Research paper thumbnail of Smart unified interface for people with disabilities at the work place

2015 11th International Conference on Innovations in Information Technology (IIT), 2015

Advancements in human computer interaction (HCI), and information and communication technology (I... more Advancements in human computer interaction (HCI), and information and communication technology (ICT) resulted in developing of various assistive technologies especially for People with Disabilities (PWD). There are many assistive technologies and applications available these days. However, most of the available solutions focus on a particular type of impairment, and very few of these solutions focused on work place environment. Therefore, in this research a comprehensive smart unified solution for people with disabilities at work place is developed. The developed solution provides multiple input and output methods, so that various kinds of impaired persons can be assisted with a single solution. The system offers essential features for getting help information from the environment. It helps impaired people to communicate with others smartly, with the help of flexible interface that is adaptable to meet their requirements. This solution supports wide-spectra of PWD groups with various combinations of disabilities. Users will have the ability to manage their system interface using multi-model ways of interactions and commanding through use of speech recognition engine, text-to-speech, Mic, and mouse/keyboard.

The objectives are to understand the technologies used for addressing the needs of PWD by identifying relevant criteria for the assessment, explore the implications of these technologies in their lives and identify the gaps among certain technologies in assisting PWD. In this article, we reviewed around 40 research scientific papers in relation to the technologies used to assist PWD in their daily activities. A novel quantitative assessment methodology based on Multi-weighted Scoring Model (MWSM) has been developed. It is based on the judgement of clinical experts according to thirteen well-defined criteria. The proposed method is useful because it assesses the scientific studies related to PWD qualitatively according to efficient research coverage, as well as quantitatively in order to have good comparative judgment. ...

The fabricated detectors use boron filled deep holes with aspect ratio of over 12 and showed a very low leakage current density of $7 Â 10 À7 A/cm 2 at À1 V for device sizes varying from 2 Â 2 to 5 Â 5 mm 2. A thermal neutron detection efficiency of 4.5% 6 0.5% with discrimination setting of 500 keV and gamma to neutron sensitivity of (1.1 6 0.1) Â 10 À5 for single layer was measured without external bias for these devices. Monte-Carlo simulation predicts a maximum efficiency of 45% for such devices filled with 95% enriched 10 boron. V
