Similarly, casted workpieces were produced using single and double gating elements with circular (vortex free), square and rectangular runner and ingate profiles. Hardness (HV) and ultimate tensile strength (UTS) of the thick section prepared from single circular runner/ingate system was more in comparison to thin and thinnest sections extracted at respective heights. Similarly, hardness and tensile strengths of thick specimen prepared from double ingate/runner having circular shape was found greater in comparison to thin and thinnest sections accordingly. Tool wear monitoring is the key part of intelligent maintenance and has been attracting considera... more Tool wear monitoring is the key part of intelligent maintenance and has been attracting considerable interest. However, traditional data-driven methods assume that the collected data following identical distribution and the training data is sufficient, which is impractical in practice. This paper proposed a novel framework to realize tool wear monitoring across scenarios based on deep transfer learning. The collected multi-source heterogeneous signal is fused based on the feature self-extraction and selection capabilities of deep learning. Particularly, the feature extraction capability of convolutional neural networks (CNN) for structured data is improved by integrating traditional feature extraction methods. Furthermore, the transfer learning technique is introduced to migrate the pre-trained model from the source domain to the target domain, and thus achieving the tool wear monitoring across scenarios. The proposed framework was applied to the continuous cutting process of tools and the excellent experimental results demonstrated the effectiveness of the deep transfer learning network for tool wear monitoring with a small number of labeled data, which demonstrates the practicality of the proposed framework.

Industrial low voltage distribution network may be utilized for data transfer required by the on-line condition monitoring of electric motors. This paper presents a pilot distribution network for modeling low voltage power line as data transfer channel. The signal attenuation in communication channels in the pilot environment is presented and the analysis is done by varying the corresponding parameters for the signal attenuation.

The study is based on process information and primary data from a real project. DMAIC technique was used in this study to improve the service quality by investigating defects, defining the root causes and providing a solution to minimize the defect. The investigation shows that the mode of receiving jobs order and analyzing the jobs requirements influence the NODJ.

But, incremental challenges such as rising customer's expectation, widening customer base of existing ones, fluctuating demand, taxation, lack of infrastructure and intense competition are pulling the sector back. Lean manufacturing could be an answer to these challenges. The concept of lean manufacturing was developed for maximizing the resource utilization through minimization of waste, later on lean was formulated in response to the fluctuating and competitive business environment. Therefore value adding process is necessary to achieve this perfection; hence implementing a lean manufacturing system is becoming a core competency for any type of organizations to sustain in the market. This paper highlights the implementation of Lean as a methodology with series of tools for continuous improvement in quality and productivity in the electronic industries. The main idea is to illustrate the electronics industries that lean implementation can increase productivity by reducing errors and quality improvement. Main optimization parameters for production line were chosen and analyzed with regard to the specifics of electronics production. One of the electronics suppliers named MASTROLEE Engineering and management consultants, Coimbatore was taken for observation and Lean implementation was considered on the engineering and management lines. Paper sums up that after implementing Lean the productivity and quality level is improved by 23% when compared to the existing system.

Machine failures during production period may impose thousands to millions of dollars to a manufa... more Machine failures during production period may impose thousands to millions of dollars to a manufacturing system. In this paper, the impact of machine failures on production lines in a closed-loop supply chain systems is examined. For this purpose, a new method is proposed for scheduling manufacturing workshops in a supply chain systems. The aim is to determine the best production plans in a manufacturing system by considering alternative preventive maintenance programs while machine failures can affect system performance. To solve the model, a hybrid Ant Colony and Simulated Annealing algorithms is developed and the results are compared with branch and bound method. Our findings show that the condition of emerging machine failure affects machines' capacity which yields to lost sale. The impacts of using appropriate preventive maintenance on reducing lost sale is also examined. The results indicate that the proposed method can significantly reduce the level of sale variation in supply chain systems.
