We report the case of a 78-year-old female patient that was admitted to hospital by The Emergency Department with the diagnosis of bowel obstruction, confirmed by the clinical and paraclinical investigations. We decided to surgically manage the case for suspicious symptomatic colonic neoplasm. The histological examination of the surgical specimens revealed colonic malakoplakia, characterized by the presence of the aggregated granular histiocytes and Michaelis-Gutmann bodies. Through this paper, we want to raise awareness for Malakoplakia, which remains an extremely rare disease that may affect multiple organs, and because it does not present specific symptoms or clinical manifestations, the final diagnosis remains the histopathological study. Methods: We performed a prospective cohort study, including patients that underwent surgical management by using the Lateral Release and Medial Imbrication approach (LRMI) or Medial Patellofemoral Ligament Reconstruction (MPFL-R). The purpose of this study was the assessment of the quality of life among pediatric population that underwent surgery for patellar dislocation. The quality of life was evaluated before and after surgery using the Pediatric International Knee Documentation Committee form (Pedi-IKDC). The postoperative scar was evaluated using The Stony Brook Scar Evaluation Scale. 108 patients were selected and grouped according to the type of procedure. Results: before surgery, the calculated Pedi-IKDC scores were similar between the two groups of patients. We identified substantial improvement in the postoperative score after surgery and the Med...

To evaluate the development risk of psychiatric symptoms in patients who manifested COVID 19 symptoms during the quarantine period acute phase of the disease and the aggravation of some patients` symptoms after this infectious disease. Methods: We have conducted a study on 28 patients diagnosed with SARS-CoV-2 and who have received psychopathological follow up during the quarantine through telemedicine, patients selected for a period of 3 month. Results: The average age of the patients was of 46,89 years old, with an associated standard deviation of 18,68 years and with a predominance in female gender (60,7%). 85,4% of the subjects developed psychopathologies, depending on th...

The treatment of choice for this pathology was based on the use of the multimodal laser, which contributed to the improvement of the patients' quality of life. Methods: the present study was conducted on a number of 6 male patients, with different levels of severity and with Fizpatrick II and III type skin. For their treatment the following were used: Cutera Xeo vascular NdYag laser, Cutero Xeo LimeLight laser, program A (vascular), Cutera Pearl Fractional laser. Results: We found that methods such as drugs, radiofrequency or dermabrasion didn’t give optimal results. Therefore, after a classification of patients with mild, moderate and severe forms, we have applied the treatment according to these 3 forms of rhinophyma, based on the principle of the “subunit method”. Our treatment has been redu...

Diabetes can cause psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression, acute stress response and adjustment disorders, as well as organic personality disorders and/or affectivity disorders. There is an increase in diabetic patients worldwide and in the same time for the pediatric cases with diabetes. Moreover, there is an association between the development of anxiety and depression symptoms in patients with diabetic comorbidity and the association of these three entities represents an interesting subject in the medical world. The main purpose of this study is to deepen the knowledge about the association of three diseases in children, in order to establish a working algorithm applicable in current clinical practice. We were able to identify the severity of anxie...

When fractures occur at birth, they are associated with an impairment of walking and the quality of life. Although surgical techniques have significantly improved in recent years, functional outcomes and the quality of life for pediatric patients that benefited from surgical management with telescopic rods have been less evaluated. This study aimed to measure functional results and determine the factors that influence the quality of life for the pediatric population diagnosed with Osteogenesis imperfecta and surgically treated using the telescopic rod approach after suffering a fracture or severe deformity. Materials and Methods: We conducted a cohort study that consisted of 15 patients diagnosed with Osteogenesis imperfecta (average age of 11.6 years). All individuals possessed at least one in...

We carried out a retrospective, cross-sectional cohort study, including pediatric patients who presented to the emergency room with a supracondylar humerus fracture following an injury by falling from the same height. In total, 245 patients were selected and grouped according to age. In the 1–3 years group, no statistical significance was found between hand dominance and the side of fracture (p = 0.7315). During preschool years (4–6 years old), the non-dominant hand is more often involved (p = 0.03, odds ratio: 3.5). In the 7–14 years group this trend was maintained and actually increased (p = 0.052, odds ratio: 3.8). We might conclude that children tend to protect their dominant hand by falling on their non-dominant one. The main objective of this study is to highlight a link between ha...

Clostridium difficile infection has increased over the past decades. Surgical patients, especiall... more Clostridium difficile infection has increased over the past decades. Surgical patients, especially those undergoing intestinal surgery, have higher rates of this infection. Patients infected with Clostridium difficile are more likely to have postoperative complications and higher rates of mortality. We will present the results of a retrospective study made in the 2 nd clinic of Surgery at the Clinical Emergency County Hospital "Sf. Ap. Andrei" Galati. This study includes 431 patients with complicated colorectal cancers operated in emergency between 2007 and 2016. All the patients infected with Clostridium difficile received oral Metronidazole. Only one of the infected patients presented a recurrence which was treated with oral vancomycin. The treatment of Clostridium difficile infection has become a global public health challenge. Colorectal surgery is a documented risk factor for Clostridium difficile infection. The prevalence of Clostridium difficile infection has grown in the last years and this increase has been particularly apparent among surgical patients. In a large intestine weakened by cancer, the risk of this infection can increase even more. New strategies to prevent the Clostridium difficile infection are required.

This pathology, defined as Amyand’s hernia, occurs in almost 1% of all inguinal hernia cases (0.19-1.7%). Usually, it is diagnosed intraoperatively, because the preoperative diagnosis is very difficult. We report the case of a 56-year-old man with a voluminous mass in the right inguinal-scrotal region. During the surgical procedure, an Amyand’s hernia was identified and we performed reduction of the hernia, herniorrhaphy and Lichtenstein Tension-Free Repair with polypropylene mesh. The case that we presented was type 1 according to Losanoff and Basson’s classification, but also to Rikki modified classification, with a very controversial management. Clinical evaluation and surgeon’s experience are the base of the surgical treatment. Keywords: vermiform appendix, inguinal hernia, surgical treatment

Although it is usually characterized by progressive sensory loss, some patients may develop chronic pain. Assessment of DSPN is not difficult, but the biggest challenge is making the correct diagnosis and choosing the right treatment. The treatment of DSPN has three primary objectives: glycemic control, pathogenic mechanisms, and pain management. The aim of this brief narrative review is to summarize the current pharmacological treatment of painful DSPN. It also summarizes knowledge on pathogenesis-oriented therapy, which is generally overlooked in many publications and guidelines. Materials and Methods: The present review reports the relevant information available on DSPN treatment. The search was performed on PubMed, Cochrane, Semantic Scholar, Medline, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases, including among others the terms “distal symmetrical ...
