This classroom action research aims to enhance the quality of learning and participation of stude... more This classroom action research aims to enhance the quality of learning and participation of students which is still low in the process of mathematics learning in class VIII A SMP Negeri 1 Kepahiang. Solution the low the participation of students in class VIII A SMP Negeri 1 Kepahiang is the implementation of methods peer tutors. After application of the method peer tutor the participation of student class VIII A in the learning process of mathematics increases. This activity is conducted in 3 cycles to 37 students. The technique of collecting data through observation by teachers and collaborators, and data analysis conducted by technical descriptions percentage. The participation rate of students represented by the categories of high, medium, or low. While the success of the peer tutor stated successful, less successful, or unsuccessful. Based on the activities that have been conducted can be concluded the following: (1) the active involvement of students in higher learning, as it reaches the defined criteria, ie 100% of the students are actively involved, (2) high-frequency student asked, because the criteria set 76 %, 75% expected outcomes, (3) students are able to apply high opinion, as it reaches the specified criteria of 75%, (4) the students were able to answer the question of high, because it exceeds the criteria set is 81.5%, while the criteria 80 %, and (5) high-performance group, to complete the task on time. Thus the use of peer tutoring method successfully increased student participation in learning mathematics in class VIII A SMP Negeri 1 Kepahiang.
