More than 300 scientists and engineers will participate to its activities. The aim of the ESONET NoE is the lasting integration of European research on deep-sea multidisciplinary observatories. ESONET is particularly sensitive on the effects of noise on marine organisms. Because our knowledge is still quite limited, ESONET is developing a Demonstration Mission, called LIDO, Listening to the Deep-Ocean Environment, a research program that will help establishing a scientific base to allow (1) the real-time automatic identification and classification of nonbiological and biological sounds, (2) the monitoring of marine organisms and population dynamics, (3) the assessment and control of the long term effects of anthrop...

The article sketches out a subset of issues brought up by typical lawsuits on international aviation accidents. That includes questions like where to find an international venue according to Art. 33 Montreal Convention and which substantive law to apply as a complement to the harmonised framework given by the Montreal Convention, according to European Rome I and Rome II Regulations. Finally, the regulative issue of moral damages is raised. The article argues for a new approach, stressing deter-rence and equality rather than corrective justice. * D r. i u r. The Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals... more The Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the adoption of the 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the adoption of the Sendai Framework for disaster risk have been important achievements for the global community. The COP 21, held in Paris in 2015, represents the first major step towards the achievement of the targets set by the Sustainable Development Goals agreed by the international community in September 2015. Such goals may be achieved through the involvement of public and private actors, especially investing in school and culture. Space can play an important role through its infrastructure like Earth observation, navigation and connectivity. The SDGs are also in line with the two goals of the World Bank: ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity. The contribution of the World Bank to the Sustainable Development Goals is related to the data revolution proposed by the international leaders during the High-Level Panel of Eminent Persons on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Even drones can help the reaching of the SDGs by collecting imagery for disaster risk reduction. The activities of private actors in the space sector increased exponentially in the last years thanks to the proliferation of start-ups like Planet, which provides a complete imagery of the Earth. Finally, it would be useful to set up a public-private partnership (PPP) scheme that will help to move to more sustainable business models.

The first point to be addressed is how to best define a clean interface between these systems, in order to ensure full interoperability and integration of data streams in real time. This is a prerequisite for allowing the end users to receive the information in a format which can be directly received and used in the field also by mobile equipment. An example of how international suppliers of space data are working together is given by the ICG of the United Nations in the field of GNSS, and by the GEOSS in the field of Earth Observation. Whether such a coordination mechanisms could be expanded also to other (new) types of platforms worldwide is further discussed in the chapter. We need comprehensive information system...
