This study examines the analysis of message content and the frequency of appearance of message co... more This study examines the analysis of message content and the frequency of appearance of message content contained in the July 2018 edition of the Kick Andy program broadcast by the private television station Metro TV. In the discussion, several problem formulations were compiled, namely: What was the dominant message in the July 2018 edition of the Kick Andy Talkshow program on Metro TV? What are the factors that support the application of message orientation in the July 2018 edition of the Kick Andy Talkshow program on Metro TV? The results showed that the appearance of the message content with the most dominant frequency appeared through the function of the message content containing informative messages, namely as many as thirty-four messages (40.47%). Then in the second-order, the function of the message content contains motivational messages as many as thirty-three messages (39.28%). In the last sequence, namely the message content function containing socialization messages as many as seventeen messages (20.23%). The factors that support the application of message orientation in the July 2018 edition of the Kick Andy Talkshow program on Metro TV, namely, using communicative language, discussing material relevant to contemporary reality, presented with interesting and relevant back sounds and images and advertisements displayed after the material is finished.

This article aims to describe the process and results of community service activities that seek t... more This article aims to describe the process and results of community service activities that seek to improve the knowledge and skills of IAIQ (Institute of Islamic Religion and Quran) al-Ittifaqiah Indralaya students in processing statistical data with R software. The service activity was carried out for two days. The first day adopted the tutorial lecture method, which included discussion, questions, and answers. While the second day focused on a data processing practicum with R, The results of the pre-test showed that the average knowledge of the target group on statistical data processing with R was only 10.41 points. After the training, the average score of the participants increased to 21.85 points. This service activity was statistically proven to increase the knowledge and skills of the participants; t (40) = 15.2719, p 0.001. At present, especially in Ogan Ilir District, the COVID-19 pandemic conditions had triggered a fo... more At present, especially in Ogan Ilir District, the COVID-19 pandemic conditions had triggered a food war between candidates in the 2020 Ogan Ilir Regional Election (pilkada). Although social media, particularly Facebook, facilitates voter participation in various political issues in the regional elections, voters had the potential to became political victims because they consumed fake news, slander, and hate speech. One of the layers of the population that was vulnerable to becoming victims was youth voters (17-23 years old). As youth voters will continue the political leadership relay in Ogan Ilir District, there should be a systematic effort to increase their thinking and political awareness. Even though every day they was presented with patronage practices and emotional political relations, youth voters should be given the opportunity to understand and elaborate election contestation from a different perspective. Hingga kini, penetrasi teknologi informasi dan komunikasi di Indonesia masih dihadapkan pada pers... more Hingga kini, penetrasi teknologi informasi dan komunikasi di Indonesia masih dihadapkan pada persoalan kesenjangan digital. Upaya menjelaskan fenomena kesenjangan digital ini mendesak untuk dijawab karena pemerintah begitu ekspansif memperkenalkan internet kepada masyarakat. Penelitian ini bertujuan menjelaskan karakteristik kesenjangan digital di Kota Lubuklinggau, Kabupaten Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU), dan Kota Palembang. Riset dilakukan dengan pendekatan kuantitatif-deskriptif dan menggunakan framework “ have ” dan “ have not ”. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya kesenjangan digital antarkota dalam Provinsi Sumatera Selatan. Kesenjangan ini berbentuk perbedaan kepemilikan, akses, dan penggunaan. Kesenjangan digital tidak hanya persoalan akses, tetapi juga persoalan kemampuan, penggunaan, dan ketidakadilan sosial. Kepemilikan, ketersediaan akses, dan penggunaan di daerah urban cenderung lebih tinggi dibandingkan daerah rural. Kata kunci: kesenjangan digital, kepemilikan perangkat, akses, penggunaan .

This article designed to examine patronage practice in the 2014 general election in Ogan Ilir dis... more This article designed to examine patronage practice in the 2014 general election in Ogan Ilir district, South Sumatera Province, Indonesia, before and after election in one electoral area (Ogan Ilir 1). We apply Nine Step to Victory (Alamsyah, 2015) framework to achieve this goal. Our key informants are some legislative candidates and their brokerage or winning team at various level. Primary data gathered through depth interview and secondary data collected from the government institution. This data will be analyzed using interactive model (Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, 1994). Drawing on the qualitative approach, we find that, before election day, all candidates in this area practicing vote buying and patronage to get political support from the voters. A form of patronage dominated by club goods, and cash transfer (transport allowance, communication and consumption cost, and vote buying).
