This paper introduces a manufacturing assembly line of starter production as a case study and the basic application of the WITNESS software. Adequate modeling but inadequate software experimentation may lead to poor decisions and can be detrimental, particularly when financial investment is involved. The objective of the study is to escalate the productivity and efficiency of the line by using precise simulation. This paper has been divided into three parts. At first, by analyzing the results of the model, the bottlenecks of the production system and the causes of the problems were identified. Second, the results of the model were identified and validated. Finally, some modifications in the model structure to improve the assembly line were set, so it would minimize the inventory of products and improve the total output.

Research paper thumbnail of Sustainable supplier selection: A multi-criteria intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS method

Journal of Manufacturing Systems, 2019

A sustainable supplier selection is the first step towards this trend. It is also a challenging problem since multi-criteria group decision-making is engaged with numerous conflicting requirements in which decision makers' knowledge is commonly imprecise and vague. This research presents an intuitionistic fuzzy TOPSIS method to select the right sustainable supplier that concerns nine criteria and thirty sub-criteria for an automotive spare parts manufacturer. The proposed approach provides an accurate sustainable ranking of suppliers and a reliable solution for sustainable sourcing decisions that is validated through a real-world case study. This paper ends with research and theoretical findings, managerial insights and directions for future research.

Achieving environmental and sustainable performance within an organisation’s supply chain and man... more Achieving environmental and sustainable performance within an organisation’s supply chain and manufacturing operations will be feasible if upstream supply partners have the same commitments in performing their operations in a sustainable manner. Given the debate above, we propose a comprehensive framework to address the sustainable supplier selection and order allocation (SSS&OA) problem. The framework developed is practical, that starts by using an audition check-list specific for each sustainability dimension (environmental, economic and social), from which the weighted values of its comprised criteria are obtained. The weighted scores of the selected sustainable suppliers are utilised by a proposed bi-objective order allocation model in order to make sourcing decisions. The strength of the proposed framework is its practical applicability to provide a solution for SSS&OA problems which is validated through a real-world application. Finally, research findings, theoretical and mana...

With the global awareness of sustainability issues, sustainable development is being increasingly recognized by governments and industries. In addressing these issues, organizations worldwide have taken initiatives in adopting sustainability practices in their supply chain transferring it to sustainable supply chain management. In order to establish a responsible sustainable supply chain management, an effective way would be to make sure that the potential suppliers for procuring required components are precisely assessed and evaluated based on sustainable criteria. ...

Although numerous criteria are being used for the selection of suitable supplier, selection of the critical factors in conformance to the specification of the automotive industries is less investigated. In order to fill this gap, this research was carried out to systematically propose a framework comprising of the most critical factors for the aim of supplier selection. A literature survey was conducted and measures for assessing the suppliers were extracted. Nominated Group Technique (NGT) was deployed to extract the most critical performance measures from the initial list. Seven measures were found to be proper for the supplier selection process. A Fuzzy Analytical Network Process (FANP) was then proposed to weight the extracted measures and determine their importance level. The model was then implemented to assist an automotive company for the aim of its supplier selection.

Therefore, this research attempted to provide an integrated step by step procedure to consider both classical and green key performance indicators within the supplier selection framework. A literature survey was conducted and measures for assessing the green suppliers were extracted. Nominal Group Technique (NGT) is deployed to extract the most critical performance measures. Ten performance measures were selected as a substitute for green supplier selection. A Fuzzy Analytical Network Process (FANP) was then deployed to weight the extracted measures and determine their importance level.
