Particularly in large cities and industrialised areas, air quality is affected by pollution from natural and anthropogenic sources and this has a significant impact on human health. Continuous monitoring of air quality is an important step in investigating the causes and reducing pollution. In this paper, we propose a new autonomous multi-rotor aerial platform that can be used to perform real-time monitoring of air quality in large cities. The air quality monitoring system is able to cover large areas, with high spatial resolution, even above average buildings, while being relatively low cost. We evaluate the proposed system in several locations throughout a metropolitan city, during different seasons and generate fine-grained heat-maps that display the level of pollution of specific areas based on different altitudes.

We submitted runs both for Subtask 1 (Image Concept detection and localisation) and for Subtask 2 (Generation of Textual Descriptions of Images). For the first subtask we created an ontology with relations between concepts and their synonyms, hyponyms and hypernyms and also with relations between concepts and related words. For the second subtask, we created a resource that contains triplets ( concept 1, verb, concept 2), where concepts are from the list of concepts provided by the organizers and verb is a relation between concepts. With this resource we build sentences in which concept 1 is subject, verb is predicate and concept 2 is complement.

Multimodality imaging is the modern approach for diagnostic work-up and clinical management. In this context, we report a typical case of constrictive pericardial disease, first misconstrued as decompensated liver cirrhosis, and later unsuccessfully treated as congestive heart failure, without a clear etiology. By reporting this case, we also aimed to highlight the importance of some complementary diagnostic techniques in refining the preoperative assessment, in order to adequately address a patient to pericardiectomy, the only curative treatment.

A high percentage of critical patients are found to develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (... more A high percentage of critical patients are found to develop acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Several studies have reported high mortality rates in these cases which are most frequently associated with multiple organ dysfunctions syndrome. Lately, many efforts have been made to evaluate and monitor ARDS in critical patients. In this regard, the assessment of genetic polymorphisms responsible for developing ARDS present as a challenge and are considered future biomarkers. Early detection of the specific polymorphic gene responsible for ARDS in critically ill patients can prove to be a useful tool in the future, able to help decrease the mortality rates in these cases. Moreover, identifying the genetic polymorphism in these patients can help in the implementation of a personalized intensive therapy scheme for every type of patient, based on its genotype.

Increased life expectancy is associated with a greater frailty of elderly people and an increased prevalence of chronic and degenerative illnesses such as cardiovascular diseases and osteoporosis. The impact of osteoporotic hip fractures in Italy is very similar to that of acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and there is a need for further epidemiological investigations concerning both the pathologies, as well as for a better understanding of possible mechanisms of their cosegregation. Actually, calcium metabolism is involved both in the development of osteoporosis and in the raise of cardiovascular risk. We have reviewed the most recent publications concerning epidemiological trends of both osteoporosis and acute myocardial infarction (AMI), and also the trials addressing cosegregation of these pathologies. According to the publications examined, in the Italian population (both ≥ 45 and > 65 years...

The IHRG was designed and implemented in our laboratory considering the fact that for any patient it will be more comfortable to make medical exercises in his own home. The proposed IHRG has a great advantage - the possibility to specify some vocal commands, which will help the patient to make a lot of medical exercises.
