The observer is designed in continuous time, then discretized using three different discretization methods. Closed-loop analysis shows that the sampled-data controller recovers the performance of the continuous time controller as the sampling frequency and observer gain become sufficiently large. The theory is illustrated by experimental results.

Since the last decade, different ANNs identification and filtering techniques have been applied in power systems and adaptive linear neuron networks (ADALINE) are actually widely used. More recently artificial neural networks have been introduced as a complement or an alternative to traditional control algorithms. The use of neural networks in control applications including process control, robotics, industrial manufacturing and aerospace applications, among others has recently experienced rapid growth. This paper proposes a new control method for shunt active power filter, which is based on ANN. An adaptive linear neuron (ADALINE) will be presented to estimate the reference compensation currents. The load voltage can be controlled using one switching element (MOSFET) and three limb magnetic circuit. The proposed regulator depend on the PWM technique and control the magnetic flux distribution in the magnetic circuit sections. The suggested regulator gives smooth variation of the load voltage and nearly sinusoidal current at the supply terminals with minimum harmonics. The power factor at the supply terminals is nearly unity over the control range of the load voltage. Equivalent circuit of the regulator is proposed. The computed results are compared with those obtained experimentally using a test model, where good agreement is achieved.

In this paper, we study discrete-time implementation of high-gain observers and their use as numerical differentiators. We show that discretization using the bilinear transformation method gives results better than other discretization methods. We also show that many of the available numerical differentiators are special cases of the bilinear discrete-time equivalents of full-order or reduced-order high-gain observers
