalysis is preferred, however, e.g., because of environmental reasons and for avoiding a catalyst separation step from the product. Moreover, heterogeneous catalysis offers more opportunities to tune the product distribution and corresponding yields to the market demands, i.e., even-numbered, linear α-alkenes versus a high octane fuel blend hydrocarbon mixture [1]. The present work aims at developing an active, stable and selective catalyst for e...

In particular, we address the effect of the pore diameter of the support (varied between about 3 nm for MCM-41 and 10 nm for SBA-15), the dimensionality of the channels (1-D in MCM-41 and 3-D in MCM-48), the cobalt loading (from 10 to 40 wt%), and the addition of noble metals (Pt, Re) as promoters. In addition, we show the benefit of introducing small amounts of cerium in the structure of MCM-41 during the synthesis of the support on the stability of the catalyst against deactivation. The materials have been characterized by different techniques, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2 adsorption, temperature programmed reduction (TPR), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The catalytic results for the FTS can be well correlated with two mai...
