Study Design: Experimental study. Place and Duration of Study: School of Chemical and Material Engineering (SCME), NUST Islamabad from Feb to May 2013. Materials and Methods: Ten recently extracted pre molars between the 12-22years age group were randomly assigned into two groups. Group one was a non-bleached control group with sound enamel. Group two was bleachedwith Everbrite In office tooth whitening system after specimen preparation, surface morphology was observed under SEM (scanned electron microscope) and AFM (Atomic force microscope). Results: Thedetrimental effects of hydrogen per-oxide on enamel were evident in bleached specimens under SEM, and AFM analysis. Conclusion: There were significant surface alterations found in the bleached specimens as compared to control group. However salivary buffering potentials could...

However, there are significant limitations in the currently available membranes and overall outcomes may be limited. A degradable composite material was investigated as a potential GTR membrane material. Polylactic acid (PLA) and nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) composite was analysed as a potential GTR membrane material. Its bioactive potential and suitability as carrier system for growth factors were assessed. The effect of nHA concentrations and the addition of platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) on osteoblast proliferation and differentiation was investigated. The bioactivity was dependent on the nHA concentration in the films, with more apatite deposited on films containing higher nHA content. Osteoblasts proliferated well on samples containing low nHA content and differentiated on films with higher nHA content. The composite films were able to deliver PDGF and cell proliferation increased on samples that were pre-absorbed with the growth factor. nHA-PLA composite films are able to deliver active PDGF. In addition the bioactivity and cell differentiation was higher on films containing more nHA. The use of a nHA-PLA composite material containing a high concentration of nHA may be a useful material for GTR membrane as it will not only act as a barrier, but may also be able to enhance bone regeneration by delivery of biologically active molecules.

It is used for a rapid assessment of a patient’s respiratory function to determine onset of hypoxemia (oxygen starvation) or COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). The sensing device is worn in the finger-tip which makes it the one with least discomfort among the devices for measuring vital parameters. In many critical situations, it is the ideal candidate for continuous monitoring using a wearable system for alert generation. We have developed the prototype of such a device which can be connected to any android based mobile phone. It consists of a hardware subsystem with a very small footprint for continuous acquisition of SpO2 signal for transfer to the mobile phone of the user. A part of the mobile application runs in the background to continuously acquire this signal, convert it into calibrated values of SpO2 and pulse rate and store them in the local DBMS. In case the connection to a Hospital...

The effort resulted in a revised curriculum. This paper presents the different decisions we made with regard to the curriculum orientation, knowledge units coverage, transition management, and monitoring and assessment. The paper also sheds some light on challenges faced. Tables provided in the paper show that the curriculum successfully implements CC2001 recommendations while satisfying the CAC 04-05.
