The aim of this poster presentation is to serve us as a reminder about the possible staining of the composite resins immersed into various drinks, food colorants and dental rinse products. Methods and materials: For this type of research we used a number of scientific articles from the database of PubMed which dated from the year of 2009 until present time. We used only articles that had in vitro researches on plain composite resin based restorative materials which are most used in dental practices around the world. Results: All the articles showed a small to a significant discoloration of the composite resins no matter of the chemical compound of the resin matrix, or the finishing technique. For any discoloration to occur there are many intrinsic and extrin...

But, very often, during their everyday use, people are facing teeth disorders which open doors for thinking and possible procedures on how to bring them back to their original state thru regeneration or restoration. The purpose of this act is not only to please the aesthetic appearance, but the functional meaning of the tooth as well. Analysis of home and foreign professional literature of this field gives us to know that the reason for tooth restoration manifests in the shape of dental carries, trauma, tooth wear and genetic defects. A substantial meaning for the patients is the change of old filling due the discoloration that occurs on the composite restorations and the teeth, an aesthetic correction is needed in the shape of direct restoration. During recent years an upward trend is noticed in the use of indirect restoration technics realized with ...

Method: Thirty microhybrid composite resin (Gradia Direct) discs were made (15 mm in diameter and 2mm thick) and randomly divided into five groups. The groups were immersed in colorants asred wine, coca-cola, filter coffee, aronia tea and distilled water as control group. Spectrophotometer X-RITE RM 200 was used to follow the changes in color with three measurements, first one at the beginning (baseline), second at the middle, third at the end of the research. Each group was immersed in its colorant twice a day for the duration of the study. The received data was analyzedaccording the CIE L*a*b* color system. Result:Three out of four colorants have surpassed the clinically acceptable threshold of discoloration which is Δ2.7. Significant discoloration was observed with the warm drinks compared with the ones u...

After losing a tooth in the anterior region the patients immediately seek a solution for this newly occurred problem. Should the indications be right, a resin bonded bridge enforced with glass fibre tape can be proposed as an aesthetic treatment option . Case Description. A patient came to our clinic for a treatment after losing a left central lower incisor. After examining the patient, several options like prosthetic and surgical with prosthetic were proposed, but she declined them all. At last a resin bonded bridge was chosen as an option due to the aesthetic that it provides and the minimally invasive technique. A full mouth ultrasonic scaling was conducted prior to the treatment for optimal conditions. The adjacent teeth were etched with a 37 % phosphoric acid for 60 seconds. After the etching the teeth were rinsed off from the acid and kept dry for the entire treatment. On the etched surface a 7-th generation bond was applied and polymerized. A glass fiber tape wa...

Research paper thumbnail of Discoloration of Nano Composite Resin by Everyday Drinks: In Vitro Study

The everyday consumption of various drinks has immediate affect on the composite resin materials ... more The everyday consumption of various drinks has immediate affect on the composite resin materials extrinsic look. This changes mainly manifest as a change in the aesthetic appearance of human teeth which is why thru scientific researches we need to eliminate the possibility of such discolorations. For this research were made 30 discs of nano composite resin material Artiste, 2 mm thick and 15 mm in diameter. As colorants were used drinks like red wine, coca cola, filter coffee, aronia tea and distilled water as control group. Three color measurements were made by spectrophotometer X-RITE RM 200 which results will be used as basic, middle and final discoloration change on the composite discs. The results were evaluated thru the CIE L*a*b* system for colorimetric analysis which specified the warm colorants lead to rather bigger discolorations than the ones used on room temperature. The biggest discoloration was noticed in tea (ΔE*=31,83) followed by coffee (ΔE*=23,23) and wine (ΔE*=19,...
