In order to optimize the availability of this source, a sustainable exploitation strategy should always be designed. In contrast with oil systems which are practically isolated, geothermal reservoirs are open systems in which the flow of recharge due to the pressure drops is possible. Due to depth of geothermal reservoirs indirect methods based on monitoring data of wells are used to study their evolution. In this work, models widely used for the analysis of production decline data in oil wells have been adapted in order to include the analysis of geothermal wells. From them, important reservoir information needed to design optimal exploitation strategies is obtained. The analysis of production decline in wells is based either on analytical methods or on type curves fitting approaches. With the decline results of wells and considering their economic limit ...

However after exploitation starts the productivity decline also appears in higher or lower influence rank. The decline in productivity along exploitation is a function of the reservoir properties, mass flow rate extraction and of recharge water entrance, among other parameters. In the analyzed field it was found that the unbalance caused by the higher mass extracted in comparison with the entrance mass by recharge, is one of the reasons for productivity decline in wells. It has been observed a thermodynamic evolution of some of the wells they will achieve conditions of dry steam. In this work, a section was analyzed of a producer Mexican geothermal field, with high temperature logged, small recharge water entrance and additionally low permeability. The analyzed data show quickly the decline in productivity and in some cases lacking flow. This...

The mechanical features of these tools are significantly influenced by the mechanical design of the structure, which eventually affects their performance and integrity. This paper describes the design process and the analysis of the structural integrity of a HPHT measuring tool for oil wells in its sensors section. The classical theories of mechanical design and specifications of the ASME boilers and pressure vessels code were used. The study is performed for several operation variables in a numerical model using a commercial code of finite element method to determinate the maximum principal stresses, total displacements and safety factor in the mechanical elements that form the device. The numerical results were compared with the experimental data source from the laboratory tests.Copyright © 2014 by ASME

This alternative method uses production data of at least three measurements avoiding the necessity of long time as is required for a pressure test to achieve the pseudo steady state. Another of the advantages of this technique is that there is no fluid discharge to the environment and no consumptions of human and material resources. Also, it avoids extracting the wells from production systems, maintaining their continuous operation. One of the main results of the proposed methodology is the reservoir characterization during its operative life obtained from analysis of wells. During the process, inflow curves were used as a technical tool for determining maximum mass flow rate, reservoir pressure and enthalpy. The application of the knowledge of these parameters besides the reservoir behavior, allows for establishing the exploitation designs for each analyzed production...

The methodology can be applied for determining damage effect in wells that cannot be retired from continuous exploitation. The skin or damage effect is usually estimated from transient pressure tests which require time. It was found that the damage effect in the wells increases with exploitation time and is related with deterioration of production. Knowledge of damage is needed for taking decisions about operations on the well for enhancement of productivity.

The objective is to isolate the drilling risk during the geothermal projects development. Besides IDB, participates the Clean Technologies Fund (CTF) along with interaction of Mexican Government Institutions: Ministry of Energy (SENER), Nacional Financiera (Mexican development bank NAFIN) and the National Institute of Electricity and Clean Energies (INEEL). This program will be applied in Mexican projects to promote continuity of geothermal exploration in Mexico. Moreover, it includes financing for private investors for field development until construction in permissioned or concession areas is completed. INEEL acts as the technological arm of IDB and has leaded the two main lines of it: Drilling bidding process and Call for field developers. The bidding ...

Each one has a single task whose results allow defining the feasibility of a geothermal project, until achieving the construction and operation stage of the power generation plant. The first stage contains the area recognition, its limitation to the target, and elimination of external factors until defining a geothermal zone with characteristics to be commercially exploited. The main studies and analysis that can be applied during the exploration stage are listed, and the major indicator to continue with the project or suspend is the prefeasibility report. The major risks in the exploration stage are due to studies that are carried out on the surface; at this stage, the costs can be considered low. The main results of the exploration are the selection of sites to drill three or four initial wells. Each well provides a direct overview of the reservoir: depth, production thicknesses, thermodynamic parameters, and production characteristics. The drilling of three to four exploratory wells is recommended, as far as there is certainty of the feasibility of the project, and the development of the field begins with drilling of sufficient wells to feed the plant. In this stage, the cost increases, but the risks decrease.

ANAGEOT is an interactive and user-friendly software that allows quickly and efficient manner, modification, retrieval and visualization of the wide amounts of data involved in the study of reservoirs. ANAGEOT optimizes time and resources, due to high quantity of historical data of most of the wells of various petroleum and geothermal fields which involve information sometimes of very long time periods. The system has the flexibility to work with different fields, considering a database for each one A very important feature of this tool is that the reports, charts and graphs are generated in a way which can be edited at any time. Similarly these can be used as source files for other applications, because they are generated in wide commercial use applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Golden Grapher.
