Alexandre Alcantara was born in Pelotas, Brazil, and began both piano and music theory studies privately with Professor Genecy Teixeira. Although this training began late, his love for music led him to advance quickly, and before obtaining his piano degree he had already been awarded in several piano competitions: First Prize in the ‘First Villa-Lobos Piano Competition’, Second Prize in the ‘Third Sebastian Benda Piano Competition’, Honorable Mention in the ‘First Enilda Maurell Feistauer Piano Competition’. Feeling the need to broaden his horizons, and taking an interest in composition, he then entered the ‘Mannes College of Music’ in New York, studying under the guidance of composer David Loeb.

Being granted a scholarship to participate in the summer courses ‘Música en Compostela’, he travels to Spain, and settle his residence in Madrid. In this city he meets the pianist and pedagogue Ofelia Montalván (Cuba-Russia), who will introduce him to the Russian piano school, expanding his technical and aesthetic resources.

In addition to performing in the most important venues in Spain and making recordings for Spanish radio and television, he has also played as soloist in Brazil, Mexico, Portugal, and Italy. In 2011 he began his collaboration with ‘Millennium Vocal Group’, traveling with them annually to South Korea, having since then performed more than 150 concerts throughout the country, many of them broadcast on South Korean television, and playing also in Japan.

Alexandre Alcantara has a Ph.D. from the ‘Universidad Autónoma de Madrid’. He upheld his doctoral thesis about Robert Schumann and writer Jean Paul Richter in 2017, being granted the Cum Laude Mention.
