Droopy nasal tip is a common nasal deformity in which the nasal tip is caudally rotated. The anatomical and pathological basis of droopy nasal tip can be divided into two main categories, extrinsic and intrinsic factors. The aim of our study is to discuss and analyze the different causes of droopy nasal tip and to put the appropriate plan to correct such deformity. Patients and Methods: During the study period, 50 patients of droopy nasal tip were managed. Meticulous pre and intraoperative assessment of the anatomical and pathological causes of nasal tip drooping was done and according to these causes we decided the proper technique for correction of such deformity. Results: Postoperative assessment depended on evaluation of the changes in nasal tip rotation and projection which was done by measurement and comparison of the nasolabial angle and Goode ratio (pre-operative and 1 year post-operative). We found significant postoperative improvement of tip rotation and projection coming to an agreement with the patient satisfaction about the final esthetic outcomes. Conclusion: There is no single technique or procedure through which we can modify or improve nasal tip rotation and projection. So for proper management of this deformity the surgeon must understand the nasal tip support mechanisms with adequate analysis of the underlying causes of such deformity.

The proposed organic materials as an active material are PCPDTBT(Poly[2,1,3-benzothiadiazole-4,7-diyl[4,4-bis(2ethyl-hexyl)-4H-cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4 b']dithiophene2,6diyl]]), P3HT (Poly(3-hexylthiophene 2,5-diyl)) and PC61BM ([6,6]-Phenyl-C61-butyric acid methyl ester) because of their non-linear optical properties, easy fabrication techniques and low cost. Transparent Conducting Oxides (TCOs) are used in photovoltaics and optical devices for its low electrical resistance. In addition, TCOs do not have many losses for propagated light. The metric for the comparative study between materials is the insertion losses for a 500 nm wavelength source along with these materials. The material that has better performance should have a low insertion loss. In this paper, a study was conducted on the behavior of acceptors concentration, Shockley-Read-Hall (SRH) recombination, I-V, and P-V characteristics on a 1D Si P-N junction. The numerical solutions for insertion losses and 1D Si P-N junction are carried out by LUMERICAL and COMSOL software, respectively. At a depth of 100 nm, PC61BM has a better performance over PCPDTBT and P3HT with Insertion losses (IL) of 3.07 dB and 2.76 dB for TE and TM mode, respectively. For TCOs materials. The behavior of insertion losses on Indium Tin Oxide (ITO), Gallium doped Zinc Oxide (GZO), and Aluminum doped Zinc Oxide (AZO) is traced. At a depth of 100 nm, the insertion losses are minimized by AZO and ITO with a magnitude of 1.91 dB and 1.87 dB for TE mode, respectively, while 1.45 dB for TM mode.

Transaction-Level Modeling (TLM) has been widely used in system-level design in the past few year... more Transaction-Level Modeling (TLM) has been widely used in system-level design in the past few years. Simulation speed of Virtual Platforms (VPs) depends mainly on the transactions which are initiated by the Programmer’s View (PV) models of the VP devices. PV models are required to run at highest simulation speed. Data bus width as a hardware (HW) parameter should not reduce simulation speed of the modeled transactions. Furthermore, HW-related parameters should only be accounted for when considering timing of the models. A fast SystemC-TLM model is developed for the widely used ARM PrimeCell PL080 DMAC IP. The performance of the proposed model is validated against a developed RTL model for the same device. The effect of the transactions granularity on simulation speed is determined. Different programmed transfers are simulated and compared with open-source Quick Emulator (QEMU)-based models. The developed model is compared with the developed RTL, the open-source QEMU model, and the ex...

We report on the treatment outcome of our large single-center experience of patients with IHHE over a 9-year period. Materials and Methods: A retrospective analysis of all IHHE patients treated at the Children Cancer Hospital Egypt from April 2008 through April 2017. Results: In total, 28 patients (18 females, 10 males) were diagnosed with IHHE with a median age at diagnosis of 3 months. The lesions were multifocal (n = 12), focal (n = 10), and diffuse (n = 6). Six (21.4%) patients initially had low T3 and T4. Eleven patients did not receive any treatment, whereas 1 patient underwent resectional surgery. Sixteen patients received drug treatment, 9 of whom responded well to first-line propranolol/prednisolone, whereas 7 patients needed salvage treatment. Twenty-five patients are alive, whereas 3 patients have died. Conclusions: Overall, patients with IHHE do well, a significant percentage of whom do not require drug therapy, particularly for those with small focal lesions. In patients with multifocal/diffuse disease, there is a high incidence of low T3 and T4 and while some of these patients did well without additional therapy, those with rapidly progressive lesions during treatment may do poorly.

