For analyzing and comparing various routing algorithms, Software Defined Networking local re-routing protocol is used that how it works perfectly in order to reduce congestion and load in cloud data centers as compare to other routing algorithms like shortest path, ECMP, multi path routing algorithms, STP and OSPF. In SDN, the need of security is on every layer. Security of SDN is needed to be constructed into its architecture, and also it should be supply as service in order to do protection of privacy, availability and integrity in each and every connected information and resources for solving security problems in SDN. In Pakistan due to high cost and power consumption problems, organizations are not adopting SDN, so in order to solve these problems of security, high cost and power consumption Network Function Virtualization (NFV) may play a vital role.

The biggest advantage of SDN is a control plane i.e. centralized logically in order to grant visibility in the network. Applications of SDN basically rely on that control plane. Our approach in this paper is to provide a basic idea that how the SDN controller works with its components in a good and bad manner. This paper points out the Spanning Tree Protocol functionality that how it works and what are its advantages and disadvantages, STP is used as a POX SDN controller component. We will perform the switching techniques to prevent loops in a network and analyze the threat involved in Spanning Tree Protocol. Thus, Spanning Tree Protocol will be our focus in a centralized POX SDN controller, as mentioned earlier that STP is used as a POX SDN controller component. So we will use POX SDN controller to analyze the performance of spanning tree protocol, as our main focus in this paper is the working of STP with SDN because the implementation of STP with SDN is fiercely simpler as compared to its counterparts that are distributed, i.e. whenever you change the topology, it starts and perform a simple computation of spanning tree from a topology by using an algorithm named as Prim’s. After this it starts installing rules on all the switches and performs forwarding in the entire tree.
