A total of 30 participants having primary dysmenorrhea completed the study. Data, including demographics (age, body-mass index), menstrual cycle (age at menarche, menstrual cycle duration, time since menarche, bleeding duration), and menstrual pain characteristics (intensity and duration of pain, type and amount of analgesics), were recorded. Effect of dysmenorrhea on participants' concentration in lessons and in sports and social activities was assessed by using the visual analog scale. Participants rated their menstruation-related symptom intensity through the Likert-type scale. FR was applied to 15 participants for 3 days a week and CTM was performed on 15 participants for 5 days a week. Treatments were performed during one cycle, which started at the third or fourth day of menstruation and contin...

Also iritis and uveitis can be serious complications of AS that can damage the eye and impair vision. The exact pathogenesis of AS remains poorly understood but genetic factors play a key role in its development. Human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) is the major genetic susceptibility marker in AS. To our knowledge, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) gene I/D polymorphisms have not yet been investigated in AS patients in Turkish population. This study was conducted in Turkish patients with AS to determine the frequency of I/D polymorphism genotypes of angiotensin converting enzyme gene. Genomic DNA obtained from 262 persons (122 patients with ankylosing spondylitis and 140 healthy controls) was used in the study. ACE I/D polymorphism genotypes were determined by using polymerase chain reaction with specific primers. There was statistically sig...

A total of 137 patients were recruited for the study, including 33 acut back pain (32 lumbar disk herniation, 1 lumbar spondilosis) (16 men, 17 women), 35 with chronic back pain (33 lumbar disk herniation, 1 lumbar spondilosis, 1 sacralisation) (16 men, 19 women), 34 with ankylosing spondylitis (21 men, 13 women) (AS) and 35 without any back pain (15 men, 20 women). The visual analogue scale (VAS) was used to evaluate pain levels and algometry was used to evaluate the pain threshold in all cases. In addition, serum malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were assessed in all patients. The mean ages for groups 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 40.3±10.3, 39.9±9.7, 40.6±10.4, and 38.5±8.1 years, respectively. Arthritis disorders are associated with mutations of the Mediterranean fever (MEFV) gene. This gene has already been identified as being responsible for familial Mediterranean fever. The aim of this study was to explore the frequency and clinical significance of MEFV gene mutations in a cohort of Turkish patients with RA. METHODS: The study included 101 patients with RA and 110 healthy controls. Genomic DNA was isolated and genotyped using polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism for the 5 MEFV gene mutations (M694V, M680I, V726A, E148Q, and P369S). RESULTS: Carrier rates of MEFV gene mutations were 31 (30.7%) of 101 and 26 (23.6%) of 110 in the RA and healthy control groups, respectively (P > 0.05; odds ratio, 1.4; 95% CI, 0.77-2.65). Results The most common abnormalities were nodules, peribronchial thickening, pleural thickening and bronchiectasis. Abnormalities occurred in 96.87% of patients in the early AS group and 77.8% of patients in the late AS group. Patients with early AS included asymptomatic individuals with normal PFT results and abnormal MDCT findings. Conclusions The use of MDCT in A...

Genomic DNA obtained from 256 individuals (110 patients with rheumatoid arthritis and 146 healthy controls) was used in the study. ACE gene I/D polymorphism genotypes were determined using polymerase chain reaction using I and D allele-specific primers. There was a statistically significant difference between the groups with respect to genotype distribution (p=0.001). A significant difference was found in frequencies of ACE I/D alleles between patients and controls, with RA patients having a higher representation of D and lower representation of I alleles compared to controls (p<0.001). As a result of our study, angiotensin converting enzyme gene I/D polymorphism DD genotype could be a genetic marker in rheumatoid arthritis in the Turkish study population.