Research paper thumbnail of Modeling and analysis of stretching strain in clamped-clamped beams for energy harvesting

2016 IEEE 59th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2016

In this paper, the utilization of stretching strain that exists in clamped-clamped beam structure... more In this paper, the utilization of stretching strain that exists in clamped-clamped beam structures is investigated as a main source for energy harvesting from vibrations using a piezoelectric material. This technique eliminates the need for a substrate material, and reduces the electrodes configuration complexity, thus simplifies the fabrication process. This structure exhibits nonlinear dynamics under certain conditions, which is modeled as a single degree of freedom (SDoF) electromechanical system. The proposed model accuracy is then verified using finite element modeling (FEM). The results show a highly nonlinear system with a “Duffing” frequency response that can be used to design an ultra-wide bandwidth energy harvesting system suitable for practical applications. Using this technique a design of 9.9mm3 energy harvester is proposed using polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) that can generate up to 4μW from vibrations of 0.5g at 70Hz.

Research paper thumbnail of Structure optimization for efficient AlN piezoelectric energy harvesters

2015 IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits, and Systems (ICECS), 2015

Lead Zirconate Titnate, or PZT, has always been favored over Aluminum Nitride, AlN, in Energy Har... more Lead Zirconate Titnate, or PZT, has always been favored over Aluminum Nitride, AlN, in Energy Harvesting applications due to its superior coupling coefficient, d31. However, the use of PZT in some applications, such as medical implants, is not possible due to its toxic nature as it contains Lead. In this paper, a comparison between the performances of PZT and AlN harvesters is held by utilizing the same uniform cantilever structure. The results of this comparison show that PZT has only 4 times the output power of AlN, and 33% lower resonance frequency. To further increase the output power of the AlN harvester and drive its resonance frequency down to perform PZT-like, a modification to the beam structure is proposed. The modification is to taper the cross-section of the beam linearly. The new structure has the same exact area as the uniform cantilever beam. The FEM simulation results show that the output power of the AlN harvester with the modified structure is nearly the same as the uniform PZT structure, around 1.3 μW for an input acceleration of 0.5g and the resonance frequency is even 35% lower. The gap in performance between PZT and AlN is nearly eliminated using the proposed structure without requiring extra area.

Traditional methods of single-cells whole genome amplification (SCs-WGA) and accurate analysis have been challenging to date. Our purpose was to assess the feasibility of using a few fetal cells to determine fetal sex and major chromosomal abnormalities by quantitative fluorescent polymerase chain reaction (QF-PCR). Cultured cells from 26 amniotic fluid samples were used for standard DNA extraction and recovery of 5 fetal cells by laser-capture microdissection. SCs-WGA was performed using the DNA from the microdissected cells. PCR amplification of short tandem repeats specific for chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X and Y was performed on extracted and amplified DNA. Allele dosage and sexing were quantitatively analyzed following separation by capillary electrophoresis. Microsatellite QF-PCR analysis showed high concordance in chromosomal copy ...

The absorption per unit volume of the new structure is 80.4 µm−3 while the blank structure is 75.07 µm−3. The net absorption magnitude for the required structure is 32.09. The LiF is considered a suitable material for the vertical cylinders in the proposed structure. At a depth of 95 nm and operating wavelength 500 nm, for TE mode, LiF has the highest insertion losses with 0.7 dB. However, ITO and ZnO possess 0.35 dB and 0.49 dB, respectively. For TM mode, LiF has the lowest insertion losses at the same depth with 0.7 dB, while ZnO possesses 0.49 ...

Hence, this study was aimed to evaluate the effect of intracanal cryotherapy on postendodontic pain and interleukin-6 (IL-6) expression in teeth with symptomatic apical periodontitis. Materials and Methods: Forty-eight single-rooted teeth in patients with symptomatic apical periodontitis were randomly divided into four groups based on the irrigation protocol. Group I (control): 5% sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) at room temperature (RT) was used during instrumentation and final rinse. Group II: 5% cold NaOCl (2°C–5°C) was used during the root canal procedure. Group III: 5% NaOCl at RT during instrumentation, while the final rinse was 20 mL of 5% cold NaOCl (2°C–5°C). Group IV: 5% NaOCl at RT during instrumentation followed by 20 mL of cold saline (2°C–5°C). Postoperative pain score was recorded using a modified visual analog scale at 12, 24, 48, and 72 h and after 1 week. Paper point...

Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, 2019

Research paper thumbnail of Outcome of Children Treated for Infantile Hepatic Hemangioendothelioma
